Happy Not So Birthday To Me

Well let’s see. I didn’t end up making it to Disneyland on Thursday. When the morning came around, sleep was sounding so good and since no one had volunteered to accompany me, I figured I’d take what I could. I would have loved to have gone and bought some Disney stuff, but I guess I’ll have to wait till next year if they’re still doing it.

It was a long day at work, but all went fairly well. The show went off without a hitch and everyone was happy with our work. I hope we’re able to get some more business out of the deal.

I ended up sleeping in a bit Friday morning as well and tried to get all sorts of things done in the office. Unfortunately it felt like I didn’t get much done. I was planning on going in today to get taxes done – or started – but I ended up with so much to do at home that I never left the house.

Last night I just kind of took it easy at home. The missionaries asked if we could meet to fill one of their spots that someone had backed out of, so we did that and then I watched the double header of 24. Before they came over I spent about an hour figuring out how to get the audio out of my DVR. I thought it would be easy to take the optical out, but apparently it is encoded and not just a PCM stream or something and the MacBook couldn’t recognize it. I tried all sorts of things to just get the stereo audio through and it just wouldn’t work. I finally came across a way through firewire to have the MacBook emulate a DVCR and then was able to capture the video and audio feed through VLC. It’s a bit hairy, but it worked and I was able to get the new Rascal Flatts song “Here Comes Goodbye” at least temporarily while I wait for them to release their new album.

I think I’m going to get the company to signup for Promo Only so I can get these new songs sent to me without having to wait for the album. The service doesn’t cost that much more than the songs themselves really do and while I won’t like them all, it could be beneficial in times like this. That will also help me at work to have the most current songs even if they are ones that I don’t particularly care for myself.

I spent the bulk of today cleaning. I finally got caught up on all the newspapers. Well, the big stacks are gone. There are a handful of sections that I saved to read longer stories in or for reference. I decided to toss all the sections I had been saving for Soduku since it seems that Maegan isn’t coming over anytime soon to play a bunch and I get two new ones each and everyday. I finally cleaned the carpet in the family room which had a few stains that I’ve found recently on it. It looks like the big stuff came out which is good. I still have a hard time believing sometimes how dirty the water is coming out of the carpet when it looks so clean. I guess it just goes to show that you never really are done cleaning. There are still lots of things that I need to do, but I’m very happy with the kitchen and family room being clean again. I also got my shower much cleaner than it was and did laundry today.

I had some extra chicken left over from Monday which I needed to cook or freeze so Ashley and I decided to make some chicken alfredo. I think it was the best I’ve ever made. The chicken was very tender and the seasoning worked out quite well. I’m actually kind of looking forward to those leftovers even though I know they won’t be as good as it was tonight.

Lauren had talked about possibly coming over tonight, but I never heard anything from her, so we went with plan B (above). Ashley and I then watched My Girl. I had forgotten how much I love that movie. The music is so great and I love so many of the lines and plots.

Well, I guess I’d best be off to sleep so I can make it though this heck of a day tomorrow.

P.S. Did I mention that Alison called me aged the other night?

Waitin’ On A Woman

Today wasn’t my typical Saturday. I guess in many ways though it was about what it should be. I didn’t spend the entire day cleaning, although I sure could have. I forced myself out of bed this morning to help with building cleanup since I missed the last three weeks of it and Cynthia has been trying to guilt me into going. Of course, she wasn’t there this morning cause she was at work, but I went nonetheless. It was actually the quickest building cleanup I’ve ever done. We were done about 8:45 and I don’t recall ever being out of there before 9:30 before.

That gave me enough time to come home and take a shower before going into work to meet a customer who was returning some gear. I was very pleased to get over 41 mpg driving to the office. I have to wonder if Toyota did in fact do something to the Camry as it seems to have been getting much better gas mileage lately than it typically would.

