Haunted Trail

Another night I’m up past 1 in the morning? Are you kidding me? I don’t even think there is a stretch to blame this one on Melissa either. We went down to the Haunted Trail at Balboa Park tonight. Other than the long waiting and no parking, it was pretty good. I wasn’t scared, but was startled a few times. Mandi was freaking out though and I was pretty much attached to her side the entire time. Melissa, her sister, was attached to the other side firmly. We made Melissa M. and Krystal lead the pack. Krystal kept saying things like “oh hi” to the guys when they tried to scare her and I was just cracking up. Melissa M said at one point no me gusta dolls and the girl replied back but we me gusta you! That’s was pretty good.

Today was kind of crazy. I’m looking forward to a relaxing Sunday now. I got started with some laundry this morning and then Melissa Davis and I went up to Lake Elsinore to pick up some money and then went to Bed, Bath & Beyond to get a present for Jim & Leisha’s wedding, which we then drove straight to. It was a little different attending the wedding in the chapel. We then had some break time at which point I took Melissa home and came home to finish up my laundry and grab a bite to eat.

The reception was good other than I didn’t know many of the people there and it was a bit warmer than I would have liked. I came home and tried to break my website for a while and then it was off to the trail.

Wicked Trip Part 2

Wicked Trip Part 2

Let’s see if I can pick this up where I left off last night. Cheesecake. The Beverly Hills Cheesecake is quite smaller than your typical Cheesecake Factory and you almost walk through the kitchen to get through the restaurant. The surprising part was that there was no wait when we came in even though it was about 5:30. I’ll spare you the details of dinner, you can just know that Krystal felt that her chocolate raspberry cheesecake was better than mine. I actually did try something new: the 30th anniversary cheesecake which is layers of the original cheesecake with Linda’s Fudge Cake. It was pretty good in my opinion and pretty rich. We actually had to call it quits about half way through the cheesecakes and saved them for after the show.

Wicked was amazing. I had been telling Krystal not to expect much from the seats because we got them at the last minute and so forth. I was trying to build her up to expect the last row of the balcony or something. Well, I think my story got blown when they told us what door to go to – door number three, which is downstairs. Oh, maybe it’s just the back row of orchestra. As we were walking she almost nervously said “we keep walking.” I should have said something like we’re just going to check out the orchestra pit when she asked what row we were going to. She was thrilled when we stopped at row F and then slid to almost dead center.

The cast was almost entirely different from what I had seen any other time. The only main character that was the same was Madame Morrible, played by Carol Kane. We had the understudy for Galinda/Glinda. She did a good job. Fiero was pretty good as well, I’d say second best to the actor on the tour, although I wasn’t as critical of his role the first time I saw it. I still thought the sound was a bit off. Maybe the crew is just tired of the production or maybe they don’t have good fill speakers for the front. Everything considered, I’d say that everyone seemed to do a great job in the show. I enjoyed it so much that I quite literally would have come back the next night to see it again. Krystal “is in love with Wicked and wants a remote that can rewind her back to the beginning of WICKED!!!!”

So, the short of it is that I don’t know exactly what made this trip to Wicked so great. I don’t think I could put my finger on one thing in particular. I think overall though this trip tops the chart and has raised the bar for a great evening out. I enjoyed the show and appreciated the company greatly. I would totally do it again this week.

Now, on to today. As usual, I spent most of the day cleaning. As I was vacuuming downstairs near the entry I found these black spots that I hadn’t seen before. When I ran the vacuum over them, they only got bigger and bolder. The best way I can think to describe them is something like dry toner. I don’t know why I would have something like that on my floor, or what it was in reality. Since the vacuum was only making it worse, I got out the carpet cleaner and decided that pretty much everything downstairs needed a good cleaning. Well, hours later the family room, dining room and hallways had been done. The spots came out along with a lot of other dirt as I had to make many a trip to the sink to empty and refill. This was of course in addition to the other cleaning chores I did, so it took most of the day.

Lauren called me about going to some work thin with her. I told her I’d try and be there, but had to figure out some timing things. I got sidetracked with some work things that didn’t work out as they should have, so i wasn’t able to be there right on time. I could never get a hold of her to figure out where I was supposed to be going or what to wear, so it never happened. I was really sad about it as I haven’t seen her for a few weeks now.

