Happy Not So Birthday To Me

Well let’s see. I didn’t end up making it to Disneyland on Thursday. When the morning came around, sleep was sounding so good and since no one had volunteered to accompany me, I figured I’d take what I could. I would have loved to have gone and bought some Disney stuff, but I guess I’ll have to wait till next year if they’re still doing it.

It was a long day at work, but all went fairly well. The show went off without a hitch and everyone was happy with our work. I hope we’re able to get some more business out of the deal.

I ended up sleeping in a bit Friday morning as well and tried to get all sorts of things done in the office. Unfortunately it felt like I didn’t get much done. I was planning on going in today to get taxes done – or started – but I ended up with so much to do at home that I never left the house.

Last night I just kind of took it easy at home. The missionaries asked if we could meet to fill one of their spots that someone had backed out of, so we did that and then I watched the double header of 24. Before they came over I spent about an hour figuring out how to get the audio out of my DVR. I thought it would be easy to take the optical out, but apparently it is encoded and not just a PCM stream or something and the MacBook couldn’t recognize it. I tried all sorts of things to just get the stereo audio through and it just wouldn’t work. I finally came across a way through firewire to have the MacBook emulate a DVCR and then was able to capture the video and audio feed through VLC. It’s a bit hairy, but it worked and I was able to get the new Rascal Flatts song “Here Comes Goodbye” at least temporarily while I wait for them to release their new album.

I think I’m going to get the company to signup for Promo Only so I can get these new songs sent to me without having to wait for the album. The service doesn’t cost that much more than the songs themselves really do and while I won’t like them all, it could be beneficial in times like this. That will also help me at work to have the most current songs even if they are ones that I don’t particularly care for myself.

I spent the bulk of today cleaning. I finally got caught up on all the newspapers. Well, the big stacks are gone. There are a handful of sections that I saved to read longer stories in or for reference. I decided to toss all the sections I had been saving for Soduku since it seems that Maegan isn’t coming over anytime soon to play a bunch and I get two new ones each and everyday. I finally cleaned the carpet in the family room which had a few stains that I’ve found recently on it. It looks like the big stuff came out which is good. I still have a hard time believing sometimes how dirty the water is coming out of the carpet when it looks so clean. I guess it just goes to show that you never really are done cleaning. There are still lots of things that I need to do, but I’m very happy with the kitchen and family room being clean again. I also got my shower much cleaner than it was and did laundry today.

I had some extra chicken left over from Monday which I needed to cook or freeze so Ashley and I decided to make some chicken alfredo. I think it was the best I’ve ever made. The chicken was very tender and the seasoning worked out quite well. I’m actually kind of looking forward to those leftovers even though I know they won’t be as good as it was tonight.

Lauren had talked about possibly coming over tonight, but I never heard anything from her, so we went with plan B (above). Ashley and I then watched My Girl. I had forgotten how much I love that movie. The music is so great and I love so many of the lines and plots.

Well, I guess I’d best be off to sleep so I can make it though this heck of a day tomorrow.

P.S. Did I mention that Alison called me aged the other night?

Waitin’ On A Woman

Today wasn’t my typical Saturday. I guess in many ways though it was about what it should be. I didn’t spend the entire day cleaning, although I sure could have. I forced myself out of bed this morning to help with building cleanup since I missed the last three weeks of it and Cynthia has been trying to guilt me into going. Of course, she wasn’t there this morning cause she was at work, but I went nonetheless. It was actually the quickest building cleanup I’ve ever done. We were done about 8:45 and I don’t recall ever being out of there before 9:30 before.

That gave me enough time to come home and take a shower before going into work to meet a customer who was returning some gear. I was very pleased to get over 41 mpg driving to the office. I have to wonder if Toyota did in fact do something to the Camry as it seems to have been getting much better gas mileage lately than it typically would.

