Patient Diligence

Today went well. It may have been a bit hotter than I would have liked, but I guess I just have to live with that or move North. I slept in this morning till about 9 at which point it was too hot to sit around anymore. I got up and prepared for Church, making sure I was ready for the lessons. As I was going to take a shower, I stopped and played catch with Matthew for a few minutes with this ball that is actually a dog toy. I don’t remember how exactly we ended up with it, but it was a Christmas present I believe. In any event, as I was coming back from the shower I found Matthew & Susan playing with the dog ball and the cat’s scratching post. One was throwing the ball while the other tried to maneuver the scratching post so that the ball would go in one of the holes. I took pictures which I’ll have to post later.

Branch council went well – the room was packed. Zion talked about having patient diligence and we further discussed about the spirit of our patience. It made me think of the time Marissa and I spent trying to get out of – and into – Coors on Friday night. We had roughly 45 minutes on each side. I tried to be patient, but kept expressing my impatience while she at least gave the impression of having real patience to deal with the situation. I wouldn’t say that it was necessarily getting either of us stressed out, but I think I could still work on my reaction. I did enjoy the time as it allowed us extra time to just sit and talk or listen to more of Brad’s music on Brad FM 95.7.

Fast and testimony meeting went well with a good line of people ready to speak throughout most of the meeting. I actually thought about getting up there, but with all the people lined up, I figured I’d continue sitting at enjoying hear from them. We ended late as usual, but I was expecting it. Taylor taught a shortened version of the NT lesson and told me that his team is getting transferred to Corona. I tried to talk him into driving down to our branch still, but we’ll have to see how that works out. We are going to get our teacher development class going next week, so that will be interesting and hopefully will be good for those in attendance.

I stayed after church for break the fast for the first time ever. It was good, so maybe I’ll have to do it more often. I headed over to the Dowden’s for dinner and hanging out with a handful of others. Things went well there, but Marissa never showed up. T decided that the guy to girl ratio was too high, so he started text messaging girls in the branch to get them to come over. I got him to start calling some too. I think the only one that showed up from his efforts was Marie, but maybe it made someone else’s day to be invited even if they didn’t come, and of course we were happy to have Marie with us. When Tyler and Andrew started doing crazy things at the Dowden’s, I decided to pull out my camera, so I’ve got some pictures from the evening which I will also have to post later.

It sounds like at least a handful of people are up for going to see Rascal Flatts in September at Coors. Tim, Tara and Andrea all sounded like they were ready to go, so maybe we can get a group together and celebrate Tim’s birthday at the same time.

I read or heard somewhere lately that conversation is important with your spouse because as you age conversation is going to be a big part of what you have left.

Well, I guess I will have patience to see how things work out. Tomorrow should be interesting with an 8 member choir plus band at the wedding with 200 guests. To top it off, it’s at 2 o’clock which means I will be cooking out there. Wish me luck!

Brad Paisley

Things ended up working out for the Brad Paisley concert last night, but certainly not as originally planned. (Assuming you can call 20 some hours prior to the show planning.) Marissa ended up taking my extra ticket. Amanda later sprung on me that she could not find a babysitter and therefore wasn’t going to be able to go. So, Marissa and I ended up going, sans Amanda – and I had an extra ticket, again.

I pushed to get the wedding started at GT early, and the bride walked down the aisle at 4:58! I was out of there at 5:30, drove home, showered, got dressed and hit the road. We actually made decent time getting to Chula Vista. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to account for the 45 minutes it took us to get from the freeway to the amphitheater. We were just stuck in bumper to bumper traffic as people slowly found parking spots and figured out what they were doing. I would have gone crazy if I had been sitting in the car by myself at this point, but Marissa helped me keep my cool.

We gave up on trying to find a parking spot and just paid $20 for preferred parking. It certainly helped get us in faster, and we thought it would help get us out faster. When we got out of the car, I thought I heard someone lip-syncing to one of Taylor Swift’s songs. As we got closer, I realized that in fact this was her trying to sing to one of her own songs. It was almost painful to hear her. I don’t know if she couldn’t hear herself, if she was sick or just really that bad. We ended up missing Kellie Pickler and most of Taylor. We grabbed some cold pizza and a warm water from the concession stand before attempting to meet up with Nathaniel. As we were walking towards the lawn, a security guard directed us to section 303, center house, third tier. We thought that sounded better than the grass so we went for it. Nathaniel later came down and then disappeared again, but I never saw the rest of his group.

Jack Ingram was pretty decent, but the reason for going was Brad. He had a cool stage and gave a great performance. I liked most of his songs, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be his acoustic version of “We Danced.” He played it while the rest of the bad took a break, so it was just him and his acoustic guitar. The whole thing was great though. I was very happy I ended up being able to go, and even more so that Marissa was able to accompany me. I had a blast, and I think she did too. We may just have to go back to Coors for Rascal Flatts in September.

We tried to stop at Cheesecake Factory on the way back, but they closed some odd seconds before we checked in. It was probably all for the best though. We got our dessert to go and sat in the mall to eat for a few minutes before completing the journey home.

Well, I really should get to sleep, but I’ll give a quick overview of today. I dragged myself out of bed this morning to go riding with Promack. Of course, I had to call his house and wake him up in order to go riding, but the small miracle was accomplished. After riding I cooled down by looking at how far behind I was in my email and responded to one from Kristin from Florida. I blew off the driveway, cut my hair, vacuumed a bit, did some paperwork and then figured that I needed to get into 5th gear (pun intended). I took a quick shower, ate lunch and it was off to a wedding. It was warm, but it didn’t seem all that bad. Things went alright there, I just ended up doing more work that I needed to. I set up the dvd rack, but came to find out later that they had canceled it. I also setup a mic for a reader, but they never used it during the ceremony. Granted, I’d much rather setup extra stuff than be surprised by something, but it drives me crazy when the paperwork isn’t correct – or in this case when I don’t have any paperwork! I came home, washed my car which somehow got really dirty on Friday, watched “Robots” and have been typing now for over an hour… I’m going to sleep!
