One day, when I was a freshman in high school,

I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school.

His name was Kyle.

It looked like he was carrying all of his books.

I thought to myself, “Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday?

He must really be a nerd.”

I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him.

They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt.

His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about tenfeet from him.

He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes.

My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, and I sawa tear in his eye.

As I handed him his glasses, I said, “Those guys are jerks.

They really should get lives.

” He looked at me and said, “Hey thanks!”

There was a big smile on his face.

It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.

I helped him pick up his books, and asked him wherehe lived.

As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked himwhy I had never seen him before.

He said he had gone to privateschool before now.

I would have never hung out with a private school kidbefore.

We talked all the way home, and I carried someof his books.

He turned out to be a pretty cool kid.

Iasked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends.

He said yes.

We hung out all weekend and themore I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and myfriends thought the same of him.

Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with thehuge stack of books again.

I stopped him and said,”Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!

” He just laughed and handed me half the books.

Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends.

When we were seniors, we began to think
about college.

Kyle decided onGeorgetown, and I
was going to Duke.

I knew that we would always befriends, that the miles would never be a problem.

Hewas going to be a doctor, and I was going for businesson a football scholarship.

Kyle was valedictorian of our class.

I teased him all thetime about being a nerd.

He had to prepare a speech forgraduation.

I was so glad it wasn’t me having to get up there andspeak.

Graduation day, I saw Kyle.

He looked great.

Hewas one of those guys that really found himself during highschool.

He filled out and actually looked good in glasses.

He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him.

Boy, sometimes I was jealous.

Today was one of those days.

I could see that he wasnervous about his speech.

So, I smacked him on the backand said, “Hey, big guy, you’ll be great!”

He looked at mewith one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled.

“Thanks,” he said.

As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, andbegan.

“Graduation is a time to thank those who helpedyou make it through those tough years.

Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach…but mostlyyour friends…

I am here to tell all of you that being a
friend to someone is the best gift you can give them.

Iam going to tell you a story.”

I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told thestory of the first day we met.

He had planned to killhimself over the weekend.

He talked of how he hadcleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn’t have to doit later and was carrying his stuff home.

He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile.

“Thankfully, I was saved.

My friend saved me fromdoing the unspeakable.”

I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popularboy told us all about his weakest moment.

I saw his Mom and dad looking at me and smiling that samegrateful smile.

Not until that moment did I realize it’s depth.

Never underestimate the power of your actions.

Withone small gesture you can change a person’s life.

Forbetter or for worse.

God puts us all in each other’s lives to impact one anotherin some way.

Look for God in others.

Football is Over

The football season is over now that we’ve lost our last game. We had fun tonight though I think, thanks to Chad, Batch and Floate for coming up and helping out when Ben basically bailed on us. Chad and I played music for cheer and even got creative, went out and got monitors for the girls so that they could actually hear what we were playing. I think they helped out quite a bit, so maybe I’ll have to look at getting ASB to buy some so that we don’t have to steal them from the bob. We also need some new mic stands, so that could be in the order too…

This morning was the school show of FHS drama’s presentation of “The Foreigner.” Once again, I didn’t pay any attention to the show, but I managed to get through a bunch of my emails. I got my main inbox down to 7 messages today… Man was I impressed with myself. I got lots of old messages returned/filed/taken care of and was getting close to done when I ran out of battery power and the show ended.

So the news is apparently out. Travis was hired on as the new AP for the high school, which means that he will be leaving ASB. The search is supposed to be on for a new ASB Director, so we’ll just have to see how all of that goes. It was supposed to go up as an in-house vacancy today, but I’m not sure if it got posted or not. I guess it’s going to be about a month or so before we might get a new director. I guess this means I get to train yet another one and do some more hand holding… How much fun! I guess the bring side is more hours! I’ll probably spend a good portion of the next month in the office doing what I can to help Travis stay on top of two jobs…

After the game tonight, Batch, Chad, Floate, Lauren and I headed off to the bar. We finally convinced Travis to join us about an hour late, but he came. Neither Donna nor Jeremy was working so that some of the fun out of the evening, and of course Kiddy Officer Bouse wasn’t there… but we tried to have some fun anway. I had to call it an evening shortly after midnight to take Lauren home, so we left Chad & Travis at the bar, but I don’t think they lasted too much longer.

Time for bed now. I’ve got the morning off which will be nice and don’t have to be at work till 5:30 for the last drama show and then strike. Strike ought to be interesting… if you’re bored feel free to stop by around 9… If we get a big enough party together, I’m sure we’ll end up at the bar again… Sunday I’ve got music society so no church or anything else for me…

Wasted Day

I managed to do just about absolutely nothing all day today and I’m not quite sure how. I was going to go for a ride this morning, but then started talking to a bunch of people online – including some that I hadn’t talked to for a while – CJ & Jeff. Then this afternoon I went to print something and realized that with my new security settings on the wireless network, I couldn’t print so I spent hours trying to make that happen before finally giving up and going back to the open network.

