Thunderstruck

I spent all day yesterday sitting on stage at the bob. That’s it. That’s what I did all day long. We had a 6 am call, loaded the show in (hung some banners, let the video guys setup) and then we did dance competitions until 9:30 or 10 p.m.

Highlights of the day:

- U G L Y you ain’t got no alibi!
- Aimee baby-sitting the stage for me so that I could get up and take a walk around.
- Deleting tons of old music from who knows where off my laptop. There sure were some interesting songs on there that I’m really not sure where they came from, or at least I’m not going to admit to where they came from. I can’t even remember what all of the fun ones were, but I remember Ice Ice Baby, Can’t Touch This, Wannabe and many more!
- Talking to people on AIM – namely Riley. Alison and many others helped keep down the boredom too.

Today is more of the same, but we are supposed to be done early!

Now add up your points and find out the answer you have been waiting
for! Put your character in the subject line and forward to you friends
and back to the person that sent this to you. Very interesting to see
“who” your friends are!

(10-16 points) You are Garfield: You are very comfortable, easy going,
and you definitely know how to have fun but sometimes you take it to an
extreme. You always know what you are doing and you are always in
control of your life. Others may not see things as you do, but that
doesn’t mean that you always have to do what is right. Try to remember
your happy spirit may hurt you or others.

(18-26 points) You are Snoopy: You are fun, you are very cool and
popular. You always know what’s in and you never are out of style. You
are good at knowing how to satisfy everyone else. You have probably
disappeared for a few days more than once but you always come home with
the family values that you learned. Being married and having children
are important to you, but only after you have had your share of fun
times.

(22-28 points) You are Arnold: You have lots of friends and you are
also
popular, always willing to give advice and help out a person in need.
You are very optimistic and you always see the bright side of things.
Some good advice: try not to be too much of a dreamer, if not you will
have many conflicts with life.

(29-34 points) You are Sponge Bob Square Pants: You are the classic
person that everyone loves. You are the best friend that anyone could
ever have and never want to loose. You never cause harm to anyone and
they would never not understand your feelings. Life is a journey, it’s
funny and calm for the most part. Stay away from traitors and jealous
people, then you will be stress free.

(35-42 points) You are Charlie Brown: you are tender, you fall in love
quickly but you are also very serious about all relationships. You are
a
family person. You call your mom every Sunday. You have many friends
and
may occasionally forget a few Birthdays. Don’t let your passion confuse
you with reality.

(43-50 points) You are Dexter: You are smart and definitely a thinker.
Every situation is fronted with a plan. You have a brilliant mind. You
demonstrate very strong family principles. Maintain a stable routine
but
never ignore a bad situation when it comes.

The Way Children See Things!

From Riley…

NUDITY
I was driving with my three young children one warm summer evening when a
woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark
naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my 5-year-old shout from the
back seat, “Mom! That lady isn’t wearing a seat belt!

HONESTY
My son Zachary, 4, came screaming out of the bathroom to tell me he’d
dropped his toothbrush in the toilet. So I fished it out and threw it in the
garbage. Zachary stood there thinking for a moment, then ran to my bathroom
and came out with my toothbrush. He held it up and said with a charming
little smile, “We better throw this one out too then,’cause it fell in the
toilet a few days ago.

KETCHUP
A woman was trying hard to get the ketchup to come out of the jar. During
her struggle the phone rang so she asked her 4-year-old daughter to answer
the phone. “It’s the minister, Mommy,” the child said to her mother. Then
she added, “Mommy can’t come to the phone to talk to you right now. She’s
hitting the bottle.”

MORE NUDITY
A little boy got lost at the YMCA and found himself in the women’s locker
room. When he was spotted, the room burst into shrieks, with ladies
grabbing towels and running for cover. The little boy watched in amazement
and then asked, “What’s the matter haven’t you ever seen a little boy
before?”

ELDERLY
While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins,
I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. The various
appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs,
unfailingly intrigued her. One day I found her staring at a
pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the
inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, “The tooth
fairy will never believe this!”

DRESS-UP
A little girl was watching her parents dress for a party. When she saw her
dad donning his tuxedo, she warned, “Daddy, you shouldn’t wear that suit.”
“And why not, darling?” “You know that it always gives you a headache the
next morning.”

