Our Love Story

Well, it has certainly been some time since I’ve taken the opportunity to write at all. In fact, ever since I met Megan I haven’t been so good at writing – I guess it’s just that we’ve been so busy and always had other things to do.

People have been asking for nearly a year now, and Cheesecake Factory finally made the incentive for me to write our love story down and submit it in their contest. Some of this has been covered, and some hasn’t, so I’m just going to try and get it all here in one spot for good!

Megan and I really met when Kenny invited her over to my house for movie night. I had some friends coming over to watch Twilight when it first came out on DVD. I should back up to say that we had kind of met a few weeks earlier at church, when we actually sat next to each other, but didn’t even so much as say a word to each other. The following week we spoke briefly at the Dowden’s, but the ice wasn’t really broken until the night she was here at the house. We started talking and I played her Brad Paisley’s new song, “Then.” I remember that Kenny and I were playing with iTunes DJ and she had started requesting a number of Brad Paisley songs, so I had to see if she had heard his latest. She instantly liked it. One of the other girls that was here, Ashley, was going to be having her birthday Tuesday and we were going to be going to Disneyland. I invited Megan to join us for dinner at Cheesecake Factory before.

When Tuesday came we met up at Cheesecake and then to my surprise she decided to join us afterward at Disneyland. We stayed up way too late that night and spent most of the evening talking. We started texting on our way home that night and the volume only went up from there. I was spending that week at the San Diego Temple for our semi-annual offering in righteousness where we spend most of the day there. So, I was up early the next morning and she was up early for work and we started talking each morning and each night on my way home from the temple. (It’s an hour long drive.) That Saturday I couldn’t decide if i was going to go to the temple or if I was going to call my week done and do something different. One way or another we ended up going to Disneyland – and of course going to Cheesecake Anaheim (with Teal as our waitress).

As what seemed to be par for our relationship, we were out way too late, especially considering the lack of sleep we’d had all week. Megan was going to spend the night at a mutual friend’s house – Sally & Bill (who incidentally had basically schemed this whole relationship) – but we didn’t get there till 2:15 Sunday morning! Unfortunately, they had left the house locked up so we had to try to break in instead of waking them up. After about a half hour of trying all sorts of things and talking about not wanting to wake people up, we finally called her mom who called to wake up Sally. That sure gave us interesting stories to be told the next day at church as I was currently serving in branch council with Bill.

After church on Sunday, she came back to my house where we sat and talked the evening away. We went to branch prayer came back to my house and threatened to have a pillow fight. At some point the evening ended and I decided to give her a night off on Monday. I guess I was worried that she would figure out that too much of me was a bad thing and I would scare her off. That Tuesday we were texting at work and she had eaten something spicy and thought she was going to die, or something to that effect. I asked her what she wanted to do for her last night here on earth – i.e. her last wish – and she couldn’t really come up with something. While I would have chosen Cheesecake, maybe we had just had too much, and she had mentioned this other restaurant Ancho’s previously. I suggested we try Ancho’s and then go go-carting, something else she had mentioned previously. Well, while we were planning all this Kenny showed up at my house, so he came along for the evening as well.

We had a great time and again were out too late. We were already planning on going to Disneyland the following day, April 1st. I actually had a friend who suggested the outing, so I started inviting people, including Megan. She told me that she had the day off from work. Well, long story short, it ended up just being the two of us at Disneyland that day. Since it was April fools day, I decided to tell facebook that she and I were married – and also to see how she would take it. I told her that facebook was being weird and that she needed to check it before we left. I don’t know what she thought – other than I was crazy – but she decided we could be married for the day and confirmed the relationship. We later started making up crazy stories that we were having our Disney fairy tale wedding that day and so forth. The one thing I regret doing was not buying her some kind of ring from Disneyland and putting it on her finger that day. We both were getting phone calls asking about what was going on. I don’t remember all that happened that day, but it was the day that I knew. It was also the second consecutive day that we would always see each other from there on out.

The following day we had no plans to be together, but at the last minute she came down for institute, a scripture study class we have at church. That was the day that I knew my feelings weren’t completely off base and she must have felt something back. We already had plans that Friday night to watch a movie, so she came down. That weekend was our church’s general conference where we watch various sessions on television, so she stayed in Murrieta so we could watch conference together. She invited me to dinner with her family on that Saturday, so we went there and I went to priesthood session with her father. We stayed and played games where I got to meet the whole family. Talk about intimidating: They were asking me all the questions!

Sunday we were back watching conference and we had plans to take Monday off. I was still worried about scaring her away. Well, another Cheesecake fanatic fan of mine called me up and said, “let’s go to Cheesecake,” the four magic words to which I immediately reply, “Let’s go!” I, of course, called up Megan and informed her that she was not going to be getting the night off after all. We haven’t had a night off since that Tuesday, thankfully, to date.