I came home and went through the mail. It was just about perfect timing as there were a few things that I needed to take care of in there. I didn’t get very far with cleaning up my desk, but at least it isn’t getting any worse. I had an interesting encounter regarding spaghetti today. i was asked to bring some for break the fast tomorrow. The sheet said to bring it cooked, but I asked if there was really a reason to cook it ahead of time with it then needing to be reheated. I was told it was ok for me to bring the spaghetti uncooked, but to make sure the sauce was cooked. That really threw me off. Am I supposed to take the sauce out of the jar, heat it up and then put it in some container to take it to church where it can sit in my car from 11 till 4 and then need to be reheated? I won’t even mention the health concerns, or that it would need to go in the fridge. I also had to explain that me bringing spaghetti doesn’t necessarily involve me bringing a sauce for it. I guess we are just all on different pages with our pasta. I think I’ll just be bringing a package of spaghetti and a jar of sauce and we’ll let the girls figure it out from there. Maybe I’m just in an argumentative mood lately.

After I finished eating lunch, I went to Pat & Oscar’s with Lauren (Kristin) and had some breadsticks. We had a good time talking and we confirmed that Shelby is in fact not engaged, some guy just made a fake wedding announcement for the fun of it I guess. She didn’t even know about it, so it was a good thing that we called her. After that I came home and hung the pictures on the walls that they’ve been sitting in front of for nearly a week. I had a heck of a time in the living room. I kept hitting things that didn’t seem like studs, so I was scared to keep driving the nail in. I repositioned everything three times on the wall before deciding to go with it for now.

I then read through a lot of the newspapers that have been piling up. I still have more to go through, but I made a good valiant effort at getting through them. I think I’m going to recycle my Soduku stack too as I get two new ones everyday, I probably don’t need to keep all the old ones since we haven’t had a shortage problem for a while now. I watched Meet Dave tonight. I thought it was pretty funny and had a good story line.

Still no news … It really bites that something that feels so right hurts so much.

I’m really not ready for tomorrow, or next week for that matter. I think there is too much unfinished business from this past week to move on. I also know that tomorrow is going to end up being so hectic and long that I’m just not looking forward to it. I think I may have to go back to that stand about taking a break. I think it would be that much harder to to now with the recent events as no one would believe me that they aren’t related. I’ve had the desire for a break since long before I had the desire to breakup a friendship or two. Regardless, i think it’s a mute point as I’m sure I just need to endure, although I could do with a few less things on my plate. Maybe I need to delegate off the coordination with the missionaries to one of my counselors.

More Cookies?

I had a pretty lazy day today. I pretty much just cleaned up my messes from yesterday and hung around the house. In fact, other than to get the mail, I never even left the house and I really don’t think that counts for much!

Sibonet tried to talk me into making chocolate chip cookies this afternoon, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it with snicker-doodles, Krispy Kreme doughnuts and fudge still sitting around. I think we can do it later in the week once some of the other items have disappeared a bit.

I am starting to like how downstairs is looking without all the junk that I’ve moved up to the office. It is kind of nice not seeing a laptop on the kitchen table, all my mail and church stuff everywhere. I’m sure the laptop will come and go, but I think I am on the right track. I was really eyeing a Mac Pro today, but I just don’t have the money for it. I priced out a comparable Dell and it was quite a bit more expensive, so I guess it is still true that you get more bang for your buck with Apple. The problem is they have no middle of the road machines. I don’t think I need a fully loaded Mac Pro to do my pictures, and have a hard time justifying $3,000 just to import and export pictures. My laptop just isn’t cutting it and there doesn’t seem to be much between my MacBook Pro and the Mac Pro in terms of real speed difference. Maybe I’ll have to start saving up and just make do with what I’ve got for now. It would probably help if I used a faster external drive and maybe that will be step 1.

As much as I have been going crazy with all this time off, I’m not sure if I’m looking forward to getting back to the nitty gritty tomorrow. I know it isn’t work tomorrow, but Sunday’s and all the church stuff tends to make it quite a day.

I watched War of the Worlds tonight. I remembered that Nathaniel had loaned it to me and I didn’t remember watching it. Well, as soon as it started playing I remembered the film, so either I did watch it and just forgot to give it back, or I’d seen it before and couldn’t remember it when he asked me if I wanted to watch it. In any event, I’ve seen it now, and now it needs to go back. I didn’t mind watching it again, it’s a decent enough movie and since I had nothing from Netflix, I had to resort to watching something I had in house or risk going out to find something. I actually recorded a few things on TV as a backup plan just in case too.

