Happy Birthday Alison

Happy Birthday to Alison who turned 21 today and is out celebrating at TGi Friday’s right now!

I don’t have anything really fun to report for today. I went to the Bob this morning to do some cleaning and to edit some dance music. We got the shop cleaned up, but I think that was about it. I edited four songs for dance. Chad, Batch, Pyro and I went to lunch at the Firehouse.

We had two orders on the store today and two more people ask for quotes on stuff. I guess that makes it a pretty good day.

MacBook

By now, I’m sure you’re all aware of the big items from the MacWorld SF Keynote this morning. There was the new Intel based 15.4″ portable, which some stupidly named the MacBook. The new powebook has an iSight builtin, a magnetically attached power adapter, and no more firewire 800! They did up the screen resolution, so that it now boasts the same real estate that my 17″ does, 1440×900. It also has an IR remote control.

There was the updated iMac, now with Intel inside. Basically the same machine as before. Updated iLife ’06. (I don’t even think I have iLife ’05 yet!) The new iPod remote with FM Tuner (Receiver). I think that was about it. I was anxious to hear about the new PowerBook, but the rest didn’t really interest me. In fact, the MacBook doesn’t even sport anything that I’m dying for. Other than it being a little faster than my 17 inch, and of course smaller, it doesn’t really offer me anything new. I think I may have escaped another MacWorld without feeling the sudden urge to buy something. Well, ok, I felt the urge, but I was able to calm it down and not act on it.

During the rest of the day, I got caught up on a lot of stuff, but I am still way behind on my store watching/adding. Chad dragged me to Yogurt Palace this afternoon. Hanna was working there and told us all about her music that I need to cut. I had a couple dance girls call me today about cutting music, and we’ve got appointments set for tomorrow. I don’t know what I want to work out with Georgie though now that ASB isn’t going to pay me to cut her music.

This evening Chad and I worked Karen Ricci’s financial aid info night thing. I watched part of the keynote, and then we started working on some other stuff that needs to get done, like getting some of the new panels designed and ordered.

I think that is about it from my exciting life for today. Tomorrow I’m going to be working with Chad at the Bob and cutting some dance music. I guess we’ll see what else the new day brings as well; Hopefully, some more orders!

Keynote Tomorrow

12 Hours to the keynote! I won’t be there again this year, but I’ll try and tune in as best as possible from home. I need a satellite dish so that I can just tune in and grab the feed.

I spent most of the day playing catch up, and I’m still behind. I got the Rip van Christmas videos done this morning. Promack and I went for a ride. I duplicated some more videos. I played shipping and receiving manager, entered bills and all that fun stuff.

This evening I was called out to the Brands to take care of some stuff there. Hopefully I have got the Internet connection problem squelched with the new firmware in the router. We’ll find out eventually what other new problems it has created though. The Outlook sync seems to be working pretty well though, although it takes it some time to get changes through sometimes.

I’m cutting it short tonight cause it’s late and I need to get to bed. So good night to all!

The Three Waiters

Yesterday I looked into housing for NAMM. I couldn’t find anything that really seemed to do it for me. Everything was upwards of $150, and even at IRS mileage rates it would only cost $70 to return home. It doesn’t sound like EV is throwing that great of a party this year, so I was thinking that maybe I’d go do dinner with the family and spend the night in Yorba Linda. I guess I need to find out what Batch and Chad want to do. I think the Marriott Buena Park was still available and was around $130 as an option for them if they wanted to party it up.

Last night I did sound for The Three Waiters, the act that was booked for a 90th birthday party last night at the Grand Tradition. It was a little crazy getting things setup in such a short time, but it got done and that is all that matters. They were happy with the six speakers; I put three on each side (East/West) of the hall, and spaced them about 25 feet apart. I think I figured out they needed the speakers throughout for them, not necessarily for the audience. I guess IEM or something would be a harder request to fulfill than the six speaker surround sound. I ran everything flat, dialed up some verb and watched the UR2s suck through the AA batteries in high power mode like there was no tomorrow. I was actually getting worried at one point as to if they were going to make it through. Of course, Shure came through for me and they worked out flawlessly. The act seemed happy with the sound, and the client was thrilled as well. I didn’t get out of there until about 11, but such is life.

This morning I was up early for North Coast. Things went pretty well with the new console, while I sat back and caught up on my forum reading. I got some quick pictures of the console to post on the CBC blog. Chad let me go early so that I had enough time to get home, eat a quick lunch and change before running to GT for a wedding.

I had fun pushing, or rather letting it pull me down the hill, the racks and stuff that was up in the hall because of last nights event. Everything still seems to work, so that was a big plus. We really need to find a better way of transporting this stuff back and forth. The wedding went well, except that the grooms microphone didn’t work during the ceremony. I tested it beforehand, and I’m pretty sure that it was transmitting during the ceremony. I know the pack was on when it was returned to me, but the element had been unplugged, although i don’t know when it was. I’m thinking that he must have unplugged the cable from the pack at some point. Oh well, I guess there always has to be a first, right? Even with the extra work of the day, I still had some time to nab some pictures of the install to add to the CBC site at some point in the future.

I watched a couple more episodes of Without a Trace, Season 1 tonight. I looked to add Season 2 to my Netflix Queue, but I couldn’t find them on there. Hopefully they decide to show up at some point. Now it is time for me to get some sleep.

God’s Boxes

Thanks Brooke!

I have in my hands two boxes,
Which God gave me to hold.
He said, “Put all your sorrows in the black box,
And all your joys in the gold.”

