Well, it’s been about a week since I’ve been on here, I wonder if I can even remember what all has happened. Last weekend I was kind of out of touch because the web server was down and this weekend wasn’t looking much better when I got home and found that my internet was down!
Friday we finally started to announce who was nominated for homecoming court (the top 15 or whatever you want to call it). I didn’t get the lists back from Deavers until almost the end of 6th though, so it was pretty much just whoever I could find after-school. Sarah was going crazy. I remember her saying something to the effect of “this isn’t supposed to happen.” I’m glad that she was so happy. Some of the other girls I kind of know from cheer or dance, but Sarah is the one that I know the most on there.
I ended up staying for the game Friday night and wasn’t going to take the system up there until Griener called and I decided that I should be a good boy and take the system up there for her. We had fun playing music for the cheerleaders, it was almost like old times, well without the Chumbawamba!
Saturday was the morp dance which went pretty good. I was supposed to DJ and sell tickets to the dance, which I didn’t think would be much of a problem. I figured that we might have 5 or so tickets purchased at the door and that I would just leave my computer running while I went and dealt with the ticket situation. Well, we ended up selling about $700 worth of tickets at the door! Now, the nightmare with the situation was that I was selling them to everyone for $10/ticket and I wasn’t selling them to anyone that had debt. Deavers decided to waive the debt requirement and then he met with Travis and they lowered the ticket price as they thought that $10 was too much for a $3 dance. So we reduced the tickets to $6 and $8. I’m just happy that the word didn’t seem to get out too far so that nobody has come wanting their money back. We could always say that they got in for cheaper because they missed more of the dance or something… Anyways, it was interesting. I’m glad that Chad stopped by and brought the lights and that he hung out with me in Norma’s office for the evening.
Because I wasn’t going to be with my computer, I locked the screen as usual, but unfortunately that meant that they couldn’t control the music very well. Sarah dragged me over there at one time because she thought the music was so bad. We lined up the next hour and then I went back to work in ASB. An hour later I did the same thing until finally for the last hour we closed up shop and then I actually went and played DJ. I actually had fun doing it, but I think that was just because it was mainly old music and not new stuff that I don’t know as well. In any event, I had a good time and I think the about 400 kids had a good time too. It also happened to be Sarah’s birthday and they got her car good with toilet paper and saran wrap. I guess that Mrs. Hellams even gave the kids toilet paper to do it with! How awesome is that? I didn’t get to see it, but we have pictures of it now in ASB because we got the pictures back from the photographers from the dance.
Sunday I didn’t make it at all to church. As I was getting ready to leave, John came over to work on the weather station and I got trapped into dealing with that. I knew I was going to have to leave early so I didn’t worry about it and just showed up to work (GT) earlier than expected. (After I went to Baskin Robbins, of course!) I basically had Ben do the wedding, but I helped him out with the calls on the radio. Tomorrow I’m going to try and put him all on his own and see how things work out. He did pretty good, I’m just worried about his confidence level and how well he will troubleshoot, but I think that he can make it with some more work. I think he did good for his 4th time or something.
After the wedding I went out to Chili’s with Batch, Pryo and Flaote. That was fun, although I think that my food budget just got cut in a quarter or so… We’ll have to see.
Monday it was back to school working on homecoming stuff, dance music and breaking down the walls. Pretty much the same stuff all week long. Tuesday morning I was there bright and early for our first all school assembly in probably 30 years. I got the bright idea to do the breaking down the walls assembly in the stadium and B actually went for it. I think it went fairly well for our first attempt. We had requested 500 chairs and they only brought us 200. We were about 200 seats short I think. We also learned that we couldn’t put chairs on the asphalt in front of the bleachers because it makes it take too long to get in, but just something we’ve now learned for the next time.
After school on Wednesday I was going to go to floats to take pictures and see how things were going, but Chad said he was having a problem with his powerbook. He was getting noise out of his speakers (you can debate over if it was pink or white noise, I’m not going to). We decided that sounded like a good excuse to go to Fashion Valley so off we were. We hit up Cheesecake while his computer was copying files from the old one and then went back to deal with the computer before going back for dessert.
Our webserver went down on Friday afternoon and I couldn’t get in touch with the hosting company at all until I finally signed up for a new account on Monday evening. I found out that Netmondo had been purchased by another company and that they didn’t know about the problem and didn’t have access to the support systems or anything yet because they couldn’t get in touch with the old owner. The new owner finally called me back Tuesday morning and told me the problem was that the datacenter unplugged the machine because of abuse. Someone was sending out spam, so they just unplugged the machine. So finally on Wednesday things started coming back online. I’m still working on getting things setup with another site for when things go bad again or for whenever we decide to give up on Netmondo. I do however have to admit that the price from Netmondo is amazing!
Thursday Chad, ASB and I went down to the Padre’s game. As usual, they lost, but that was expected. They played the Dodgers, so I just said that I was rooting for the Dodgers and didn’t really care about the Padre’s. I was really just there to build the bonds with the kids… who cares about a stupid baseball game. I can’t imagine anyone actually going to one of those games to watch the game. Riding the bus down there had its plusses and minuses. It was nice to not have to drive, but the bus ride down was crazy! The kids started a game where they hung out of the windows and tried to get people to wave at them or honk their horns or whatever… Anyways, it was crazy… I’m sure that Anthony, the bus driver, was about ready to shoot them, but he wasn’t complaining so I just let them have fun…
Today it was back to school and then off to GT for a wedding. I have to go back there again tomorrow morning. We’ll just have to see how that all goes… I’m not sure what to say, so I’m going to just hold off on commenting for now.
I did decide to finally go get my mail today. I got two things from BYUI. One said that they had received my application and were processing it. The other one said that I had been admitted for fall/winter. Now I guess this just means that I have to make a final decision and start saving like crazy! I was getting ready to think it wasn’t going to happen, and I’ve been having fun down here in CA recently, so I wasn’t nearly as happy to get the news as I would have expected me to be. I guess this just means that God wants me there, and I think I should follow that hint. I think in the end it will be good for me to get out of Fallbrook and get done with school. The only thing that I worry about is the finances. I’ve got some debts to take care of each month and I’m worried about making enough out there to stay alive. I guess I’ll have to look at the budget and start looking for a job now along with saving everything I can while I’m here. I’ll probably end up staying out there year round so I probably won’t be coming home to make money, but we’ll just have to see how things go. I can always come home for the summers, but I think that is going to be more of a pain than it would be worth.
Well, I could keep writing for the entire night, but I really need to work on getting to bed I think. Tomorrow I’ve got a wedding, then lunch with Taugher, Norma, Teresa and Pyro at Islands, and then I have to go visit my favorite shake maker at Baskin Robbins! This weekend I also have to get the ask me badges done and the ballot for homecoming court so I’m going to be busy! Happy birthday to Officer Bouse and those with birthday’s coming up… Good night all!