Oh Christmas Tree

I finally got a Christmas tree today, four days before Christmas. I was able to get it for about 50% off, and only paid $30 for the tree. Of course, I bought a wreath and then bought one for Bouse since he was nice enough to help me get the tree and set it up in the house. I don’t really know what I’m going to do with the wreath, but it looked nice, so I got it for $15.

Bouse was telling me about LED christmas lights. It makes sense, but I had never seen them. We looked at Target tonight and I found some blue ones, but couldn’t find any white ones.

I spent the bulk of the day cleaning as usual. I was able to fix the sprinklers in the front yard, so they are all working again. (Well, one of them needs a new cap, but is working now. I also went around and adjusted many of them so that they aren’t spraying farther than they need to, like into the street. I picked a lot of weeds in the front, and filled almost an entire trash can. I figured since I had gone through so much work and the soil was almost workable, I’d try planing some more seed out there, so maybe I’ll have grass in a few weeks. Or maybe, I’ll continue with the plans to sod the place.

Timmy moved in today. I have a feeling he will be here more often, but that he is one that we will never see.

My parents apparently lost not just their internet today, but also their home phone line which means they can’t even do dial up! Susan said she was just talking on the phone and heard a click. I’m guessing that some accidentally cut the wires or assigned the number to someone else. The one time I tried calling it, I got a busy signal. I wonder if that is because they reported the line bad or if it means something else. In any event, AT&T isn’t sending someone out to look at it until Dec 31! At least it is still this year! Matthew is planning on coming up tomorrow to submit college applications since he can’t do it from home.

Just keep in mind, it could always be worse!

The branch Christmas party was tonight. I got asked to take pictures of everyone with Santa, so that’s about all I did. Greg did an awesome job. Once I finally saw the service auction in progress, I finally understood how it all works. People bring in cans which gives them tickets to bid on services offered by other members of the branch. There were some funny ones and some good ones as well. Tara thought I would totally bid on the dinner for two at Cheesecake Factory courtesy of the Prosser’s. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I didn’t bring any cans with me, so I didn’t get to bid, and I had left before that item went up for auction.

There were a few good ugly sweaters, but for the most part I didn’t see anything too crazy. Some people I thought actually looked good, so i don’t know if that’s what they were going for, or if I just like ugly. I guess we’ll never know!

Stardust

I feel like such a bum, but I know I accomplished a lot today so I will overlook the fact that I never took a shower. I got up this morning and got right to cleaning the stake center and then came home and continued here. I vacuumed a good portion of the house, scrubbed the kitchen floor until the Swiffer Sweeper broke, experimented with table clothes, did some laundry, hung some pictures, rearranged some things and so forth. I feel like it was a big day and I am exhausted from it.

Frank moved out today. I’m really sad to see him go which is kind of strange because he was never here that much. I just feel like I’m going to be missing out things. Maybe I’ll end up seeing more of him now that he doesn’t live here, who knows. I guess this means I have an open room again (not that I didn’t technically to begin with). I also have to figure out what is going on with Geoff as he was supposed to be leaving soon too. It could be nice to have the house to myself again.

I watched Stardust tonight. I wasn’t too sure what was going to come of the movie, but it held my interest and I started to really get into it about half way through. The movie has the typical story line where a boy goes to get something for the woman he thinks he loves and then realizes he loves someone else. I hope I’m not ruining anything for anyone here, this should be common knowledge in these movies. In this instance he goes out to catch a shooting star. I did like the ending of the movie although I must admit i was confused at first.

Oh, I also got some calls done for home teaching. I’m meeting with David in the morning and I hope we can work on getting this bus back on the road. There were lots of things I learned tonight. Sometimes I wonder why it takes so long to figure things out and why people don’t move their records when they move!