I came home and went through the mail. It was just about perfect timing as there were a few things that I needed to take care of in there. I didn’t get very far with cleaning up my desk, but at least it isn’t getting any worse. I had an interesting encounter regarding spaghetti today. i was asked to bring some for break the fast tomorrow. The sheet said to bring it cooked, but I asked if there was really a reason to cook it ahead of time with it then needing to be reheated. I was told it was ok for me to bring the spaghetti uncooked, but to make sure the sauce was cooked. That really threw me off. Am I supposed to take the sauce out of the jar, heat it up and then put it in some container to take it to church where it can sit in my car from 11 till 4 and then need to be reheated? I won’t even mention the health concerns, or that it would need to go in the fridge. I also had to explain that me bringing spaghetti doesn’t necessarily involve me bringing a sauce for it. I guess we are just all on different pages with our pasta. I think I’ll just be bringing a package of spaghetti and a jar of sauce and we’ll let the girls figure it out from there. Maybe I’m just in an argumentative mood lately.

After I finished eating lunch, I went to Pat & Oscar’s with Lauren (Kristin) and had some breadsticks. We had a good time talking and we confirmed that Shelby is in fact not engaged, some guy just made a fake wedding announcement for the fun of it I guess. She didn’t even know about it, so it was a good thing that we called her. After that I came home and hung the pictures on the walls that they’ve been sitting in front of for nearly a week. I had a heck of a time in the living room. I kept hitting things that didn’t seem like studs, so I was scared to keep driving the nail in. I repositioned everything three times on the wall before deciding to go with it for now.

I then read through a lot of the newspapers that have been piling up. I still have more to go through, but I made a good valiant effort at getting through them. I think I’m going to recycle my Soduku stack too as I get two new ones everyday, I probably don’t need to keep all the old ones since we haven’t had a shortage problem for a while now. I watched Meet Dave tonight. I thought it was pretty funny and had a good story line.

Still no news … It really bites that something that feels so right hurts so much.

I’m really not ready for tomorrow, or next week for that matter. I think there is too much unfinished business from this past week to move on. I also know that tomorrow is going to end up being so hectic and long that I’m just not looking forward to it. I think I may have to go back to that stand about taking a break. I think it would be that much harder to to now with the recent events as no one would believe me that they aren’t related. I’ve had the desire for a break since long before I had the desire to breakup a friendship or two. Regardless, i think it’s a mute point as I’m sure I just need to endure, although I could do with a few less things on my plate. Maybe I need to delegate off the coordination with the missionaries to one of my counselors.

More Cookies?

I had a pretty lazy day today. I pretty much just cleaned up my messes from yesterday and hung around the house. In fact, other than to get the mail, I never even left the house and I really don’t think that counts for much!

Sibonet tried to talk me into making chocolate chip cookies this afternoon, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it with snicker-doodles, Krispy Kreme doughnuts and fudge still sitting around. I think we can do it later in the week once some of the other items have disappeared a bit.

I am starting to like how downstairs is looking without all the junk that I’ve moved up to the office. It is kind of nice not seeing a laptop on the kitchen table, all my mail and church stuff everywhere. I’m sure the laptop will come and go, but I think I am on the right track. I was really eyeing a Mac Pro today, but I just don’t have the money for it. I priced out a comparable Dell and it was quite a bit more expensive, so I guess it is still true that you get more bang for your buck with Apple. The problem is they have no middle of the road machines. I don’t think I need a fully loaded Mac Pro to do my pictures, and have a hard time justifying $3,000 just to import and export pictures. My laptop just isn’t cutting it and there doesn’t seem to be much between my MacBook Pro and the Mac Pro in terms of real speed difference. Maybe I’ll have to start saving up and just make do with what I’ve got for now. It would probably help if I used a faster external drive and maybe that will be step 1.

As much as I have been going crazy with all this time off, I’m not sure if I’m looking forward to getting back to the nitty gritty tomorrow. I know it isn’t work tomorrow, but Sunday’s and all the church stuff tends to make it quite a day.

I watched War of the Worlds tonight. I remembered that Nathaniel had loaned it to me and I didn’t remember watching it. Well, as soon as it started playing I remembered the film, so either I did watch it and just forgot to give it back, or I’d seen it before and couldn’t remember it when he asked me if I wanted to watch it. In any event, I’ve seen it now, and now it needs to go back. I didn’t mind watching it again, it’s a decent enough movie and since I had nothing from Netflix, I had to resort to watching something I had in house or risk going out to find something. I actually recorded a few things on TV as a backup plan just in case too.

