Oh Christmas Tree

I finally got a Christmas tree today, four days before Christmas. I was able to get it for about 50% off, and only paid $30 for the tree. Of course, I bought a wreath and then bought one for Bouse since he was nice enough to help me get the tree and set it up in the house. I don’t really know what I’m going to do with the wreath, but it looked nice, so I got it for $15.

Bouse was telling me about LED christmas lights. It makes sense, but I had never seen them. We looked at Target tonight and I found some blue ones, but couldn’t find any white ones.

I spent the bulk of the day cleaning as usual. I was able to fix the sprinklers in the front yard, so they are all working again. (Well, one of them needs a new cap, but is working now. I also went around and adjusted many of them so that they aren’t spraying farther than they need to, like into the street. I picked a lot of weeds in the front, and filled almost an entire trash can. I figured since I had gone through so much work and the soil was almost workable, I’d try planing some more seed out there, so maybe I’ll have grass in a few weeks. Or maybe, I’ll continue with the plans to sod the place.

Timmy moved in today. I have a feeling he will be here more often, but that he is one that we will never see.

My parents apparently lost not just their internet today, but also their home phone line which means they can’t even do dial up! Susan said she was just talking on the phone and heard a click. I’m guessing that some accidentally cut the wires or assigned the number to someone else. The one time I tried calling it, I got a busy signal. I wonder if that is because they reported the line bad or if it means something else. In any event, AT&T isn’t sending someone out to look at it until Dec 31! At least it is still this year! Matthew is planning on coming up tomorrow to submit college applications since he can’t do it from home.

Just keep in mind, it could always be worse!

The branch Christmas party was tonight. I got asked to take pictures of everyone with Santa, so that’s about all I did. Greg did an awesome job. Once I finally saw the service auction in progress, I finally understood how it all works. People bring in cans which gives them tickets to bid on services offered by other members of the branch. There were some funny ones and some good ones as well. Tara thought I would totally bid on the dinner for two at Cheesecake Factory courtesy of the Prosser’s. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I didn’t bring any cans with me, so I didn’t get to bid, and I had left before that item went up for auction.

There were a few good ugly sweaters, but for the most part I didn’t see anything too crazy. Some people I thought actually looked good, so i don’t know if that’s what they were going for, or if I just like ugly. I guess we’ll never know!

A Surprising Night

I’m really tired – and it isn’t even 11 yet. I nearly stayed up to watch a movie and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have made it. I barely made it through the few minutes of Mythbusters!

Today was great. I made it through a lot of things at worked, did some blogging, got bills paid, stayed current on my email and even checked a few things off my to do list. I ended up coming home a bit later than I would have liked, but I was still able to have a wonderful evening.

I got through all my calls for Prop 8 tomorrow. It seemed like I was able to rush through the list. Maybe it was cause I left lots of voicemails and didn’t have to deal with people as much. Maybe I was more organized this time, I just don’t know. In any event, I got through them without too much of a hassle and then got a text from Melissa who came over to have dinner and chat with me. I’m glad she came and kept me company tonight. I had a great time. I’m glad I didn’t go to San Francisco today as I would have missed the opportunity to have Melissa over. (Allison, I definitely want to come and see you soon though!)

Frank is moving in tomorrow. I need to work on getting the room clean and set for him. Maybe I’ll go visit Melissa at Lowe’s and get the ceiling fans as well. I’m planning on going to Bouse’s housewarming. It seemed as if there was something else going on as well. Hopefully Lauren will come up – it seems that I haven’t seen her in a while even though it was just last weekend.

Painting Ideas

I finally got Sib over here tonight. It nearly involved kidnapping her, nevertheless she came peacefully. We started talking about ideas for painting and she realized what a big job it is going to be. With dinner and then being rushed to go home teaching, we didn’t get anything settled, so we will have to finish it up another time.

Work went well today. Time seemed to fly and I can’t really pinpoint what exactly I was able to accomplish. My desk is still a mess…

Sister Dowden, Larilyn, Kenny and I went to the temple Tuesday night. I hadn’t been in a really long time – I think she the last time I went with Sister Dowden a few (two-three) months ago. It was good and so was the Cheesecake that followed. I got home way too late though and have been having a hard time getting up all week. I’ve barely made it to the office on time and haven’t had the leisurely time in the morning I like to have. That also means I haven’t had a chance to dive deeper into scripture study.

Larilyn was over last night and made cheesecake. Lauren and Michelle came and helped us eat the ground beef tacos that needed to be gone ASAP. Again I was up too late.

I was thinking tonight on the way home from home teaching that I could get to sleep early. Then I decided that this was my only chance to carpet clean Geoff’s room before he moves in, so I decided to do that. Then the hallway outside the garage. After the third time I filled the machine up, I decided it was time to call it a night! I’m glad I did it though because it appears that it pulled a lot of dirt out of the carpet. I need to work on doing a room a night or something so I can get the whole house done.

Geoff is moving in tomorrow, so my peace and quiet may be gone. I’m thinking that maybe I’ll start actively looking for more roommates once I’ve got him settled in so I can bring in the cash to keep working on the project list. Sib told me tonight not to get married, just so I could keep both sides of the closet! Oh the joys of sharing…

I’ve got dinner plans with the family tomorrow night and am hoping to get some family history done at the same time although I understand Tom won’t be home. Then I’m hoping to get the first movie night in this week and we’ll see what fun projects the weekend brings.

Housewarming Party

I was happy with the turnout today for the housewarming party. There were some notable people that didn’t show. I’d still say there was about 50 over the course of the day. It was great to see Taugher, although I didn’t really get to find out anything about her – and also Hauser as I haven’t seen them in a long time. Ron & Kathy made the drive down which was great, and we didn’t get a chance to talk either! I’ll have to start having random people over once a month or something for a get together a little of the quieter side.

On the bright side, I got to try out my new carpet cleaner tonight. We managed to get chocolate on the carpet just outside the kitchen where there were already some spots. I ran the cleaner over them and it all seemed to come out just fine. The water was really disgusting, so I’m thinking that the carpet really needs to be cleaned as I had originally planned. I think I figured out that I could do a room before I went to bed and although it wouldn’t be the best time to clean it, it should give it enough time to dry out overnight and then I would barely be on it before leaving for work in the morning.

Geoff expressed some interest in renting a room tonight and we are going to talk about it tomorrow. I’ll have to start developing the rules for housemates so everything is clear from the get go. It certainly will be different with permanent house-guests, but I really could use the money to put toward the other projects – like landscaping – that really need to be done. Dean said we need to do the next BBQ here and Taugher said she’d drive up, so I guess I need to get started on something out back and a BBQ.

I was also really looking forward to seeing Lauren P, but she didn’t make it. I called her on it and she said something came up. She suggested a movie next Saturday. I’ll have to see if I can make that work and actually get her up here.