Wicked Trip Part 2

Wicked Trip Part 2

Let’s see if I can pick this up where I left off last night. Cheesecake. The Beverly Hills Cheesecake is quite smaller than your typical Cheesecake Factory and you almost walk through the kitchen to get through the restaurant. The surprising part was that there was no wait when we came in even though it was about 5:30. I’ll spare you the details of dinner, you can just know that Krystal felt that her chocolate raspberry cheesecake was better than mine. I actually did try something new: the 30th anniversary cheesecake which is layers of the original cheesecake with Linda’s Fudge Cake. It was pretty good in my opinion and pretty rich. We actually had to call it quits about half way through the cheesecakes and saved them for after the show.

Wicked was amazing. I had been telling Krystal not to expect much from the seats because we got them at the last minute and so forth. I was trying to build her up to expect the last row of the balcony or something. Well, I think my story got blown when they told us what door to go to – door number three, which is downstairs. Oh, maybe it’s just the back row of orchestra. As we were walking she almost nervously said “we keep walking.” I should have said something like we’re just going to check out the orchestra pit when she asked what row we were going to. She was thrilled when we stopped at row F and then slid to almost dead center.

The cast was almost entirely different from what I had seen any other time. The only main character that was the same was Madame Morrible, played by Carol Kane. We had the understudy for Galinda/Glinda. She did a good job. Fiero was pretty good as well, I’d say second best to the actor on the tour, although I wasn’t as critical of his role the first time I saw it. I still thought the sound was a bit off. Maybe the crew is just tired of the production or maybe they don’t have good fill speakers for the front. Everything considered, I’d say that everyone seemed to do a great job in the show. I enjoyed it so much that I quite literally would have come back the next night to see it again. Krystal “is in love with Wicked and wants a remote that can rewind her back to the beginning of WICKED!!!!”

So, the short of it is that I don’t know exactly what made this trip to Wicked so great. I don’t think I could put my finger on one thing in particular. I think overall though this trip tops the chart and has raised the bar for a great evening out. I enjoyed the show and appreciated the company greatly. I would totally do it again this week.

Now, on to today. As usual, I spent most of the day cleaning. As I was vacuuming downstairs near the entry I found these black spots that I hadn’t seen before. When I ran the vacuum over them, they only got bigger and bolder. The best way I can think to describe them is something like dry toner. I don’t know why I would have something like that on my floor, or what it was in reality. Since the vacuum was only making it worse, I got out the carpet cleaner and decided that pretty much everything downstairs needed a good cleaning. Well, hours later the family room, dining room and hallways had been done. The spots came out along with a lot of other dirt as I had to make many a trip to the sink to empty and refill. This was of course in addition to the other cleaning chores I did, so it took most of the day.

Lauren called me about going to some work thin with her. I told her I’d try and be there, but had to figure out some timing things. I got sidetracked with some work things that didn’t work out as they should have, so i wasn’t able to be there right on time. I could never get a hold of her to figure out where I was supposed to be going or what to wear, so it never happened. I was really sad about it as I haven’t seen her for a few weeks now.

I ended up helping out with the movie in the park or drive in movie as they like to call it. They needed some more power cables and other things to make it all work, so that got me out of the house this evening. I got things going, waited for people to show up and then took off. I called Sister Dowden on my way home to check in and ended up going over there to see the new look for her site. Of course that turned into a longer thing and it was about midnight before I got home.

I’ve got lots to do for church tomorrow, so I should probably get to sleep now that I am wound down. Good night and I hope you will join me tomorrow for church. We meet at 1 off the 215 at Los Alamos.

Broken Toe

Broken Toe

Today was kind of an interesting Saturday. I did my usual cleaning stuff this morning, but almost all of it was in Frank’s new room and I didn’t touch much of the rest of the house. Maybe since I feel like I wasn’t home at all it doesn’t need to be cleaned.

Frank, Sabrina and Megan came over around noon and we hung out and got him going. I then went to Bouse’s housewarming party while Sabrina and Frank moved in stuff. I managed to hit my foot on the bottom or side of Bouse’s pool at one point while we were playing volleyball. I guess I didn’t realize that the side of the pool came up so quickly at the bottom. I think I broke one or two of my toes actually in the process. They kind of stung after I did it, but didn’t really hurt. Now when I walk around the house or sometimes even move in the wrong direction there is excruciating pain. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is much one can do about a broken toe other than live it out and take it easy. I have a feeling I’ll be doing a lot more sitting this next week.