Setting Up Office

It seems like I got a lot done today, but it also seems like all I did was make a mess! I scored good at Target this morning with the chocolate. I decided to limit myself to twelve bags of dark M&M’s. Normally it seems that I just empty the shelf and take everything I can find, but today there seemed to be a lot to choose from. I didn’t find much other than chocolate at Target, but I did get some cards and some wrapping paper for next year.

The one thing I was really hoping to find was some LED Christmas lights to put on the house for next year. I’d rather buy them at 50% off and hold them than buy them next year. Well, I decided to try Home Depot and Lowe’s to see if they had anything, and neither did. I was able to take care of a few things at Lowe’s that I needed to get off my list though, so it was good to be there. They had essentially no Christmas stuff left. I understand they did some deep discounts before Christmas to make sure they weren’t left with any inventory. I was also looking for possible gifts for people I hadn’t found them for yet. I completely struck out on that front. I also stopped at Best Buy to look for gifts, but didn’t find anything that I was feeling good about and the line was way too long to check out.

I swung down to Costco to get gas and then decided to go inside and do some shopping. It was mostly groceries and stuff. I was amazed at how empty the place was the day after Christmas. I guess everyone was shopping at places that had specials and that’s not Costco. Shortly after I got home, had lunch and got the car unloaded and was organizing the pantry to get all the goodies in, Mr. Batchelor called me and asked if there was anything I needed with a truck. I’ve been wanting to get the office setup at home for a while, so I asked if he would go desk shopping with me.

We went and visited our friends at Murrieta Office Furniture and got essentially the same desk I have at the office. I was able to use the extra bridge which was nice to one, use and two, not have to purchase! We came back and got that setup just in time to realize that there is no light in the bedroom I’m using as the office. So, while he returned the truck, I went to Costco for the second time today and purchased some lamps. I was worried they wouldn’t provide enough light in here, but two of them actually seem to do a pretty good job. I actually like them so much that I might think about going back to get more of them for other rooms and uses.

So, it seems like I will be cleaning the house tomorrow and probably working on getting more of the office setup. In the long term I’m going to have to run some ethernet from the main switch into the office and before summer comes around I’m sure I’ll need to install a ceiling fan.

Batch and I watched Get Smart tonight. I was actually pretty impressed. Most movies made from TV shows, especially the older ones, just don’t ever make the grade. This actually seemed very natural to me, maybe because Get Smart has been a bit more distant to me, or maybe because they were more true to the actual characters and their roles. I’d say the story line was very similar to a typical episode as well which I’m sure helped. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it.

I got busted today for using the MySpace application on my iPhone. I’ll admit that I signed in to remind myself of someone’s name and then minutes later I got a text from Nathaniel that asked me about the iPhone. I guess MySpace brodcasted a message that I added the MySpace for iPhone application. I must actually admit that MySpace works way better in the application on the iPhone that I have ever seen it work on their website in any browser. It probably helps that there are no ads!

Well, I should probably call it a night before I turn into a pumpkin. Good night to all and to all a good night. 🙂

So I have been taking the approach of my tweets counting as my end of day blogging now that the auto digest is working. There are, of course, things that don’t make it into tweets that I could blog about though.

Let’s see. Christmas is here and upon us now. It is Christmas eve and I have spent this one in the utmost capacity to go against Christmas by sitting around by myself and watching a movie. I did actually enjoy the movie, The Invasion. It kept my interest the entire time and had a good story line. I would recommend it.

I left work around one this afternoon and have pretty much already gone crazy with not knowing what to do. I really don’t think I can handle essentially a six-day weekend. There are four days left and I have a feeling they could be kind of long. My parents asked if I was coming down to open presents in the morning and I pretty much said no. One, if I do get up that early in the morning, I’m not planning on being in Fallbrook and two, what would I possibly do if I was there all day long? I suppose I would find something to do, but lounging around my own home sounds good to me. I guess I’ve really captured the spirit of the season now – I really want to be alone!