I heeded His words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored,
But though the gold became heavier each day,
The black was as light as before.

With curiosity, I opened the black,
I wanted to find out why,
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole,
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to God, and mused,
“I wonder where my sorrows could be!”
He smiled a gentle smile and said,
“My child, they’re all here with me.”

I asked God, why He gave me the boxes,
Why the gold and the black with the hole?
“My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go.”

We should consider all of our Friends a Blessing.
Send this to a Friend today just to let them know You
are thinking of them and that they are a joy in your life.

A ball is a circle, no beginning, no end.
It keeps us together like our Circle of Friends.
But the treasure inside for you to see,
Is the treasure of Friendship You’ve granted to Me.

Today I pass the Friendship ball to you.
Pass it on to someone who is a Friend to you…

Happy Birthday Alana

Birthday greetings to Alana de Jong today. I actually got to talk with her briefly this afternoon. It’s hard to believe how little we actually see each other working on the same campus (well, ok, I never leave the Bob anymore), but even just in town. I feel bad, but I guess I should be used to that by now.

I got caught up on a good amount of work today, but I am still behind in my store watching, updating and adding.

I went down to the high school this afternoon to help Chad get the box from the new console into the shop. We also opened up the GB8 and took a look at it. It looks like it should be a good console for the price. It’s not quite the MH2, but I think it will work for GT. I also prepped the stuff for my “show” tomorrow. This sure is going to be interesting, but I’m confident that it will work out.

I spent some time talking with Pyro today about wether he should go on tour or not. It’s a tough call with the City job. I could argue either side of it, but I think he is going to decide to go. Good luck getting that passport in time! Speaking of which, I looked at mine today and I have expired by a couple years now. Should I bother renewing? Scratch that, it’s $67 just to renew the darn thing. I think I’ll wait until I have a reason to have one again, unless someone can justify the need to have it ready.

I also talked with Alison today and she reminded me that I hadn’t seen my grades for last semester yet. I had been checking for them, but they hadn’t been online and I was getting tired of checking. Anyway, they were online today. I did about as I was expecting. Not great, but fairly good considering the zero amount of effort that went into all of my classes. I still think it is pretty sad that my best class was the Health one. Hopefully next semester will be better.

I upgraded my blog to WordPress 2.0 this evening. They changed some stuff around in the backend, no major front end improvements that I noticed. I hope that the antispam program that they are pushing works as well as Spam Karma did before. I figured I’d give it a try because it actually will delete the spam comments from the database instead of just making them as hidden (or whatever Karma did). I also decided that with a new installation, it was time for a new theme. I’m still not sure if I like the current theme or not, but I figured it at least deserved a try.

I also went through my site and got rid of a bunch of old stuff, and I think redirected just about everything to inside of my blog system now. If you find any links that don’t work, or any pages that are outside of the blog system (aside from pictures) please let me know so that I can fix it.

I Got My Fudds

I got my Fudds and that is all that really matters in life. Well, maybe not really. Chad, Batch, Pyro and I drove up to Northridge today to get the Bob’s new MH2-48 and GT’s new GB8-16 consoles. On the way, we stopped at Fuddruckers in Buena Park. There was some talk about meeting Ryan at the Sherman Oaks Galleria Cheesecake Factory, but we were all getting too hungry and I was way craving Fuddruckers. Kathryn wasn’t there, so it wasn’t 100% (and Pyro complained about them not having spicy ranch), but I think it was still a good solid A.

The drive to Northridge wasn’t any worse than one would expect. There was traffic on the 405 past LAX, and of course on the 91 West of Fullerton. We also hit a bit in Monrovia, but that was because of an accident. We got back to the Bob around 4 and started moving the new console in. Pyro got the fun job of soldering up a bunch of new connectors as we had to change about 20 of them. Batch and Chad also were able to solve one of the problems with the patch bays because of a grounding problem on Ch 18/34.

We got the new console up and running and started discovering weird quirks that we’ll get used to after a couple days. One of them that the guys had a hard time with was that you don’t get L//R meters unless you choose to monitor the “mix.” I’ve seen other consoles that work this way, but they thought it was odd. I will admit it was odd that the Center channel meter worked while the rest didn’t, but I guess that all just comes down to how the person who designed the console likes to use them. We also ran in to a problem with Aux 9 & 10. Unfortunately, this problem appears to be because someone never finished terminating the cables in the first place, so we’ll have to figure out a work around. We also had a “Soundcraft Lamp” that fell apart and then didn’t seem to work on us. If that’s the only problem with the consoles, I’ll be happy!

Tomorrow I’ve got a lot of catching up to do. Being gone all day today has caused a bunch of stuff to get piled up, on top of a good stack that was already waiting to be dealt with. I didn’t see any orders on the store today, but I also haven’t checked to see how our visitor stats are looking. I tried to catch up on those this morning, but I couldn’t make it. I’d be really happy if it would keep it up.

We all need to have a moment of silence for Pyro’s hard drive. Apparently, it is all Chad’s fault that Pyro’s drive crashed the other day because Chad told him to back it up as he thought it was about to die. Good going Chad! Anyway, if you haven’t backed your stuff up in a while, I suggest you work on that. I know I have a lot of stuff backed up, but I also know that I’m not fully covered either. (Speaking of backing up, Backup just started backing up my laptop!)

Oh well, it’s late and I need to get to bed. Lots to do tomorrow. Good night and God Bless!