I ended up with a quiet evening at home. Melissa didn’t make it and I didn’t feel like inviting anyone else over. I just watched a B movie – It’s a Boy/Girl Thing where this boy and girl change bodies and learn to overcome their problems. Classic story, so nothing new there and the movie wasn’t incredibly entertaining.  It wasn’t bad though, just not the next summer blockbuster.

I made cookies tonight for break the fast – and I finally went to Albertson’s for the first time in weeks. We were starting to run low on milk and I was craving some after the cookies and swimming. I also have been out of raspberry lemonade for weeks. That was the extent of the reason for my trip since I ended up not making dinner tonight. Now that I’m looking at next week, it doesn’t look like I’m going to be around much either, at least not as far as formal dinners go. Monday I’ve got a board meeting and then home teaching, Tuesday the temple, Wednesday we’ll be at Wicked, Thursday is Institute and Friday is out as well (which reminds me I need to find a date!) That’s the whole week! No wonder I’m never cooking dinner anymore.

I spent some time thinking about how we can better do home teaching in the branch today. We seem to have a hard time motivating people to begin with and then the high turnover rate I’m sure doesn’t help. You really can’t get into home teaching when you are only here for a few months, but maybe that is just an excuse and a barrier we need to cross. I realized in pondering that while I have been visiting my people, I too have a long way to go with improving my actual home teaching. I’m anxious to see the changes the new presidency is going to make as to how home teaching is counted and recorded, what changes they will want to make to the home teaching program and if I will even be involved in it after tomorrow which is Zach’s last day.

Wow… too much pondering, it’s tomorrow already and I need to be sleeping. Here’s to fasting for another good month of business!

Cleaning Saturday

Another Saturday spent cleaning. I barely made it to building cleanup this morning and then came home and continued. It seemed like laundry took all day even though it was only the normal three loads. I think they were just larger than normal so it took longer to fold and put away.

I ended up making snickerdoodles for Krystal tonight. I figured she might appreciate them more than a not so perfect picture or something and it was a little more personal than a gift card. I was only able to stay a little while at her surprise party as I already had plans with Lauren & Batch. I was there for the surprise though – and got a good picture, so I guess I should be happy with that.

We watched Mission Impossible III tonight. It was interesting, but certainly not great.

I have a feeling that 6 am priesthood meeting is going to come really early tomorrow morning.

Painting Ideas

I finally got Sib over here tonight. It nearly involved kidnapping her, nevertheless she came peacefully. We started talking about ideas for painting and she realized what a big job it is going to be. With dinner and then being rushed to go home teaching, we didn’t get anything settled, so we will have to finish it up another time.

Work went well today. Time seemed to fly and I can’t really pinpoint what exactly I was able to accomplish. My desk is still a mess…

Sister Dowden, Larilyn, Kenny and I went to the temple Tuesday night. I hadn’t been in a really long time – I think she the last time I went with Sister Dowden a few (two-three) months ago. It was good and so was the Cheesecake that followed. I got home way too late though and have been having a hard time getting up all week. I’ve barely made it to the office on time and haven’t had the leisurely time in the morning I like to have. That also means I haven’t had a chance to dive deeper into scripture study.

Larilyn was over last night and made cheesecake. Lauren and Michelle came and helped us eat the ground beef tacos that needed to be gone ASAP. Again I was up too late.

I was thinking tonight on the way home from home teaching that I could get to sleep early. Then I decided that this was my only chance to carpet clean Geoff’s room before he moves in, so I decided to do that. Then the hallway outside the garage. After the third time I filled the machine up, I decided it was time to call it a night! I’m glad I did it though because it appears that it pulled a lot of dirt out of the carpet. I need to work on doing a room a night or something so I can get the whole house done.