Back when I was trying to fulfill her last wish the previous week, she had mentioned something she doesn’t even remember. Brad Paisley’s Then was playing in the car and she said something to the effect of how she’d love to hear him sing it live. At the time, Brad was going to be playing at Stagecoach festival and I was thinking that would be a great place to propose. I guess my timeline wasn’t fast enough though and I got the hint that week to speed things up. We looked at some rings so I got an idea of what she wanted and decided Friday to call Zales and tell them to get the ring ready. I had that ring burning a hole in my pocket Friday night, all day Saturday when we went to Sea World and then Sunday morning. I had planned an Easter egg hunt for Megan Sunday and told her about it earlier.

We went to her parents for church Easter Sunday morning, and then had brunch at their house with the whole family. We rushed back to Murrieta to go to the singles ward here and I told her that I needed to swing by the house to get my stuff together. She wanted just to stay in the car, but I told her that I needed a few minutes and it would be a good time for her to do her Easter egg hunt. I had made most of the eggs fairly easy to find, and they all had a slip of paper in them. Most of them were lyrics to our song, Then. When she put them in the right order, it spelled out the location of the remaining egg. It spelled out pancake. So, she looked in the fridge and didn’t find an egg. Then she looked in the pantry and still no egg. She was starting to give up when she realized the pancake griddle was on the counter, not it’s normal spot. She looked all around it and didn’t find anything. I asked if she knew it had a drawer at which point she started pulling it out. By the time she had the egg opened, I was down on one knee behind her. I asked her to be my wife as she pulled the ring out of the egg.

Needless to say, we were way late for church. And there wasn’t anything that I needed from the house, other than for that ring to be on her finger and not burning a hole in my pocket! She totally wasn’t expecting it because I had led her to believe it was coming in a few more weeks and she knew I wouldn’t pop the question until I had asked her dad. What she didn’t know was that I had been trying to work up the courage to ask him – and find the time to do so – all morning long! I lingered and stalled at their house that morning trying to get him alone. It wasn’t done the way I planned it, but it worked out just fine. (I was planning to ask him the following week at the Redlands Temple.)

So, we really met March 21st and were engaged April 12th. There were a few more trips to Cheescake Factory over the coming months (I had the help of Discover Card in figuring out our timeline of dining at the Cheesecake Factory.) It was pretty much non-stop tlll the wedding. Megan went looking for dresses the next weekend while I was at a sealing, then I went to the Redlands temple with her parents, where I was planning on asking for her hand in marriage. We took a trip to Arizona to visit my grandma (and get a box she had been holding for me). During the trip we went horseback riding at the OK Corral. Then we were taking engagement pictures in Laguna Beach – followed, of course, by the original Cheesecake Factory that I had wanted to go to for a LONG time in Redondo Beach.

The next weekend we were shopping for cakes and then we were off to Pennsylvania and West Virginia for a week where we visited the Cheesecake Factory in Pittsburgh and Brad Paisley’s hometown of Glen Dale, WV. May 30th we were back in Redondo Beach at the Cheesecake Factory after going to the Point Fermin Lighthouse to scatter my mom’s ashes, something else I had been meaning to do for a long time. Her bridal shower was the following weekend, followed by her endowment. On the last free weekend she took her bridal portraits and we were busy with other things.

We were married June 26th in the Los Angeles Temple. Unfortunately, there was no Cheesecake involved, but we did stop at Chic-fil-a for a snack on our way home. Our reception was the following day and on our way to our honeymoon, you can bet our first stop – and our first real out to dinner meal was at the Cheesecake Factory Pasadena.

We had a lovely honeymoon in Santa Barbara at the Fess Parker Doubletree Resort. We spent a few days there exploring before going further north, but called it and came home early. (We were probably running low on Cheesecake after all that wedding cake.)

There’s lots to say from there, but I think I’m going to quit while I’m ahead today.

The Game is Over

Wow. It seems like it is so hard to find the time to write, even just to sleep with all that has been going on lately. What I really feel bad about though is that this is the time when I really need to be writing about all that has been going on. This is the biggest and best time of my life to this point and yet I’m not doing a good job of recording it. I haven’t even been tweeting much because I’ve just been so fully engrossed in Megan that I don’t want any distractions.

Things have really been going great. It pains me to be away from her, and the same is true of her for me. We’ve just been so busy with wedding plans and trying to have some fun on the side. We went two weekends ago to Arizona to get that box from my grandma and had a great time. I took her horseback riding Saturday morning which was just great and we had an awesome time just hanging out with each other and not having to be without the other. This past weekend we took our engagement pictures which turned out great and then went to Cheesecake Factory in Redondo Beach before meeting up with some family members of hers. We then met Ashley and Kenny at Disneyland.

