As I figured, I didn’t get any much, if any, sleep last night. …
1:30 came around way too quickly this morning. I don’t know if I even actually went to sleep at all during the very short night because I remember looking at the clock all through out the 2 hours I was supposed to be sleeping. I think i was just too anxious to sleep which is exactly what I figured last night. Maybe I shouldn’t have had that Krispy Kreme doughnut for dinner… Maybe I should have actually gone out with the guys last night for dinner… Oh yeah, that reminds me that I should write about yesterday.
Got up a little later than I had wanted to so I didn’t make it out for a bikeride, but did get a bunch of bills paid and got through some of the mail. One of the pieces of mail was a letter from Chevy saying that they wanted to buy back my truck as they needed a bunch of vehicles for some special something or other. I kind of figured this was just a marketing thing to get you to come buy a new vehicle, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt if I just stopped by to see what they had to say on my way to dinner with the guys, so I did that after church and the wedding. Well, as I figured, they didn’t want to pay me what I owed on the truck, so I told them no deal. They wanted to wheel and deal and we were actually working on it where they were going to make up the difference, but I just couldn’t find any trucks on their lot that I really wanted. There was one crew cab 4×4 2500 HD, but it was around $40k and I don’t need that kind of a truck, not to mention that they didn’t have it in any colors that would have been approved of. So it all worked out for the best two hours later when they finally understood me saying no… I don’t want/need a new truck. They got the head manger out there who started talking to me and I explained that there was nothing on his lot that I even was remotely interested in so that was the end of it. I never made it to dinner with the guys, but they all came over to find me at the dealership and then we tried to figure out what to do from there. Seeing as how I had a flight to catch really early the next morning, I told them I was going to call it a night and went home, so that I could get lots of sleep… yeah right! We all know how that one worked out!
I was actually up and going on time this morning and actually got out of the house about 3:30, which is good because I wasn’t planning on leaving until 4. I swung by my favorite bank (Wa Mu), got some cash and was on the road. It looked like there must have been a bad traffic accident on the 15 at Mission because they had a couple of the southbound lanes blocked off and there were tons of flashing lights out there. I tried to pull up cad.chp.ca.gov on my phone, but I figured that I didn’t want to try to cause another accident so I gave up. Everything else has been going good so far. Had to practically strip for security at the airport though… take my shoes off, then my belt… I had four things going through the scanner! Maybe I’ll be smarter on the way back and not wear my steel toes (although I knew this would be a problem and they were making everyone take their shoes off…) and maybe I’ll ditch the belt too, although I don’t know what security is like at SLC. I remember from the past that I could walk through security in Kansas City with just about anything on me and they didn’t seem to care, but this was also pre-9/11.
The flight was actually pretty empty. The entire row in front of me is empty, the two seats next to me are empty. There is even and empty seat in the exit row, but it is the middle seat so I’m fine just where I am. While there isn’t much room on these planes, it actually isn’t bad when you don’t have people around you because you can stash your stuff all over the place. Not to mention it has been kind of nice to get to sit and take care of emails, the marquee and getting caught up in the blog while doing an hour and a half flight versus a 10 hour drive! Now if we could only bring the price down a bit… Actually, I think the expensive part of this flight is the return trip as I think that flight is almost solidly booked. Speaking of booking flights, I guess I need to book that flight to come back to Fallbrook on August 7 & 8 to “meet the family.” (And I’m referring to my family… dad’s side… who I have all met before, but haven’t seen some of for years.) We left the gate early and it looks like we are going to land slightly early in SLC, but only time will tell.
Not sure what all is in the plans for today, but I’m anxious to see. I guess it is just Amanda, Kim and me for most of the day, but there are talks about going water skiing which could be fun. … We’ll have to see what comes of all this…