Geoff is moving in tomorrow, so my peace and quiet may be gone. I’m thinking that maybe I’ll start actively looking for more roommates once I’ve got him settled in so I can bring in the cash to keep working on the project list. Sib told me tonight not to get married, just so I could keep both sides of the closet! Oh the joys of sharing…

I’ve got dinner plans with the family tomorrow night and am hoping to get some family history done at the same time although I understand Tom won’t be home. Then I’m hoping to get the first movie night in this week and we’ll see what fun projects the weekend brings.

Housewarming Party

I was happy with the turnout today for the housewarming party. There were some notable people that didn’t show. I’d still say there was about 50 over the course of the day. It was great to see Taugher, although I didn’t really get to find out anything about her – and also Hauser as I haven’t seen them in a long time. Ron & Kathy made the drive down which was great, and we didn’t get a chance to talk either! I’ll have to start having random people over once a month or something for a get together a little of the quieter side.

On the bright side, I got to try out my new carpet cleaner tonight. We managed to get chocolate on the carpet just outside the kitchen where there were already some spots. I ran the cleaner over them and it all seemed to come out just fine. The water was really disgusting, so I’m thinking that the carpet really needs to be cleaned as I had originally planned. I think I figured out that I could do a room before I went to bed and although it wouldn’t be the best time to clean it, it should give it enough time to dry out overnight and then I would barely be on it before leaving for work in the morning.

Geoff expressed some interest in renting a room tonight and we are going to talk about it tomorrow. I’ll have to start developing the rules for housemates so everything is clear from the get go. It certainly will be different with permanent house-guests, but I really could use the money to put toward the other projects – like landscaping – that really need to be done. Dean said we need to do the next BBQ here and Taugher said she’d drive up, so I guess I need to get started on something out back and a BBQ.

I was also really looking forward to seeing Lauren P, but she didn’t make it. I called her on it and she said something came up. She suggested a movie next Saturday. I’ll have to see if I can make that work and actually get her up here.

No Day Off

My plan of taking the day off to get the house ready for the open house tomorrow really didn’t work out. Not only did I have to go in for payroll this morning, but after coming home in the early afternoon, I had to go back after regular hours to meet a customer. I did get some baking done and some cleaning, just not the huge scores I was originally hoping to get done. I should be able to accomplish the vacuuming that should be done tomorrow morning and I would love to clean the rest of the windows if possible.

There really isn’t much too report from today. I talked to Ryan for the first time in a long time today and he actually came over this afternoon to check things out since he may not be able to make it tomorrow. I finally finished Fools Gold tonight as I was eating dinner (at 10 o’clock mind you). I thought it was pretty good – I don’t know exactly why no one else wanted to watch it.

Well, I think I’m going to call it quits there and see if I can get some sleep tonight. I’m not sure that it is going to be cool enough to have the a/c off tonight, but I’m going to try it. In the worst case, I’ll just get up, close all the windows and turn it on, right?

P.S. I don’t suggest doubling the dot’s blondie’s recipe, unless maybe you do it in a really large pan as it gets too think to really cook well. It still tastes good though, just extra gooey!

Cleaning Floors

I had fun today cleaning floors. I got a steam cleaner to do the carpets, and it also said it did hard surfaces. I ended up spending the afternoon cleaning all the hard floors in the house. I didn’t think it was doing that good of a job at first, but I noticed the water was fairly dirty. Later I realized walking around that the floors felt really clean. I don’t know what that is worth, but I had been noticing that my feet were getting really dirty walking around the house. I’ve vacuumed so many times that I figured there was just dirt that didn’t want to come out of the carpet and such so it needed a deep cleaning. I got the only Hoover model that they had at Best Buy, and used my 10% off coupon for moving on it.

The family came over for dinner tonight. Well, they came over to eat Papa John’s pizza. I have a feeling my dad really likes having a place he can come and eat it and I think I’m going to be seeing them every three weeks. They also brought some stuff from the house – as I figured they would – that I promptly threw away most of. I can’t figure out if the Apple posters are worth anything. I tried searching online for ipod lisa poster and such regarding the 2004 remake of the 1984 Lisa poster/ad and couldn’t find anything on eBay or really much talking about it. I guess if I make an Apple museum I’ll want to keep at least one of them – and if I put them all in one container they wouldn’t take up that much room.