We’ve been working on registering for wedding gifts and have now done that at Crate & Barrel, Target and Macy’s. They are all still works in progress, but at least we are getting somewhere. We just went to Victoria Garden’s to register at Crate & Barrel last night and went to the Cheesecake Factory there. That’s two new Cheesecake’s in like five days. And we went to Rancho Mirage on our way to Arizona! What is there not to love about a girl that takes me to new Cheesecake Factory’s?

President Clegg told us when we met with him a few weeks ago “the game is over” and I’ve been pondering that for some time now. It really is. There are no what-ifs for me. It’s a done deal and I’m ready to be sealed to Megan for time and all eternity in 49 days! I’m so glad that we moved the wedding up and I can’t possibly even begin to imagine how crazy and tired each of us would be if this had dragged out any longer.

Great Day at the Temple

I really need to get to sleep… I’m looking at less than five hours before I need to get up, but that’s about double what I got last night!

Things I’ve learned recently:

1. You can’t just go to Disneyland and ride one ride. We left an hour after closing (11) last night, so I didn’t get home till 1 this morning and was up at 4 for the temple!

2. Apparently Cynthia and I look like we’re married. It happened again today. I think I counted three separate times I was questioned in some way. Once by an officiator who when he asked if we were married and we told him no, he then asked if we had a date set yet! Then there were two if not three members of the stake that asked me about her. No wonder no one dates anyone! It’s not the “kids” that are thinking about marriage, it’s everyone else!

3. Five sessions is a lot to go through in one day with less than three hours of sleep.

4. I love turning my phone off and spending an entire day without a cell phone strapped to my side.

5. Sleep is good. I’m going there now!

Turning into a Pumpkin

I have so much to write about, but I have been so busy I haven’t had the time. I really don’t have the time tonight, but I feel that I need to touch on a few things or just outline them so that I can write about them later.

I went to Rascal Flatts last weekend. It ended up being more of a last minute thing where I just bought a bunch of tickets and hoped for the best. We had a good time – and it took some coaxing, but I got Sibonet to come. I think she had a blast. Everyone else had a good time as well. There was a total of 14 of us, so I hope they all did, but I wasn’t with them most of the time. I got seats for Sibonet and I a bit closer to the front than the lawn seats I bought for everyone else.

The LA Temple was wonderful. I loved doing an endowment there and hope we can go back more frequently. I couldn’t get over how big the ordinance rooms where. I think we figured they could seat about 450. How great would it be to see them all filled someday! I think I need to take that goal to President Smith and see what he could do with that.

We’ve been pushing hard for attendance at the offering in righteousness this week. It sounds like we’re going to have a great turnout. We have just over 80% now for the first time of endowed members with current temple recommends in the stake. Only about 50% of the current recommend holders in the branch are attending, but most other wards at running above 80% committed.

I’ve been out and staying up way too late the last week especially. With either people here or trips to the temple or Disneyland, it’s just been crazy. I had Megan and Ashley over last Monday and we were up way too late playing and talking. It was about 11:30 when i got to sleep I think and then I was up at 3:45 for the temple the next morning. Josh and I went down and did our thing and then came back up with the intent of accomplishing things and getting in a nap. Well, I accomplished a few things, but definitely not the nap. We went back down for baptisms and had a great time. There were a lot of people that showed up to join us for our session which worked out well as we only had about 14 people, but they made it get to the 24 we were supposed to have!

I officially met this sister that i’ve seen in the temple many times before. I couldn’t figure out if I knew her from somewhere before or if she was just so familiar to me from there. She said she comes often so that’s probably why I recognized her. Her name is Wendy and she’s from Carlsbad. It actually seems like I’ve been meeting a few new people lately. Through the various trips and activities I’ve been introduced to some other new people. Megan J is a friend of the Prosser’s they’ve been bringing for a few weeks, but we never really got to talking until she came over last night with Kenny to watch Twilight. She seems like a great girl and I regret not getting to know her earlier – as I’m sure I do with most people.

Batch and I had decided to go to Disneyland on Thursday night since it was his only night off. We got Kenny and Ashley to go with us and we had a blast. As we were getting out of the car Batch told me that it wasn’t going to get cold enough to need a sweatshirt so i left mine in the car. Well as we were walking around California Adventure I started to get a bit cold. While we were eating dinner I decided I was freezing, so I had to go get a sweatshirt. i figured I’d buy a new one instead of going back to the car – you can never have enough sweatshirts. Well, i found this one that I kind of liked, but then I realized that it was a bit girly. I kept looking at other ones, but didn’t find any that really jumped out to me. There was one other one that I showed to the group, but Ashley pointed out it looked a lot like one I already had. They said the other one was way too girly for me and that I shouldn’t get it. Well, at that point, I decided I was going for it and went and tried it on. Apparently the sizes are a bit different for the girls than they are for the guys as the XXL is a little tight on me. Getting it off is a bit interesting. Well, as I was checking out I guess Kenny got a little crazy. As I finished checkout out, he was standing there with a sweatshirt and said something to the effect of “oh no, you’re not going to one up me.” He proceeded to buy one with tinkerbell on it that is clearly a girls sweatshirt with a low cut V in the front and Disneyland on the rear! We had a blast walking around and Ashley was just cracking up!