This evening Batch and I went down to Apple to get his powerbook back, and I got feet for my 12″ (it was missing two for some reason). Then of course, we went to Cheesecake for dessert. The strawberries were really good tonight… it’s a good thing that place isn’t any closer than it is…

Now it’s time for bed as I have to be at work in the morning for the drama show and then senior night football. Tomorrow should also be interesting to see how this discussion goes with Travis . . .

I realized tonight how much I miss having people to talk to. . . . I think it will be good for me to go back to Fullerton if for nothing else than the drive time where I can have time to myself or where I can talk to friends on the phone… I’ve been so bad about that lately! (I didn’t even use 1000 minutes total last month!)

Here’s a song to leave you with for the evening…

Tell me you’ve had trouble sleeping
That you toss and turn from side to side
That it’s my face you’ve been seeing
In your dreams at night

Tell me that you wake up crying
And you’re not sure exactly why
Tell me that something is missing
In your life, in your life baby

[Chorus]
Tell me that you live for love
That forever is never enough
That you’ve waited all your life to see
That you want so badly to believe
Tell me that it’s not just me

I could have sworn I saw you smile at me
Standing in the poring rain
At a loss for words and running out of time
I said this crazy thing (crazy thing), I said

[Repeat Chorus]

Hold me now and tell me that you do believe
In a soul, a soul mate
And tell me, and tell me, tell me

[Repeat Chorus]

It’s Not Just Me

It’s Official

Well, I guess it is official. I registered for classes today at Cal State Fullerton. I guess I should give up my hopes of Idaho unless someone wants to quickly donate some money to my BYU-Idaho fund… I don’t even really feel like talking about it now, so I’m just going to go to bed now I think… Goodnight all…

New Icann Policy

From registerfly today:

Icann the governing body that regulates all registrars will be implementing a new policy concerning domain transfers effective November 12th.  From this point onward, if there is no acknowledgement from the registrant/administrative contact within 5 days of a transfer request being made, the transfer will automatically occur.  While this new policy will make it easier to transfer names between registrars, this can also make your domain name susceptible to fraudulent domain transfers if precautions are not taken.

We are strongly recommending all RegisterFly.com customers protect their domain names by using our free domain locking service. By using our domain name locking service, you would need to physically unlock the name before a transfer would be allowed ensuring  the highest levels of security.  You can enable the locking service(FlyLock) within the domain manager in a matter of seconds or our 24 x 7 Live support can also assist you in locking your names. If you have a large number of names you wish to lock please contact our service center at any time (https://registerfly.com/support/index.php) and our support representatives will gladly assist you in locking them.

Can be good & bad…

Credit Card Processing

I’m looking for a new way to process credit cards instead of using paypal. Anyone have any ideas? I’m waiting to hear back from Costco/Nova about their processing which seems like a great deal, I’m just not sure what kind of equipment I’m going to have to buy or lease from them. I’d love some type of web page solution where I could just type in the credit card number online somewhere. It would also be nice if the customers could pay through their secure website (and yet never realize it). I would really love it if we didn’t see any of the other companies info on the CC bill (unlike paypal*username).

Any suggestions?

Silver U2

Who painted the mic silver for the CMAs last night? And more importantly why?

Go Field Hockey

We had a really good game today… and we won against San Pasqual. I took about 800 pictures so I’m still working on going through them. Let’s see, the rest of the day – I edited music with Lupe at noon and then went to the Firehouse with Chad & Bouse. After the game this evening I went to the Roadhouse with Bouse, Batch, Pyro, Chad & Kelly and then we went car shopping… :) We looked at the hybrid Escape, but nobody bought anything. Not to much else to report. I think I’m going to watch some of the CMAs and then fall asleep.

DMV Norco

Ok, so for any of you who happen to need to go to a DMV office anytime in the near future… DON’T GO TO NORCO! It doesn’t matter if you have an appointment or not because everyone has to go through the start here line which moves slower than the rest of the place… Oh well, live and learn I guess.

I had an interesting time driving to Fullerton this morning. I was planning on calling people and talking to them the whole time, but just never got around to doing it. I do miss the drive believe it or not – it gave me lots of time to “clear my head” and also would give me lots of time to talk to people on the phone (who keep calling me a bum! (sorry manders)).

It looks like I’m probably going to end up being “forced” into a decision here by not making one… I found the Institute today across the street from Fullerton, so I’ll have to see if I can find anything there that would work out with me going to Fullerton. Maybe I’ll try living up there again a couple days a week. Maybe I’ll just keep driving, who knows… Each way has its own advantages.

Now I think it’s time to watch Runaway Jury and then it’s off to bed for me!