Kenny and I watched Definitely Maybe tonight. I thought the movie had a good premise and liked the story telling of his life, and the interactions from the daughter. It kind of reminded me of Princess Bride with the story telling. While not a fan of some of the things they did in the movie, I thought it was funny how intertwined the lives of these women were and how you supposedly couldn’t see what was coming – and definitely didn’t know who her mom was. It was clear early on how the movie would end, as with most. It was enjoyable through the end though and that is what matters.

I discovered the other night that I have a broken sprinkler line. I’d like to say the neighbors probably did it when they poured concrete, but i can’t be certain. I picked up the stuff to start digging today and maybe can get out there and get going on Monday night. I need to start working on a food list for the housewarming party next weekend so I can start doing some form of planning ahead.

Cleaning

Cleaning

Not too much of any interest to report today. I spent the morning cleaning – I got all the window sills cleaned downstairs and most of them upstairs. I also vacuumed the living spaces of the house which is a large accomplishment of its own these days. I can tell the house is getting cleaner, I really need to now start on actually unpacking some more of the boxes and find real homes for things.

I went shopping this afternoon. I was going to head up to the outlets to get some kitchen stuff, but wasn’t really feeing motivated to go do it by myself. I ended up just going to Home Depot, Lowe’s, the office and Vons. I started looking at all the things that I really need to hurry up and eat in my fridge and pantry and discovered there is a lot more food in the house than I thought. I’ve had some lunch meat sitting in the fridge for a full week now and the strawberries were hours away from death so I made smoothies with what was left.

I watched Underdog tonight. I wasn’t expecting much; it turned out to be a cute movie.

I picked out some ceiling fans today so they can be installed next week. It will be nice to be able to cut down on the air conditioning a little bit as I’m sure my first bill is going to be outrageous! Too bad I won’t have a full month to really see the difference between fans and no fans, but I’m sure I can do the math and get a good idea of how quickly the fans will pay off.

I’m thinking about having the housewarming party on the 2nd of August, three weeks from now. It’s a Saturday, I’m thinking we’ll start in the late afternoon and just let people come and go as they please up till about 9. That can be my motivation to keep unpacking and getting projects done and can also be a promotion for rooms for rent. So, mark your calendars and plan on coming or let me know if we need to change the date.

Wow, things got kind of crazy last week. We didn’t end up closing until late Thursday, as I kind of imagined to begin with. I’m still not happy I signed something saying I would be in Tuesday when I didn’t get in till Thursday, but this is all past now and I should move on.

Batch and Bouse helped me move Thursday. I was all packed up and ready for them when they came and we knocked it out in under two hours. Bouse did a great job loading the truck and we could have fit everything in a 14 ft box van the way he packed it all! We did some shopping, worked on getting the garage fire door replaced, ate and some other misc stuff while we waited, hoping it would cool down and for someone to confirm that we had at least funded, if not recorded yet. We finally got the funding notice at lunch and got the call that we had recorded just as we were getting ready to unload the truck.

The first night in the house was interesting. The AC upstairs didn’t want to work. I had Gardner Co. come out and take a look at it in the morning and of course it worked fine. He thinks that maybe it is something wrong with the ball bearings in the fan on the compressor. It seems like it doesn’t want to work when it is hot. Well isn’t that when I need it to work? That made the first night interesting, but it has been working great since then.

I became a locksmith when I had to essentially disassemble the front door to get the new lock on. I’m glad I was finally able to get it to work because at one point I couldn’t get the dead-bolt off and I’m sure I had broken it beyond the point at which it would have functioned. Once I got things figured out, I was able to do the other two locks in a matter of minutes – although they functioned like they were supposed to instead of not wanting to come apart like the front door did. I did decide to drive to Hemet to get the Medeco locks, and I still have my front door one on order due to a custom color issue.

I’ve been to Costco at least three times to get stuff. I filled up Bouse’s truck once and my car twice with stuff. The pantry is getting stocked slowly as well as the fridge and freezer. The fridge came on Friday and is beautiful. I had a heck of a time shopping at Albertson’s – actually just the self checkout was a hassle. I don’t think I will do that again with a full cart. To top it off, I forgot to type in my phone number for the preferred card savings which means I got totally ripped off on what I bought!