We went back the next night as Jordyn wanted to go, but couldn’t go Thursday. She went to use up the second day of Maegan’s pass that she wasn’t going to be able to use. Jordyn took the opportunity to upgrade it to a season pass, so we’ll be going back more often. Well, Kenny and I brought the sweatshirts again and had a blast. Jordyn brought a pink backpack so of course Kenny had to put that on along with her glasses. We got some great pictures. Jordyn was also able to talk Sibonet into coming which was great! I’m so glad she was able to come. My feet were so tired after the first night that the second night was a bit rough and we gave up about 11:30.

Tonight I was up late talking online. It seems like there is always some reason that I can’t get to bed on-time, not that I wouldn’t do it again. It’s all been great fun!

I know I’m missing lots of things that I should be writing about, but I really need to get to sleep before I turn into a pumpkin in a few minutes here.

Happy Not So Birthday To Me

Well let’s see. I didn’t end up making it to Disneyland on Thursday. When the morning came around, sleep was sounding so good and since no one had volunteered to accompany me, I figured I’d take what I could. I would have loved to have gone and bought some Disney stuff, but I guess I’ll have to wait till next year if they’re still doing it.

It was a long day at work, but all went fairly well. The show went off without a hitch and everyone was happy with our work. I hope we’re able to get some more business out of the deal.

I ended up sleeping in a bit Friday morning as well and tried to get all sorts of things done in the office. Unfortunately it felt like I didn’t get much done. I was planning on going in today to get taxes done – or started – but I ended up with so much to do at home that I never left the house.

Last night I just kind of took it easy at home. The missionaries asked if we could meet to fill one of their spots that someone had backed out of, so we did that and then I watched the double header of 24. Before they came over I spent about an hour figuring out how to get the audio out of my DVR. I thought it would be easy to take the optical out, but apparently it is encoded and not just a PCM stream or something and the MacBook couldn’t recognize it. I tried all sorts of things to just get the stereo audio through and it just wouldn’t work. I finally came across a way through firewire to have the MacBook emulate a DVCR and then was able to capture the video and audio feed through VLC. It’s a bit hairy, but it worked and I was able to get the new Rascal Flatts song “Here Comes Goodbye” at least temporarily while I wait for them to release their new album.

I think I’m going to get the company to signup for Promo Only so I can get these new songs sent to me without having to wait for the album. The service doesn’t cost that much more than the songs themselves really do and while I won’t like them all, it could be beneficial in times like this. That will also help me at work to have the most current songs even if they are ones that I don’t particularly care for myself.

I spent the bulk of today cleaning. I finally got caught up on all the newspapers. Well, the big stacks are gone. There are a handful of sections that I saved to read longer stories in or for reference. I decided to toss all the sections I had been saving for Soduku since it seems that Maegan isn’t coming over anytime soon to play a bunch and I get two new ones each and everyday. I finally cleaned the carpet in the family room which had a few stains that I’ve found recently on it. It looks like the big stuff came out which is good. I still have a hard time believing sometimes how dirty the water is coming out of the carpet when it looks so clean. I guess it just goes to show that you never really are done cleaning. There are still lots of things that I need to do, but I’m very happy with the kitchen and family room being clean again. I also got my shower much cleaner than it was and did laundry today.

I had some extra chicken left over from Monday which I needed to cook or freeze so Ashley and I decided to make some chicken alfredo. I think it was the best I’ve ever made. The chicken was very tender and the seasoning worked out quite well. I’m actually kind of looking forward to those leftovers even though I know they won’t be as good as it was tonight.

Lauren had talked about possibly coming over tonight, but I never heard anything from her, so we went with plan B (above). Ashley and I then watched My Girl. I had forgotten how much I love that movie. The music is so great and I love so many of the lines and plots.

Well, I guess I’d best be off to sleep so I can make it though this heck of a day tomorrow.

P.S. Did I mention that Alison called me aged the other night?