SCHOOL
A little girl had just finished her first week of school. “I’m just wasting
my time,” she said to her mother. “I can’t read, I can’t write and they
won’t let me talk!”

BIBLE
A little boy opened the big family bible. He was fascinated as he fingered
through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked
up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been
pressed in between the pages. “Mama, look what I found”, the boy called
out.” What have you got there, dear?” With astonishment in the young boy’s
voice, he answered, “I think it’s Adam’s underwear!”

Calm Before the Storm

Today was fairly calm, compared to what some of the last ones have been. I wasn’t getting phone calls all day long, although I did get a couple this morning bright and early from Ben and then Sarah. When Sarah called I figured it must actually be time for me to get out of bed at like 8! I slept till 8! Sarah had a video that she needed to show at this morning’s pep rally. I told her last night just to put it back on the camera/tape, but then she couldn’t figure out how to hook it up to the projector. We’ll see how long this whole me not being there thing is going to work. I’d rather be there than get phone calls.

I can’t remember what I did all morning, but I met Chad & Bouse at the firehouse for lunch, then came home and sent a quote for doing the Easter sunrise service to Kirk. After that it was off to FHS to cut dance music, but Marliana never showed up! Wasn’t too happy about that – as I could have done a lot of other things with my time.

I left the high school and went to GT to do a wedding on the verandah because it started raining outside. I had two singers, which I hate having when I can’t see or for that matter even hear! The entire thing was CD, so that was interesting with 4 CDs and just one slow loading CD player. I think it is time for some sound system upgrades there along with the new mixer. Some new EVID speakers for the verandah at least.

I was going to go to bed early tonight – after drawing the group order for airbands – but ended up talking to Riley online for the past two plus hours. I did get the show order done and even posted. I did it all in Excel with random numbers and it worked out fairly easily. Now we’ll just wait to hear how much the kiddies complain about it.

. . .

OK, well I must be up in 6 hours and have a long day ahead of me, so ttyl!

Too Much Running Around

I did way too much driving around Fallbrook today – and I never even left town! First, I had to go to the school to edit dance music. Then it was the post office and the bank. I had to go into the bank to sign a credit inquiry, but when I got there they had just gotten a signed copy from the vendor requesting the credit, so didn’t actually have to go in! Then it was home for a couple seconds before leaving to take George’s gear to him. I came back home for about 30 minutes before I headed out for lunch at La Caseta.

After lunch I stopped by the GT to drop of the beta 58 cartridge and to talk about upcoming events. Then home for a little bit to pack up some stuff and get it shipped out – both FedEx and UPS today. We got an order early this morning for 3 rolls of gaff tape! People are actually finding the store, this is great! Now we need to just keep working on adding more stuff to the store! So I ended up having to take both packages into town to drop them off as it didn’t seem that UPS or FedEx was going to be stopping at my house today. Then I had to cut music at the Bob for some battle of the sexes thing tomorrow. Then Chad and I started talking about buying speakers instead of renting them for Easter sunrise. We still have to figure that one out. Then I came home to get something to eat, turned around and went back out to the Bob for soccer awards!

What a day!

. . .

Lots to do tomorrow and I’ve got an episode of Alias that I need to get watching, so L8.

9 days, 19 hours…

Till we find out how far in debt Mr. Bouse and I are! Even less time to the NCR show and to the loadin!

I got lots of paperwork done this morning which was really needed. I’ve got a bunch more that I need to get through tomorrow as I’m worried about how long some of the stuff may have been sitting here.

Got things worked out with George for the stage rental finally. He was just worried about us charging him for returning it a couple minutes late. I told him I would give him an extra day in the contract so he wouldn’t need to worry. . . .

I got to sit in traffic on my way to school this afternoon cause Caltrans decided to close down the slow lane so they could do something stupid like fill in a little hole on the shoulder. This of course was all the way up at the 71 and backed traffic up and onto the 15! Bouse says they are working on making a law that will make it so that they cannot close lanes during the day – that would be nice!