I had a craving for hot chocolate this morning and we had none in the office, so I took a road trip to the store and got some. I got all the fixings as well: whipped cream, cinnamon, peppermint syrup. If I may say so, we made some dang good hot chocolate this morning. Starbucks has nothing on us! We can leave out the part where I knocked over the DVD display at the checkout with my basket.

Batch surprised me this morning with the car charger for my iPhone that I had been eyeing. It has two USB ports so you can charge two things simultaneously and it comes with both an iPod cable and a standard mini USB, which will charge both of my phones. I can then also use it for headsets, my centro and whatever else charges through USB which seems to be more and more everyday.

I spent some time shopping after the temple on Tuesday, but really only got Susan taken care of. I don’t know what to get most of my close friends as I just don’t know what they could practically use. I think it is kind of sad when we get to that point in life where we either don’t know people well enough to think of something they could actually use or when they already have everything imaginable that doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars or more.

I ended up sending a package to Tara with a box of note-cards, cookies and a Target gift card. It looks like FedEx failed in their job on this mission, so on the bright side, I won’t have to pay for the overnight shipping costs. I am a bit frustrated that I worked so hard to rush and get the goodies to FedEx by the cutoff Tuesday though. If I wanted it to show up Friday, I could have taken my time and finished everything I wanted to do. Oh well. It is in Jacksonville, FL as of 1:15 this afternoon, they just didn’t get it to her. I hope she doesn’t think I forgot her tomorrow.

I just realized that if I had Christmas cards, I could work on sending those out tomorrow. But yeah, I haven’t even purchased those for this year yet! I have a feeling I’ll be hitting up a lot of sales on Friday, for both myself and for gifts!

I guess that’s about it for tonight. We’ll see what fun tomorrow brings.

Boring

I don’t know that I really have much to report. I went up to President Mattson’s yesterday and wired up the subwoofers in his home theater. Then I came home and cleaned. I know, I lead such an exciting life. To finish off the night Michelle and Melissa came over and we watched Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It was alright; I’m just glad we finally watched it.

The girls kept me up way too late last night and I therefore slept in this morning. Church went well, but I caught myself being a bit short with people more than once. I don’t know if this is Christmas depression or what, but it isn’t good. I think I’ve always been able to hold in my anti-Christmasness in for the most part, but it is just spilling everywhere this year.

I’ve also been so tired almost all the time lately and have pretty much been anti-social, so there must be something larger going on. Too bad I’m not smart enough to recognize what it is. Maybe my boring life is just feeding on itself.

Stardust

I feel like such a bum, but I know I accomplished a lot today so I will overlook the fact that I never took a shower. I got up this morning and got right to cleaning the stake center and then came home and continued here. I vacuumed a good portion of the house, scrubbed the kitchen floor until the Swiffer Sweeper broke, experimented with table clothes, did some laundry, hung some pictures, rearranged some things and so forth. I feel like it was a big day and I am exhausted from it.

Frank moved out today. I’m really sad to see him go which is kind of strange because he was never here that much. I just feel like I’m going to be missing out things. Maybe I’ll end up seeing more of him now that he doesn’t live here, who knows. I guess this means I have an open room again (not that I didn’t technically to begin with). I also have to figure out what is going on with Geoff as he was supposed to be leaving soon too. It could be nice to have the house to myself again.

I watched Stardust tonight. I wasn’t too sure what was going to come of the movie, but it held my interest and I started to really get into it about half way through. The movie has the typical story line where a boy goes to get something for the woman he thinks he loves and then realizes he loves someone else. I hope I’m not ruining anything for anyone here, this should be common knowledge in these movies. In this instance he goes out to catch a shooting star. I did like the ending of the movie although I must admit i was confused at first.

Oh, I also got some calls done for home teaching. I’m meeting with David in the morning and I hope we can work on getting this bus back on the road. There were lots of things I learned tonight. Sometimes I wonder why it takes so long to figure things out and why people don’t move their records when they move!