Waitin’ on a Woman

Well, to give you an idea of how things have been going: my laptop was so dead that the led on the battery wouldn’t even flash anymore to identify itself as dead. It has been over a month since I’ve journaled/blogged and I’m honestly just kind of happy that I was able to remember the password to MacJournal! If it makes a difference, I think last time I wrote was just after the last time I went to Disneyland and then I just went there last night so I’m writing again. I’ve actually been thinking for a while that I’ve needed to blog, I just haven’t found the time or energy. I’ll be honest, the laptop has stayed in the vehicle many nights lately. It has been kind of nice to just go places and not have to take fifteen bags (ok two) with me everywhere I go including in and out of the house every-time.

If I had to sum up the last month, I’m not sure if I could. I wish I could say I’ve been waitin’ on a woman, but I think that is primarily only tonight that I’ve been really doing that. I bought a new truck, if I may call it that, getting close to a month ago. There has just been too many times that I couldn’t do something with the Camry so I decided to upgrade. I’ve been thinking about buying a truck for a few months now – probably somewhat after I discovered that I only drive four miles to work each day and not the thousands of miles I used to drive a month. I was planning this as an addition, but I’ve quickly learned that having two vehicles is a major pain. Everything is always in the other one and I’ve done the math to find that unless I’m going to start driving a lot more or the price of gas is going to skyrocket (beyond what it did last year), it doesn’t make economic sense for me to keep the Camry. it’s too bad because I really like the Camry. I’ve actually made a few calls to dealers and haven’t been seeing much good news, so I may end up selling it private party.

I’ve found myself very busy at work lately. Batch was gone one week and that just about did me in. I told him that he should never expect to have another week off – or if he does that he needs to plan on taking me with him! I’m very, very glad that things have been so busy at work. There is definitely room for improvement, but right now I’m happy for anything and everything we can get that allows us to continue working and paying the bills.

It seems that I’ve been pulling away from many of the activities of church lately. I don’t know if I’m just too busy with other things or burnt out or what, but it has really been a drag to get me anywhere other than our Sunday meetings. I didn’t even go to the Dowden’s at all last week and only went to branch prayer because I walked across the street. Never fear, the church is still true; in fact I almost feel like I’m doing better in many areas (not reading) than I have for a while. I guess I’ve just been practicing selective neglect in order to accomplish the greater tasks at hand. Speaking of neglect, I really need to come up with a lesson plan for priesthood tomorrow. In my pondering today I was actually thinking that maybe I need a break from the branch. I don’t know where I would go (Alta Murrieta Ward? another singles branch?), or for how long it would be, I just feel I need a break. Maybe I should graduate from the branch?

I’ve been meeting with the missionaries for the past few weeks which I really enjoy. It is great spending time with them and I hope they are getting something out of it. I’ve been trying to find people for them to teach: members or non-members, I just haven’t been doing so well. I just need one new person per week for them to constantly have five people to teach, yet I can’t seem to come up with it.

I can’t make it sound like I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had any free time, cause that would be a lie. It just seems that the free time is so few and far between. Sometimes that can be good, but sometimes I feel that the busyness only leads to more fits of depression if you will. In fact, I can’t think of much free time I’ve had and things have been running away from me that need to get done lately. I have had a letter from Tara on my desk for at least three weeks now and I haven’t responded to her. Some of that is due to a lack of time, but I think some of it is also due to a lack of having a clue what to tell or inspire her with. In so many ways it seems that I’ve been leading a mindless life lately.

On the other hand I have been pondering some things quite a bit. One has had me completely preoccupied all day today and for a good portion of this week.

Last week we (ward) went to the temple – on Tuesday after I had come back from the temple of course. Talk about putting those extra miles on the new car! It had been closed for two weeks so I guess I was just making up for the lack of going there the past two weeks.

This Wednesdsay we had been trying to find something to do that was different as Maegan wanted to get out of her house (problem of working from home). I was trying to find a fun new activity, but couldn’t come up with anything based on what time it was and where we were so she ended up coming over to play Phase 10 after kidnapping Larilyn. Well, on her way here her car started making a funny noise. We traced it down to her air conditioning and set her an appointment to have it looked at the next morning. Thursday, I go down to Escondido to pick her up and bring her home to get the Camry.

Friday we went to Disneyland. Batch came along and we met Marie and one of her friends there. It was such a weird night. I didn’t eat but one churro (which I shared), I didn’t ride space mountain (it broke just as Marie was going to get on), didn’t even go into California Adventure, so there was no Tower of Terror or Screaming and yet those few hours which went late into the night were some of the best I’ve ever had at Disneyland.

So it was about 2:30 when I finally got home. I awoke about 8 this morning and Maegan and I went down to Escondido to get her car back. Haven’t really done anything else today other than finally blog!

Sorry for the short thoughts in some places – I need to get to sleep. More to come soon, I promise.

