No Doughnuts

I had a good time at the temple today. I officiated the 7:30 session and then attended the 9:30, which was a bit different for me. Sister Kowallis was in the 9:30. People have been saying that I’ve been doing a good job, but all I can think of is all the things that I should be doing better. They probably realize that I’m learning and know what I need to be working on.

I ate way too much at Fuddruckers for lunch today. I was just going to have a burger, and then went for the bacon cheddar cheeseburger and after the great fries this weekend, ordered some of those. Then I decided to get a chocolate shake. I didn’t need nearly that much food. Nor did I need the cookie that they gave me on the way out after I ordered brownies for Batch. The cookie was pretty good though, something new for the holidays, a peppermint cookie. It was like a chocolate chip cookie, but with peppermint bits instead of chocolate chips.

I went to work for a meeting this afternoon and was able to get through most of the email from the day. I’m going to have to actually get down to work tomorrow.

I heard a new song on the radio on my way home and went on iTunes to check it out. Then I started looking at Christmas music, I’m not sure why or how, but I guess I was just wasting time waiting for Alison. I’ve decided that I’d be ok with Christmas music if it was all sung by Josh Groban. I love his voice so much I’ve practically been listening to his Noel CD since I bought it four hours ago.

Alison and I went to Pat & Oscar’s tonight. We haven’t been there in forever and ended up getting a comped meal from the manager. I later got in trouble for not taking doughnuts to the Dowden’s today. I didn’t know that I was supposed to. No one had asked that I was aware of and I didn’t really feel like going to KK for the fun of it.

Returned from MN, Damaged Goods, Blockus

I’ve just been so exhausted lately I haven’t had a chance to write. Thursday went well with class and so forth. I tried the Twin Cities Grill Thursday night. It was really good and well worth the wait. I’ll definitely going back there. It wasn’t cheap, but it was good. I had a delicious steak for a little less than one would pay at Ruth’s Chris. I managed to miss the first few minutes of CSI back at the hotel and then kept getting interrupted during it. I also watched whatever weird show was on after CSI and then just about fell asleep on the couch.

Friday morning went well as we tried to wrap things up with the class. I passed the written exam and now just need to complete my project. I made it to my flight ontime and it was another full one. I was kind of hoping it would be oversold and they would be looking for people to bump, but of course it never happens when I could actually take a later flight. I sat next to a woman who was coming in on vacation for a week with her daughter and we talked for a while. I eventually decided to try and get some work done, but it was just too hard with the laptop. I then started watching Amazing Grace, but only got about 30 minutes into it before I was asked to cease and desist for landing.

LA Traffic actually wasn’t that bad coming back home as it only took me about two hours once I got to my car. It did take me an hour to get from the gate to my car which is a joke. Nonetheless, I’m sure in this case it was better to take the direct flight than having a layover somewhere else along the line.

It turned out that something was wrong with the recording of the Price is Right, so we didn’t get to see Krystal. One of her other friends apparently has it recorded and is going to transfer it to DVD for her though. I was really looking forward to getting home to see it, and was quite bummed that we couldn’t watch it.

I woke up super early Saturday morning and couldn’t sleep. After playing on the computer for an hour or so I decided to go back to sleep. When I got up the second time I enjoyed a bowl of Crispix and then watched a few things off the DVR before I got started with cleaning the house. I was thinking about going to the temple to makeup for Tuesday, but realized I just had too much to do. I did make it down for the baptisms though. We were way short on people, so I’m glad I went and am very thankful for the help we had from others last night as well.

After the temple, the group that wanted to come straight home decided they wanted to stop at In-N-Out to grab something quickly. I mentioned that if we were going to do that, we should go to Fuddruckers and I got everyone on board. That probably happened because when we got there two people ordered something other than a hamburger which they clearly couldn’t have gotten at In-N-Out! It was apparently homecoming for Mira Mesa or some other area schools and they thought we were there for Homecoming since we were somewhat dressed up. Brother Clark asked me if I was class of ’08 and I just laughed and said yep! I just want to know what the two of us guys were doing wit the three girls.

My counselors finally got called and set apart today. It will be huge having their help and I’m hoping we can figure out who our secretary is supposed to be and then we can really get this home teaching thing whipped into shape. It sounds like we aren’t going to be swapping the hours, so we will be stuck without the guys from mission prep. It sure would be nice to have them, but I guess we will just deal with another challenge.

President and Sister Clegg spoke today. Other than President going way over, it was good. He spoke about sexual morality, coming clean using the atonement and damaged goods. He relayed a story that hit me about a missionary who was planning on marrying his girlfriend after he returned. Shortly after he left she got into some trouble. After she left the other guy and went through the repentance process with her bishop she was pronounced clean again. This elder though didn’t see it so clearly. He had saved himself for her and he thought she was damaged goods. President Kimball (?) told him that he just didn’t get it. She has been made clean through the atonement, her sins have been forgiven. Yet, this elder struggled with that as I expect many do.