I ended up helping out with the movie in the park or drive in movie as they like to call it. They needed some more power cables and other things to make it all work, so that got me out of the house this evening. I got things going, waited for people to show up and then took off. I called Sister Dowden on my way home to check in and ended up going over there to see the new look for her site. Of course that turned into a longer thing and it was about midnight before I got home.

I’ve got lots to do for church tomorrow, so I should probably get to sleep now that I am wound down. Good night and I hope you will join me tomorrow for church. We meet at 1 off the 215 at Los Alamos.

Early Priesthood Meeting

Early Priesthood Meeting

Getting up for the 6 am priesthood meeting this morning was no fun. I totally almost didn’t make it and certainly didn’t have the time I was hoping for. I did manage to get somewhat cleaned up for the morning, get dressed, grab some cookies and make it there on time. I guess since there weren’t any women there to impress I didn’t have to worry about looking good. 🙂

The meeting went well. There was more prop 8 stuff and a call to action to really get our forces moving. We were asked to have 100% home teaching as a stake next month, so that is going to be a major challenge. I have a feeling I’m going to be home teaching like crazy starting tomorrow, so I’d better get a copy of the message quickly. President Smith also talked about our lights being off and turned off one set of chandeliers to make his point. The two sets were identical in every way, except one. They were both made the same. They were both capable of producing light. One set just wasn’t lit.

After the meeting, I came home and made pancakes. Brother Kowallis, David Mayfield and Tyler came to join me. It was nice and kind of makes me want to do a monthly breakfast or something. I just wonder how many people would show up for breakfast before church and then with my meetings, I don’t know how well it would work or if I would have to skip them that week.

We had interesting meetings with President Clegg today. I enjoyed his thoughts and his humility in the new calling. I think things are going to work out just fine here, although I did miss President Mattson’s warm smile and handshake this morning along with the comfy chairs and Rexburg Temple portrait on the wall. We have a social on Wednesday night to get to know him and his family better.

I went to the Dowden’s tonight after getting some emails done at home and getting pictures off the camera. It was pretty quiet there, even with Krystal’s presence. I got to talk with Brother Clark for a while and then met someone new, Carla, at branch prayer. I felt like I was on a roll. Speaking of rolls, I think Krystal won the award for most pictures tonight which I think is a first. I tagged Melissa in only 8 of the ones I uploaded and Krystal in 25! Maybe she is getting more used to the camera and opening up. Shelby and Lauren were both at prayer, it was nice to see them.

I’m not sure what is going on tomorrow. Maybe I’ll work some more with Sister Dowden, maybe I’ll hang around the house and be lazy. I’m thinking about going to the zoo in the evening to see the show before it closes. Other than that, I’m looking forward to a fairly boring, relaxing day!

Anticipation

I really want to know about the house. I don’t think I can wait till Friday! I hope the bank gets their act in gear and lets me know either way soon. Of course I would like for it to be an affirmative we’ve accepted your offer so we can get this show going, yet even if I’m not going to get it I’d like to know so that we can move on to the next one.

Things went pretty well today. Zach and I decided not to meet up this morning and work on home teaching, so I had some extra time at home to get things organized which was nice. PEC and the block went well, really nothing to report.

I left the Dowden’s after dinner to go hang out with Kim and then we went to branch prayer. We missed the thought and prayer, but got to hang out with people, including the new branch shepherds from the Los Alamos ward, the Diffley’s.

I’m not sure what to do with myself tomorrow. We’ve got the activity at the Mattson’s in the afternoon. I was thinking about going to the temple in the morning. We are going Friday, so I’m not sure if I need to go Monday or just make sure that I am there on Friday and that way save on some gas. I’m trying to figure out what to do for Tara’s birthday on Wednesday. I’m thinking maybe about baking cookies and FedExing them to her. I guess that could keep me out of trouble in the morning and give me something to take to the Mattson’s.

If anyone reading this would like to join in the festivities tomorrow, please let me know. We’ll be playing in the pond with the zip line and slide and will have volleyball and ping pong as well as other misc activities. It is always a great time up there.

P.S. Happy Birthday Christa!