Goodbye Christmas

I’m up late tonight kind of waiting for the bedspread to finish in the dryer. I guess I knew I shouldn’t have put it in, but I decided to do it anyway. Larilyn came over and took down the Christmas decorations tonight, thanks out to her for her kindness to help old Scrooge out. I know we were a few weeks behind in taking it down, but the tree was actually looking pretty good until just this week when I stopped watering it. It looks really empty now where it used to be and I feel like I need to find something to fill the void.

I went to the temple this morning for Craig’s endowment. It was fun to go with some people and meet other down there. I guess it just goes to show that we need to get together more often for trips to the temple. I actually think I had a harder time getting up this morning at 7 than I do Tuesday mornings at 4. I was so exhausted after all the walking yesterday and then being out late that it took it’s toll on me. When we got home from the temple I had to just sit and relax for a while. I spent some time over at the Dowden’s this afternoon as I had to go and fetch my phone back and we sat talking for a while.

Things went well at NAMM Thursday and Friday. Friday we got there kind of late and ended up paring in the Disneyland structure and walking. That seemed like a good plan since we got to save $12, but it was a bit of a walk. That probably wouldn’t have been as big of a deal if we didn’t continue walking and standing around once we got into the convention. And then after the show we went to Disneyland till they kicked us out at 10. That made for a long couple of days.

I decided to lug the camera around the show floor on Friday so I could snap some pictures. I was hoping to find some good products and maybe get some pictures I could use for something at work. Since we walked directly to Disneyland, I ended up having it there too which is something I’ve never done before. It actually worked alright carrying it on the rides, although it certainly meant that I was holding on to it for dear life. I did get to snap some pictures in the park though and on some of the rides. I was courteous enough to not use the flash unlike many of the other people with cameras.

Oh, we got to go see Teal (think Cheesecake) on Thursday night. That was great and has been long overdue. We were thinking about going back Friday, but she was a breaker so it wasn’t clear if we could see her or not. She excused us from coming Friday night, but I made a promise to come back soon.

I don’t think I have any major findings or revelations for today, so I’m going to call it quits and get to bed finally!

Hello 2009

Ready or not, here it is. The year 2009 is upon us. I’m not so sure I was ready and I’m not so sure it is off to the best of starts.

Let’s count the stupidity so far this year. I stayed up too late bringing in the new year on the computer and listening to my neighbor’s party till 2 in the morning when I finally went to sleep. I then got up too early and went to Disneyland with all the other crazies. To finish the first day, we rode splash mountain at 8 o’clock at night when it was 53 degrees. Let’s just say it was a cold ride home and ended the night for me with a splash. At least I got a free shower out of the deal. I then got up and went to work the next day. The girls said they wanted to work. The girls weren’t there. It was just me.

I got a great idea to go see the Rose Parade floats on display. Too bad they were only open 9-5 on Friday and Saturday. As I was working (the only one mind you) on Friday, that didn’t work out so well. As since I had to work a wedding today, there wasn’t enough time to go this morning. P.S. I learned that it wasn’t necessary for me to have worked this weeding, so I’m a little confused about that one.

I haven’t been reading my scriptures enough or anything along those lines lately, so I guess it’s a good thing I didn’t make that a resolution for this year. Maybe I should…. I have been enjoying reading the newspaper very much lately though. I had missed it and am so glad that I subscribed. I really am turning into my father in so many ways. I even found myself saving Tuesday’s paper when I didn’t have a chance to read it. If anyone ever sees large stacks of newspapers in my house that are waiting to be read, please throw them away for me.

Oh, yeah, so back to the wedding that I didn’t have to work today. If I hadn’t been scheduled for that, I probably would be hanging out in Idaho having fun this weekend. That also would have meant I wouldn’t have been at work yesterday. So, pretty much, it’s all the girls fault. Yep, I’m going to blame it all on them!

I’m kind of looking forward to getting to work now that all these holidays are over. I feel so lost with all these random days off and no consecutive days in the office. I think we are making progress on some fronts and I am hoping to have a very good year.

Well, before it gets to be tomorrow, I’m going to call it a night. Best wishes to all for 2009!

I finally got to to go Disneyland yesterday. Marie and I had been talking about going for a while and finally found a suitable evening. I ended up talking Sibonet into going and then her sister, Sabrina, and friend, Eric, ended up meeting us there. We got there a bit early and then Marie met up with us after we went on screaming and the tower of terror.

We had a good time and stayed there way too late. The park didn’t close till midnight, and we rode big thunder mountain railroad three times in a row until they kicked us off at closing. We nearly froze to death. Next time I will definitely bring my gloves in with me and maybe a jacket in addition to the sweatshirt I was wearing. It was at times like on big thunder when I really thought we were going to get frostbite or something. It wasn’t much above freezing actually.