I went over to the Dowden’s tonight to post Mandi’s video of us trying to swallow cinnamon. Maegan also challenged me to a game of Blockus. I had never played before and didn’t do so well. I tried to get Cynthia to help me, but Maegan kept coming up with reasons she couldn’t. Eventually, Maegan gave up and everyone worked to finish off my pieces as best we could.

Anaheim plus Lunchtime equals

Today was pretty crazy. I managed to mis-order a piece for a system that needed to go out today. Fortunately I was able to drive up to Anaheim to get a piece to make it all work. I do really like the fact that we live in a place where we can typically get anything we need within a few hours. It makes me wonder how people ever get used to living on small islands or in remote places. I’m sure they don’t lead as complicated lives and I know they enjoy themselves.

The great thing about having to run to Anaheim is that it meant I got to be in Anaheim around lunch time. You all know what that means, right? For those that aren’t geographically oriented, Anaheim is very near Buena Park. Buena Park is where Fuddruckers is located. Anaheim + Lunch time = Fuddruckers! It was so good; I mean soo good. I think the Buena Park location is just better than Oceanside. Maybe it is the bold and spicy A1, maybe it is just the years of history there. Maybe it is the grill has been seasoned to perfection. I just love it there! I got some brownies (not the cream cheese ones since they don’t have them anymore) and some buns to take home. Now I need a plan for the buns.

As I was driving back from Anaheim, I hit some traffic on the 91, as always. Shortly thereafter I saw a Caltrans marquee that said some to the effect of don’t speed, save lives, save gas. Well, as soon as we passed this sign (going well under the speed limit mind you) we were able to resume normal operations. I wonder if people slowed just for the sign or what.

I had dinner tonight with the Lee’s. This is originally what I got the buns for as I thought we were going to BBQ. Sister Lee decided to make lasagna instead, which I would never complain about! It was good to be there and I nearly lost track of time to go home teaching.

Disneyland with Mandi and Kelsey

Mandi and I finally made it to Disneyland today and Kelsey joined us. We had a good time even though we had to cut the trip short to get Kelsey to work by 3. It was pretty hot out there, so it was probably a good thing we didn’t stay all day long and totally exhaust ourselves. We did Space Mountain and Indiana Jones, then got Kelsey’s pass on the way to California Adventure where we hit up Tower of Terror (walked straight into the hotel) and California Screaming. We headed to Fudds after that. Neither Kels or Mandi had ever been there before, so I had to get them hooked!

California ScreamingSpace MountainTower of Terror

I spent the rest of the day at the Dowden’s. We just hung out for a while, then decided to go get some new furniture they had been looking at. A new couch for upstairs and a new kitchen table. It was nice to take a break today and although I am exhausted, I feel much better.

Life in the Fast Lane

It was kind of an interesting day today. I felt like I was running around playing catchup, something I haven’t had to do for a while. Shortly after I was in the office this morning we started realizing that we hadn’t done a good job time-lining the next couple days/weeks and that there was a little less tim there than everyone was expecting. Things weren’t on people’s calendars, so I was booking them and myself for other things without realizing what was really going on. So, I had fun working on putting all sorts of events on people’s calendars and trying to figure out how the next two weeks were going to work out.

Somewhere along the line in dealing with trucking and prepping shows, it was realized that someone needed to go to Vista to pickup some gear. We were going to have Enterprise deliver a van, but I got to thinking that maybe it would make sense for me to drive Batch down there so he could pickup the gear and get the van. As usual, what I was really thinking about was food, which helped tip the scales. We went to Fudds for lunch before going to visit Sandy and Enterprise.

As we were leaving Murrieta, we heard on Murrieta Fire’s tactical frequency them talking about arranging trucks so they were in 1, 2, 3, 4 order. We couldn’t figure out what the heck this was for since that is usually the last thing on someone’s mind. When we got on the 15 at Winchester, we found about four engines parked on the overpass with lights flashing and firefighters standing on top. The same was true at the next two bridges and then we shortly saw a caravan lead by CHP with Murrieta Police and Murrieta Fire units. I found out tonight that one of the Murrieta Fire captains recently died in a hospital in San Diego and they were bringing his body back to Murrieta. It sounds like he picked up a parasite fighting recent wildfires.

Back in the office we got right back to work trying to make everything fit in the day. Nathaniel was prepping a show, I was working on admin stuff and Batch was just trying to keep his head above water. A lot got done today though, that’s for sure. I stayed late and got the taxes pretty much done. I just need to look them over in the morning for any typos or other mistakes and print off some final copies before putting them in the mail.

It was late when I got home tonight, so I’m pretty much just getting ready for bed and trying to wind down from the high paced office today. It’s a good thing I’ve got so many reruns of Without a Trace to watch…