Made of Honor

Wowsers! It’s after 1 in the morning and I wasn’t even out doing anything tonight! I came home after work, made dinner and watched Made of Honor. Larilyn has been wanting to see it for some time now, so I got it in a few weeks ago and just haven’t had an evening to watch it. Melissa and I discussed last night that tonight could be a good night. I texted Larilyn this morning and she said it would probably work even though she already had other plans. Well, Melissa invited Michelle and Michelle said something to Larilyn, so naturally I got in trouble for proceeding with plans before it was even known if Larilyn could come. I guess I was just hoping it would all work out or I would have watched it twice.

After the movie Larilyn made Cheesecake, so that took a few hours and then Michelle kept showing us funny things online. Next thing you know, Geoff is coming home and that’s when we know we’re up too late!

Bee Movie

I was able to get a little bit of relaxation in today. I did a small amount of cleaning this morning and then watched Fringe. I got the joy of working a wedding today at GT. I got to see and talk with Sean who I haven’t seen in a while, so that was cool, and the wedding was pretty easy.

After the wedding, I enjoyed some more peaceful time at home. Lauren was supposed to come over, but I never heard from her. I’m sure she fell asleep again or something along those lines.

I got some pictures printed at Costco today as well. It was really for Tara, who I have been promising pictures to for months now. It also gave me an excuse to fill a frame I bought the other day and order some others which may someday make it into a frame and help me fill the walls of this house.

I watched Bee Movie tonight. It was fairly entertaining, but nothing too special. I liked that they learned what a contribution to society they are. It makes me think about all the things that we complain about or that we want to fix. If things were different, would the grass really be greener? We hate ants, yet without them we would have a trash problem. They clean up a lot of things that we leave behind. Even in our houses they help us to keep clean as we don’t want to have to deal with them. It really is a huge circle we have here. If one part of the circle stops doing it’s job, we’ll all have some big problems on our hands.

No Disappointment

Thankfully the craziness has not let up and today was no disappointment. I worked a full day and then came home and planted a tree with Brother Lee. We found lots of rocks in the slope in my backyard, so there may be more fun to come as it gets planted further. I do need to work on a landscaping plan so that I at least have a grand scheme even if it is only implemented slowly.

I finished off Head Over Heels tonight. It actually ended pretty well and I enjoyed it. I’m sending two movies back tomorrow – if I remember to hit up the mailbox. Netflix won’t know what to do with me! I think there are only 10 movies in my queue as well, so I’ll be down 20% with two movies coming back to me!

It looks like I’m going to the temple tomorrow morning. Four o’clock is going to come way too fast. I have some things that could be done at work tomorrow, but I guess this is where the sacrifice really comes in. Actually, i think the being at the temple at Six in the morning is the sacrifice! If anyone wants to join me, you’d better be at my house really early in the morning or plan on meeting me there!

Beautiful Day for a Bicycle Ride

Beautiful Day for a Bicycle Ride

I must start off by saying how beautiful it was today! It was almost 90 yesterday and yet the high today was 78. It was 68 at 6 o’clock this afternoon when I was debating about turning on the AC. Had I known it wasn’t going to get above 78, I probably never would have closed the windows. We are currently 7 degrees below normal – It’s 54 outside at 11 at night. I think it is going to be a beautiful night and I’m going to sleep quite well. It was 69 downstairs when I closed the windows!

I went for a bikeride this morning for the first time since I moved here. I think it had been a while before then as well. It was really good, although I probably pushed myself a little harder than I should have. It is totally different riding around here, it’s so flat! I’m not used to pedaling on flat ground for so long. In Fallbrook you get breaks all the time. Yeah, you work hard to get up a hill, but then you get to rest as you come down the other side. I went down to Harveston to drop my speedlight off at Kristin’s and then went by the office. I did some exploring around there, were I found these random markings behind the industrial buildings on the other side of the street. Actually, it was just to the side of New Life Church. I found a little passageway from one side to the other, so I guess we have less of chance of being stranded with one way in. I took some dirt roads up through French Valley Airport and from there to Los Alamos and brought it all the way back to Whitewood. I had always thought it was a dirt road, but the whole thing was paved as far as I could tell. It wasn’t in the best of shape and it is certainly not designed to be a major road, but paved nonetheless.

Fallbrook has Changed

I came home completely exhausted tonight and then managed to stay awake till after midnight watching movies! I guess part of it is that Tyson was coming over cause he needed a place to spend the night.