Dotting the Map » How to do Disneyland in a day

Hilarye says you can do Disneyland in one day! That’s probably true if you set your mind to it and are willing to spend a long day. I like to just go occasionally for shorter periods of time so as not to run myself into the ground.

I was always under the impression that you couldn’t get a new fast pass until your current one expired. Maybe I’ll have to take some more chances and see what kind of swiping I can do. I did just learn the other day (from Larilyn) that you apparently can have one fast pass in each park which is good.

And the best time to be on a ride is during the fireworks as most of the people are lined up on Main Street to see them! I guess I’m just not all that fascinated with fireworks. You could try to do an outside ride so you could watch them at the same time though.

Unplugged my Fiber

So it turns out that some Verizon newbie decided to just unplug my fiber the other day and that’s why it wasn’t working. The repair guy had it fixed in seconds and then mentioned that there were some other houses out as well. This guy had unplugged about five of them. It really makes you have to wonder what was going on in the guys (or girl’s) head when he was unplugging the fiber lines from the switch.

I was fairly productive working from home today until about 2 and then went to Disneyland. Larilyn and Jessica were going and they invited me along. It was pretty crowded, but I think we all had a good time. I hadn’t been in months, either since I was there with Ashley or with Kelsey and Mandi.

In any event, I need to get to sleep, so that’s all for tonight!

Winnings and Weird Things

This funky looking huge thing just went rolling up the street with a semi pushing it as well as pulling it! It had 4-5 police cars escorting it and some truck driving in front making sure the path was clear high enough for it as well. I didn’t get a really good look at it unfortunately though to figure out what the heck it could have been. I’m almost guessing it has something to do with the new overpass they are putting in just up the street, but that is only a total guess and maybe not much of a good once sine I didn’t see anyone working there tonight.

Today seemed to cruise by in the office. Batch and I went to the chamber for lunch and I won free advertising in the lobby. I went to the Rodriguez’s for dinner tonight and then went to try and do some home teaching with Zach. The three people we tried to visit all seemed to be MIA.

I was thinking about taking tomorrow off and going to Disneyland, but I couldn’t find anyone to go. Actually, I guess I never tried that hard as I think I only talked to Kelsey about it and we pretty much determined that she has no time for me. I told her we could make a quick trip in the evening, but I don’t think she thinks it would be worthwhile. I guess we’ll just have to see.

Verizon may be forcing me to take the day off though. My Fios wasn’t working when I got home from work today. The fail light is just flashing. I called tech support and they didn’t know what was going on with it. When it was working at 10 o’clock tonight, they decided they had better send a tech out, sometime between 8 and 2 tomorrow. That’s essentially the whole day! Now, trust me, I’m game with playing hooky tomorrow, I just want someone to play hooky with!

Disneyland & House Hunting

I’ve gotten behind again. There were some late nights when I didn’t think I had the time to write, and then there was just the laziness and getting wrapped up in having to watch TV constantly instead of actually being productive with the time which I have been given.

Disneyland on Thursday was fun with Ashley and Lauren. I couldn’t figure out where I knew her friend Lauren from and then it finally hit me as I was driving home. I met her the night Maegan dragged me to the night at the Oscar’s event in Vista. Lauren and Maegan were hanging out together, and I even believe I spent a good portion of the evening holding her purse. In any event, we had fun. Lauren hadn’t been there in six years and had never been on Tower of Terror. Ashley didn’t want to go, but we forced her into it. We actually were able to walk right onto Tower of Terror which I have never done before – like literally right into the library and then from there to an elevator! Lauren loved it, so we went again while Ashley recovered.

We met up with Tara and some of her friends, then the girls (Ashley and Lauren) left and Batch joined us. Batch and I went to Cheesecake where I had the best orange chicken I have ever had in my life! Tara and David got lost in the two blocks from Disneyland to The Cheesecake Factory, so it ended up just being Batch and I. It was after 10 when we got out of there. I had to talk my way out of the parking garage because I was over the free time by one minute. I tried to explain to the parking lot attendant that if there wasn’t a huge line of cars to get out, I would have been fine. He didn’t like that idea so I demanded to speak with a manager. After it was made clear that I wasn’t going anywhere but forward, he decided to let me through.

Things got crazy in the office on Friday. I don’t remember what exactly now, but I remember being busy which is abnormal for a Friday. I had a real estate agent call and check up on me and we decided to go out and look at houses this week. I got pre-approved for the loan today so when I find the right house I’m that much closer! We looked at a few out in French Valley today. I explained to Angela that I’m not really interested in living out there, I just like the Veranda Model 4. There are a couple great looking (from the web) homes out there, some of which just seem too good to be true and therefore probably are.

The ham radio class went about as expected on Saturday. Nobody was there when it was supposed to start. As Jeff and I were talking and packing things up, a father and son showed up. We spoke for probably a half hour about some of the basics before we sent him on his way and scheduled a new date for a class and exam.