It was great having a five minute drive to church this morning. As I was getting ready to walk out the door I remembered I hadn’t read yet and decided to search for something to read. I ended up at Mormon 9, reading about worthiness. A few minutes later when I walked into branch council, President Mattson asked us to turn to Mormon 9! That was kind of interesting. I started getting antsy towards the end of priesthood this afternoon. I haven’t been sitting for that long for a few days now and while it felt good at first, it was starting to bother me.

I’ve been cleaning like mad. My hand hurts from vacuuming, washing surfaces, mopping and killing ants. The house is starting to come together. Some of the boxes have been emptied, there are clothes in my closet, food in the pantry, dishes in the cabinets. I couldn’t find my silverware after moving and it also seems like I am missing some of my glasses. Either we lost them in the move, didn’t bring them or they were stolen out of the shed with the mower a few years ago. I’m starting to lean towards the stolen aspect, although they could easily have been left in the shed and covered up with other items. I went out and bought some new silverware, and will probably need to get some more glasses and flatware soon.

It has been kind of quiet around the house. I’ve had music going almost nonstop, but that doesn’t take away the loneliness. I almost feel like I need to be listening to the radio or something so I at least can hear another human voice that hasn’t completely been prerecorded. I think I’m starting to understand why people have pets.

Hopefully my new sectional couch should be coming tomorrow. I can’t decide if I should try and get it reversed from what they are probably sending me so the longer side can go down the wall instead of across the back or if I should just take it. There are advantages both ways. From looking online, it looks like it is also a sleeper, but I didn’t know that. I guess I should just be happy that I won’t be carrying it in as I paid for in house delivery. It sounds like my kitchen table won’t be in for a few weeks though. I’m hoping to order furniture for the rest of the house soon – at least the dining room and probably living room this week. Sister Rodriguez has some catalogs I can look through to get stuff at close to wholesale cost. I think Mandi said she would be available tomorrow to look at furniture, so we may just have to see. I do need to get some (office) work done tomorrow, but maybe can make it a half day or something.

I’m still not sure what to do with the upstairs bonus room although I am leaning towards theater. That will take away the hassle of pulling wires downstairs which will be nice. I’m definitely calling about the ceiling fans tomorrow and hope that I will be able to get them installed late this week. In addition to the fans, it will be nice to actually have light at night instead of relying on lights from adjoining hallways or bathrooms to work. I’m trying to decide where to put the fans and am almost thinking of just asking him (the electrician) to go to town and prewire all the rooms. I might not need one in the living room as I think that would just look strange.

Can’t Sign Anymore

If I never have to sign my name again it won’t be too soon. i think my hand still hurts from having to sign all those documents! I signed all the closing escrow docs today. It took almost an hour and a half to go through the ream of paper. She made me sign everything with my full name which I never sign either, so that added extra confusion to the ordeal. The docs I signed seemed to indicate that escrow would close Monday and I would take possession Tuesday. That seems a little fast for me to believe, but I won’t complain if we close early.

I think the ham radio class went well this morning. We didn’t get through all the questions, only about 3/4 of them so either I need to talk less or we need to extend the class. I wouldn’t really want to go much longer than we did, but maybe it could turn into a two day class with the exam on the second day after we finish up and so forth in the morning. I was also thinking about offering the class at my house instead of the stake center so we could do lunch there and maybe be a bit more comfortable. I could argue it might be too comfortable, but it could save me the effort of lugging things to the church and maybe they could actually see a bit more in the house situation.

i came home and worked on continuing my packing & cleaning. It still continues to amaze me how much stuff I have kept for years that should be have disposed of a long time ago. I also found it interesting how much easier it is to throw things away when you’re moving than it is on a regular basis. When you have to think about packing, moving, unpacking and continuing to store something, it suddenly seems a lot less valuable. I am slowly making progress, although it seems like a task that is going to take forever. I’m sure once I actually have a date confirmed or as we get closer it will start really coming together.