School was normal. Nothing crazy to report. I didn’t get my test back in Poly Sci yet as the teacher has to look over them after the TAs graded them. Our religion teacher actually came to the main campus today instead of teaching from El Toro which was weird. It was nice to have him there, but I’ve just gotten so used to him being on TV that it was weird to see him in person.

I got online during the break in the class and started talking to about 10 people online at the same time. Of course, 3 of them were out to make me laugh once I put up my message “in class… don’t make me laugh.” Bouse was doing pretty good on his first try, but Riley was doing the best with assistance from pictures and videos that she was sending. Needless to say, I didn’t pay too much attention to the 2nd half of the class.

. . .

Stopped at the bar on the way home for the 3rd day in a row this week (SORRY BATCH!) I got my donna special out of her tonight – they were out of brownie’s on Monday night when I was there.

Must be up in the morning to edit dance music and deal with some other stuff, so got to go! Good night all!

Too Much Airbands

Spent the entire day dealing with airbands stuff except for a brief period where I went to the high school to cut dance music. Had another set of ticket sales today and a bunch of phone calls. It looks like the east county groups are contacting us as they want to come which is cool, I just hope that everything works out and we don’t burn any bridges with East county ASB.

. . .

Oh Father, thank you for being there for me throughout the day. For trying to keep me sane no matter what event is thrown at me. Thank you for all the wonderful people in my life, even those that we may not be on the same page with at all times. Please help me to do your will, to be kind to others, to get all the things done that need to be done, and to learn to relax at times too. Father, I thank you for where I am, and what I have. I hope that I can only learn from the past and the present to make a better future. Please help me to become more like Jesus each and every day. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Getting in the Full Swing

The day started off well. I got my math homework done fairly quickly and then started dealing with some other stuff. However, when I got out of the shower I got inundated with phone calls, ims and other stuff. I never got the rest of my homework done, so now I’m really far behind in reading for business writing.

. . .

Did lunch at Chilis and then was on the phone dealing with airbands and other stuff the entire way to school. Got through classes, got back on the freeway and did the same thing yet again. I met Richie at the bar to do some GT scheduling and then went to Bouse’s to talk about airbands, etc.

East County did their show tonight, but they don’t want to send their groups to finals. Not sure why – I’m not sure what we did to make them not so happy with us, but hopefully we can reconcile our differences for future years, if not this year.

Much more to say, but too tired to write anymore…

Earthquake

We’re doing Fallbrook Music Society at the Bob today and during the show I think a fully loaded semi truck has just run into the building. Turns out we had a 3.5 magnitude earthquake like 4 miles south of the Palomar Observatory. Wasn’t anything too great, but kind of fun I guess. It’s been a while since we’ve had an earthquake, at least that I can remember, and a long time since we’ve had a “good” one.

In other news, it has now been proven that it is not a smart thing to drop a brick (40 lb. stage weight) on your finger while you’re loading the weight (or probably at anytime for that matter). I guess I need steel tipped gloves now! My finger really hurts and is purple. Probably not a good thing.

After the show I came home to try and get some homework done, but ended up going out with the guys to talk about airbands, etc. Kelly, Chad’s wife, was supposed to be getting an iBook, but Apple closed at 7 so she didn’t make it there.

Airbands is coming up in full force! 12 days, 20 hours… Now it is really time to get working – and of course I have tons of other stuff to be dealing with right now too. I have tons of homework to do for tomorrow and need to get some CBC stuff done too!

St. Theresa’s Prayer

May today there be peace within.
May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.
May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.
May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love
that has been given to you. May you be content knowing you are a child
of God.
Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the
freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every
one of you

Father’s Talk

THIS WILL GIVE YOU THE CHILLS People always say how mean kids can be, never how nice they can be. This story will either make you cry, give you cold chills or just leave you cold, but it puts life into perspective!

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled children,

the father of one of the school’s students delivered a speech that would

never be forgotten by all that attended.

After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question.

Everything God does is done with perfection. Yet, my son Shay cannot learn

things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children

do.

Where is God’s plan reflected in my son?” The audience was stilled by the

query. The father continued. “I believe,” the father answered, “that when

God brings a child like Shay into the world, an opportunity to realize the

Divine Plan presents itself and it comes in the way people treat that child.