Since I had some time on my hands Saturday morning, I decided to try and nail down exactly what it is that I like so much about Veranda model four. I think it really comes down to the kitchen and the laundry room. It might really just be the laundry room! I love that place! I guess I like the way it feels from the street as well and how much room there seems to be in the kitchen and the layout there. I also looked at the big development at the NE corner of Clinton Keith and I-15. I didn’t really like much there. I did find the KB Home development, Monticello II to be nice and liked the model four they have, but am thinking there are some better deals out there on resales.

I’ll have to get caught up on Sunday and such tomorrow. Good night!

Slacking on the Writing

OK, so I haven’t been writing much this week. In part, there hasn’t been much to write. I also know that is just an excuse and there is always something to write about. That’s what forcing yourself to write every night will teach you: to make something up if nothing really happened. No, that’s not true. Something always happens, even on the most routine of days. The problem is typically that I’m not willing to take the time some nights to actually figure out what interesting things happened during a day that I’m calling boring.

It was an interesting week with it being a short week in the office for me since I took off Monday. I was fairly busy all of the week, but it still hasn’t been the busy like I’m used to. Looking at the financials, our sales are definitely down and we need to come up with a plan to turn that around. We’ve been working on quoting a bunch of things, but quotes don’t pay the bills.

I’ve been looking at houses on redfin and have found a few that might have some potential. Actually, there was a fire in Murrieta behind one of them today! I was looking at satellite imagery of where a brush fire was and thought I recognized one of the houses/lots. Sure enough, it was one I had looked at. (The house wasn’t on fire, just some brush in a nearby greenbelt.) I’m thinking in the next few weeks I will work on getting prequalified for a loan and then maybe go look at some houses. I’m ready to get moving on this project. Of course, I’m a little cautioned by the drop at work, but I have faith that  it will work out – we just need to retool and push forward.

I didn’t make it to Disneyland on Friday with Lauren and her gang as was planned Thursday night. When I got into the office (to take care of the funds transfer for payroll), I ended up having to deal with WaMu for more than a half hour as they wouldn’t let me do a transfer between my accounts. I also found that Paychex had tried to debit our account when there were no funds in there, the idea behind the account, for something they shouldn’t have been charging us for. To their surprise, the transaction was returned and we were charged for a NSF transaction. After getting the ball rolling with that and getting payroll squared away, it wasn’t going to be worth the drive to Disneyland since I had to be back for a wedding that afternoon. Tara was trying to get me to go out and do something instead of staying at work. We couldn’t come up with anything and I actually was able to be somewhat productive in the office. Tata had suggested taking Mandi (as she was the only one she knew of who had the day off) to the beach, the zoo, the mall, etc, yet none of them sounded all that appealing.

Thursday, Tata was trying to convince me that I needed to get my act in gear and get married. She said that if I didn’t have a date on Friday night, I should be at the single’s dance. I tried to explain that the whole dance thing just wasn’t going to happen, but she wouldn’t take no for an answer. I finally got off the hook by telling her that if she got me out of the wedding, I would come up with a date for date (Friday) night. Fortunately, she didn’t come up with someone to work a wedding, so I didn’t have to come up with a date and was able to enjoy a nice quiet evening at home. I really do enjoy quiet evenings at home by myself probably a bit too much.

Today I watched too much TV. So much in fact that my DVR started at 99% full and when I finished I think it was close to 30%! It helped that I was able to delete a bunch of programming with only watching a few minutes of it to figure out that I had already seen the episodes. This evening I watched 1408, a movie about a haunted hotel room. It was fairly interesting, I’d give it 3/5 stars and while not really scary, it kept my interest, which can be hard after a day of watching TV already. I keep thinking that I need to watch less TV and spend more time reading, but I haven’t put that plan into action yet. Heck, I haven’t even seen, heard or read the Sunday sessions of conference from a month ago now!

Disneyland with Mandi and Kelsey

Mandi and I finally made it to Disneyland today and Kelsey joined us. We had a good time even though we had to cut the trip short to get Kelsey to work by 3. It was pretty hot out there, so it was probably a good thing we didn’t stay all day long and totally exhaust ourselves. We did Space Mountain and Indiana Jones, then got Kelsey’s pass on the way to California Adventure where we hit up Tower of Terror (walked straight into the hotel) and California Screaming. We headed to Fudds after that. Neither Kels or Mandi had ever been there before, so I had to get them hooked!

California ScreamingSpace MountainTower of Terror

I spent the rest of the day at the Dowden’s. We just hung out for a while, then decided to go get some new furniture they had been looking at. A new couch for upstairs and a new kitchen table. It was nice to take a break today and although I am exhausted, I feel much better.