I went to Fallbrook today for a wedding. The place had totally changed since I was there a month ago. The lights at 395 & Mission are working now. That new office building in town looks complete and the Walgreens or whatever they are building is actually a building now. They still have a lot of work to do, but the fact that there is a building there shocked me.

We wanted the Golden Compass (Frank & Sabrina brought it) tonight as well as the first half of Head Over Heels. Golden Compass was weird and I didn’t follow a lot of the movie, I probably wouldn’t watch it again, although it did keep my interest and me awake which is saying a lot for a movie that didn’t get started until 10 o’clock. Head Over Heels looked good and I’m looking forward to finishing it soon with or without Megan. I decided to start it without her tonight as I was tired of it sitting here and me waiting to watch movies with people.

I think that’s about it for tonight since it is so late. I have to be up in 7 hours to pray. I think I’m going to go for a ride in the morning if anyone wants to join me. Probably just a short ride to the office and back to see how long it takes and what kind of a workout it is. Maybe I’ll spend some time exploring as well.

Sizzling Steer, Witless Protection

Today was pretty crazy again in the office. I had to run out for a site survey as well and was there till 5:30 this afternoon and then had to go to FedEx. I guess I’m working on banking up those hours! 🙂

I had dinner tonight with the Rodriguez’s at Sizzling Steer. I had never been there before and it was quite good. I went for the bacon wrapped filets and they were very tender. I may have to go back and try something else soon. Well, not soon, but next time I’m going out I guess. Maybe this can replace Outback on my list since they can’t seem to cook anything correctly!

I haven’t been grocery shopping for weeks. Maybe I will go tomorrow since I will be home early most likely. It looks like Verizon is coming to replace my set top box in the afternoon. They pushed an update to it last week that killed the audio on the HDMi port. They can’t seem to get it functioning again and since I’ve previously had problems with it, I guess they just decided to get a new one out here.

I watched Witless Protection tonight. It was fairly funny. My goal was to get to sleep on time. That doesn’t look like it happened, but maybe I can still be ahead of the game tonight.

That’s about the boringness of my life story today. Sorry it isn’t more interesting, but then again, is it ever?

Wicked Trip Part 2

Wicked Trip Part 2

Let’s see if I can pick this up where I left off last night. Cheesecake. The Beverly Hills Cheesecake is quite smaller than your typical Cheesecake Factory and you almost walk through the kitchen to get through the restaurant. The surprising part was that there was no wait when we came in even though it was about 5:30. I’ll spare you the details of dinner, you can just know that Krystal felt that her chocolate raspberry cheesecake was better than mine. I actually did try something new: the 30th anniversary cheesecake which is layers of the original cheesecake with Linda’s Fudge Cake. It was pretty good in my opinion and pretty rich. We actually had to call it quits about half way through the cheesecakes and saved them for after the show.

Wicked was amazing. I had been telling Krystal not to expect much from the seats because we got them at the last minute and so forth. I was trying to build her up to expect the last row of the balcony or something. Well, I think my story got blown when they told us what door to go to – door number three, which is downstairs. Oh, maybe it’s just the back row of orchestra. As we were walking she almost nervously said “we keep walking.” I should have said something like we’re just going to check out the orchestra pit when she asked what row we were going to. She was thrilled when we stopped at row F and then slid to almost dead center.

The cast was almost entirely different from what I had seen any other time. The only main character that was the same was Madame Morrible, played by Carol Kane. We had the understudy for Galinda/Glinda. She did a good job. Fiero was pretty good as well, I’d say second best to the actor on the tour, although I wasn’t as critical of his role the first time I saw it. I still thought the sound was a bit off. Maybe the crew is just tired of the production or maybe they don’t have good fill speakers for the front. Everything considered, I’d say that everyone seemed to do a great job in the show. I enjoyed it so much that I quite literally would have come back the next night to see it again. Krystal “is in love with Wicked and wants a remote that can rewind her back to the beginning of WICKED!!!!”

So, the short of it is that I don’t know exactly what made this trip to Wicked so great. I don’t think I could put my finger on one thing in particular. I think overall though this trip tops the chart and has raised the bar for a great evening out. I enjoyed the show and appreciated the company greatly. I would totally do it again this week.