Then, he told the following story:

Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, “Do you think they will let me play?” Shay’s father knew that the boys would not want him on their team. But the father understood that if his son were allowed to play it would give him

much-needed sense of belonging. Shay’s father approached one of the boys on the field and asked if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance

from his teammates. Getting none, he took matters into his own hands and

said, “We are losing by six runs, and the game is in the eighth inning. I

guess he can be on our team and we’ll try to put him up to bat in the ninth

inning.” In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay’s team scored a few runs

but was still behind by three. At the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a

glove and played in the outfield. Although no hits came his way, he was

obviously ecstatic just to be on the field, grinning from ear to ear as his

father waved to him from the stands. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay’s team scored again. Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base. Shay was scheduled to be the next at-bat. Would the team actually let Shay bat at this juncture and give away their chance to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn’t even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball. However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher moved a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least be able to make contact. The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed.. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly toward Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball to the pitcher. The pitcher picked up the soft

grounder and could easily have thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay

would have been out and that would have ended the game. Instead, the pitcher took the ball and threw it on a high arc to right field, far beyond reach of the first baseman.. Everyone started yelling, “Shay, run to first, run to

first.” Never in his life had Shay ever made it to first base. He scampered

down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled. Everyone yelled, “run to second,

run to second!” By the time Shay was rounding first base, the right fielder

had the ball. He could have thrown the ball to the second baseman for a tag.

But the right fielder understood what the pitcher’s intentions had been, so

he threw the ball high and far over the third baseman’s head. Shay ran

towards second base as the runners ahead of him deliriously circled the

bases towards home. As Shay reached second base, the opposing shortstop ran to him, turned him in the direction of third base, and shouted, “run to

third!” As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams were screaming,

Shay Run home!” Shay ran home, stepped on home plate and was cheered as the hero for hitting a “grand slam” and winning the game for his team. “That day” said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, “the boys

from both teams helped bring a piece of the Divine Plan into this world.”

Letter From a Farm Kid

LETTER FROM A FARM KID, NOW AT SAN DIEGO MARINE CORPS RECRUIT DEPOT.

Dear Ma and Pa:

I am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the
Marine Corps beats working for old man Minch by a mile. Tell them to
join up quick before
maybe all of the places are filled. I was restless at first because
you got to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m., but am getting so I like
to sleep late. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is
smooth your cot and shine some things. No hogs to slop, feed to
pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Practically nothing.
Men got to shave but it is not so bad, there’s warm water.

Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs,
bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, ham, steak, fried
eggplant, pie and other regular food, but tell Walt and Elmer you
can always sit by the two city boys that live on coffee. Their food
plus yours holds you till noon when you get fed again.

It’s no wonder these city boys can’t walk much. We go on “route
marches”, which the platoon sergeant says are long walks to harden
us. If he thinks so, it’s not my place to tell him different. A
“route march” is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the
city guys get sore feet and we all ride back in trucks. The
country is nice but awful flat. The sergeant is like a school
teacher. He nags a lot. The Capt. is like the school board. Majors
and colonels just ride around and frown. They don’t bother you none.

This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting
medals for shooting. I don’t know why. The bulls-eye is near as big
as a chipmunk head and
don’t move, and it ain’t shooting at you like the Higgett boys at
home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. You
don’t even load your own cartridges. They come in boxes. Then we
have what they call hand-to hand combat training. You get to wrestle
with them city boys. I have to be real careful though, they break
real easy. It ain’t like fighting with that ole bull at home. I’m
about the best they got in this except for that Tug Jordan from over
in Silver Lake. I only beat him once. He joined up the same time as
me, but I’m only 5’6″ and 130 pounds, and he’s 6’8″ and weighs near
300 pounds dry.

Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other
fellers get onto this set up and come stampeding in.

Your loving daughter,
Gail.

Remember

Heavenly Father, Help us remember that the jerk who cut us off in traffic
last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few
precious moments with her children.

Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young
man who can’t make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college
student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not
getting his student loans for next semester.

Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same
spot every day (who really ought to get a job!) is a slave to
addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.

Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the
store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment,
knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will
be the last year that they go shopping together.

Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the
greatest gift is love. It is not enough to share that love with those we
hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to all
humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, show patience,
empathy and love.

If you send this to 5 people, then you have a chance to touch 5 people. You
won’t get any wish for material things; however you might just find
a piece of serenity and the warmth of God’s touch.

Working for God on earth doesn’t pay much……but His retirement plan is
out of this world!

Car Problems?

This was written by a Hospice of Metro Denver physician

I just had one of the most amazing experiences of my life, and wanted to
share it with my family and dearest friends:

I was driving home from a meeting this evening about 5, stuck in traffic on
Colorado Blvd., and the car started to choke and splutter and die -

I barely managed to coast, cursing, into a gas station, glad only that I
would not be blocking traffic and would have a somewhat warm spot to wait
for the tow truck. It wouldn’t even turn over. Before I could make the call,
I saw a woman walking out of the “quickie mart” building, and it looked
like
she slipped on some ice and fell into a gas pump, so I got out to see if she
was okay. When I got there, it looked more like she had been overcome by
sobs than that she had fallen; she was ayoung woman who looked really haggard
with dark circles under her eyes. She dropped something as I helped her up,
and I picked it up to give it to her. It was a nickel.

At that moment, everything came into focus for me: the crying woman, the
ancient Suburban crammed full of stuff with 3 kids in the back (1 in a car
seat), and the gas pump reading $4.95. I asked her if she was okay and if
she needed help, and she just kept saying “I don’t want my kids to see me
crying,” so we stood on the other side of the pump from her car. She said
she was driving to California and that things were very hard for her right
now.

So I asked, “And you were praying?” That made her back away from me a
little but I assured her I was not a crazy person and said, “He heard you, and He
sent me.”

I took out my card and swiped it through the card reader on the pump so she
could fill up her car completely, and while it was fueling walked to the
next door McDonald’s and bought 2 big bags of food, some gift certificates
for more, and a big cup of coffee. She gave the food to the kids in the car
who attacked it like wolves, and we stood by the pump eating fries and
talking a little She told me her name, and that she lived in Kansas City.
Her boyfriend left 2 months ago and she had not been able to make ends meet.
She knew she wouldn’t have money to pay rent Jan 1, and finally in
desperation had finally called her parents, with whom she had not spoken in
about 5 years. They lived in California and said she could come live with
them and try to get on her feet there. So she packed up everything she
owned in the car. She told the kids they were going to California for
Christmas, but not that they were going to live there.

I gave her my gloves, a little hug and said a quick prayer with her for
safety on the road. As I was walking over to my car, she said, “So, are you
like an angel or something?” This definitely made me cry. I said, “Sweetie,
at this time of year angels are really busy, so sometimes God uses regular
people.” It was so incredible to be a part of someone else’s miracle. And of
course, you guessed it, when I got in my car it started right away and got me
home with no problem. I’ll put it in the shop tomorrow to check, but I suspect the
mechanic won’t find anything wrong.

Sometimes the angels fly close enough to you that you can hear the flutter
of their wings…

Psalms 55:22 “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee He
shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

Don’t Check Your Bags!

I spent most of yesterday pushing paper and working on stuff for airbands. I can’t believe that the show is less than two weeks away!

We sold more stuff in the store!!! More milk crates… Who knew they were going to be such a popular item? In any event, we’ve now gotten three orders for them, along with the order of pictures which brings us up to 4 real orders in the store! We really need to be working on putting stuff in there!

I went to Ontario to pick up Richie last night. He made the mistake of checking his bags – so after driving in circles for over a half hour, he finally told me that they lost his bag and that it would be here tomorrow. We then went and got some cheesecake at the factory in brea. Who knew the freaking place was like a block up the street from CSUF!!! Not a good thing for me to know! I knew it was in the area, but didn’t know it was practically walking distance. I have a feeling I’m going to be leaving a little earlier from now on for school and having some big lunches!

Got home about 1:30 this morning and went straight to bed. Got up this morning, did a wedding at the GT, came home and played with importing items into QuickBooks and the online store and then went back out for another wedding.

. . .

Anyway… I’m going to finish watching “Little Black Book” and head to bed.