Now, on to today. As usual, I spent most of the day cleaning. As I was vacuuming downstairs near the entry I found these black spots that I hadn’t seen before. When I ran the vacuum over them, they only got bigger and bolder. The best way I can think to describe them is something like dry toner. I don’t know why I would have something like that on my floor, or what it was in reality. Since the vacuum was only making it worse, I got out the carpet cleaner and decided that pretty much everything downstairs needed a good cleaning. Well, hours later the family room, dining room and hallways had been done. The spots came out along with a lot of other dirt as I had to make many a trip to the sink to empty and refill. This was of course in addition to the other cleaning chores I did, so it took most of the day.

Lauren called me about going to some work thin with her. I told her I’d try and be there, but had to figure out some timing things. I got sidetracked with some work things that didn’t work out as they should have, so i wasn’t able to be there right on time. I could never get a hold of her to figure out where I was supposed to be going or what to wear, so it never happened. I was really sad about it as I haven’t seen her for a few weeks now.

I ended up helping out with the movie in the park or drive in movie as they like to call it. They needed some more power cables and other things to make it all work, so that got me out of the house this evening. I got things going, waited for people to show up and then took off. I called Sister Dowden on my way home to check in and ended up going over there to see the new look for her site. Of course that turned into a longer thing and it was about midnight before I got home.

I’ve got lots to do for church tomorrow, so I should probably get to sleep now that I am wound down. Good night and I hope you will join me tomorrow for church. We meet at 1 off the 215 at Los Alamos.

Broken Toe

Broken Toe

Today was kind of an interesting Saturday. I did my usual cleaning stuff this morning, but almost all of it was in Frank’s new room and I didn’t touch much of the rest of the house. Maybe since I feel like I wasn’t home at all it doesn’t need to be cleaned.

Frank, Sabrina and Megan came over around noon and we hung out and got him going. I then went to Bouse’s housewarming party while Sabrina and Frank moved in stuff. I managed to hit my foot on the bottom or side of Bouse’s pool at one point while we were playing volleyball. I guess I didn’t realize that the side of the pool came up so quickly at the bottom. I think I broke one or two of my toes actually in the process. They kind of stung after I did it, but didn’t really hurt. Now when I walk around the house or sometimes even move in the wrong direction there is excruciating pain. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is much one can do about a broken toe other than live it out and take it easy. I have a feeling I’ll be doing a lot more sitting this next week.

I ended up with a quiet evening at home. Melissa didn’t make it and I didn’t feel like inviting anyone else over. I just watched a B movie – It’s a Boy/Girl Thing where this boy and girl change bodies and learn to overcome their problems. Classic story, so nothing new there and the movie wasn’t incredibly entertaining.  It wasn’t bad though, just not the next summer blockbuster.

I made cookies tonight for break the fast – and I finally went to Albertson’s for the first time in weeks. We were starting to run low on milk and I was craving some after the cookies and swimming. I also have been out of raspberry lemonade for weeks. That was the extent of the reason for my trip since I ended up not making dinner tonight. Now that I’m looking at next week, it doesn’t look like I’m going to be around much either, at least not as far as formal dinners go. Monday I’ve got a board meeting and then home teaching, Tuesday the temple, Wednesday we’ll be at Wicked, Thursday is Institute and Friday is out as well (which reminds me I need to find a date!) That’s the whole week! No wonder I’m never cooking dinner anymore.

I spent some time thinking about how we can better do home teaching in the branch today. We seem to have a hard time motivating people to begin with and then the high turnover rate I’m sure doesn’t help. You really can’t get into home teaching when you are only here for a few months, but maybe that is just an excuse and a barrier we need to cross. I realized in pondering that while I have been visiting my people, I too have a long way to go with improving my actual home teaching. I’m anxious to see the changes the new presidency is going to make as to how home teaching is counted and recorded, what changes they will want to make to the home teaching program and if I will even be involved in it after tomorrow which is Zach’s last day.

Wow… too much pondering, it’s tomorrow already and I need to be sleeping. Here’s to fasting for another good month of business!
