Setting Up Office

It seems like I got a lot done today, but it also seems like all I did was make a mess! I scored good at Target this morning with the chocolate. I decided to limit myself to twelve bags of dark M&M’s. Normally it seems that I just empty the shelf and take everything I can find, but today there seemed to be a lot to choose from. I didn’t find much other than chocolate at Target, but I did get some cards and some wrapping paper for next year.

The one thing I was really hoping to find was some LED Christmas lights to put on the house for next year. I’d rather buy them at 50% off and hold them than buy them next year. Well, I decided to try Home Depot and Lowe’s to see if they had anything, and neither did. I was able to take care of a few things at Lowe’s that I needed to get off my list though, so it was good to be there. They had essentially no Christmas stuff left. I understand they did some deep discounts before Christmas to make sure they weren’t left with any inventory. I was also looking for possible gifts for people I hadn’t found them for yet. I completely struck out on that front. I also stopped at Best Buy to look for gifts, but didn’t find anything that I was feeling good about and the line was way too long to check out.

I swung down to Costco to get gas and then decided to go inside and do some shopping. It was mostly groceries and stuff. I was amazed at how empty the place was the day after Christmas. I guess everyone was shopping at places that had specials and that’s not Costco. Shortly after I got home, had lunch and got the car unloaded and was organizing the pantry to get all the goodies in, Mr. Batchelor called me and asked if there was anything I needed with a truck. I’ve been wanting to get the office setup at home for a while, so I asked if he would go desk shopping with me.

We went and visited our friends at Murrieta Office Furniture and got essentially the same desk I have at the office. I was able to use the extra bridge which was nice to one, use and two, not have to purchase! We came back and got that setup just in time to realize that there is no light in the bedroom I’m using as the office. So, while he returned the truck, I went to Costco for the second time today and purchased some lamps. I was worried they wouldn’t provide enough light in here, but two of them actually seem to do a pretty good job. I actually like them so much that I might think about going back to get more of them for other rooms and uses.

So, it seems like I will be cleaning the house tomorrow and probably working on getting more of the office setup. In the long term I’m going to have to run some ethernet from the main switch into the office and before summer comes around I’m sure I’ll need to install a ceiling fan.

Batch and I watched Get Smart tonight. I was actually pretty impressed. Most movies made from TV shows, especially the older ones, just don’t ever make the grade. This actually seemed very natural to me, maybe because Get Smart has been a bit more distant to me, or maybe because they were more true to the actual characters and their roles. I’d say the story line was very similar to a typical episode as well which I’m sure helped. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend it.

I got busted today for using the MySpace application on my iPhone. I’ll admit that I signed in to remind myself of someone’s name and then minutes later I got a text from Nathaniel that asked me about the iPhone. I guess MySpace brodcasted a message that I added the MySpace for iPhone application. I must actually admit that MySpace works way better in the application on the iPhone that I have ever seen it work on their website in any browser. It probably helps that there are no ads!

Well, I should probably call it a night before I turn into a pumpkin. Good night to all and to all a good night. 🙂

Cookies

So I have been taking the approach of my tweets counting as my end of day blogging now that the auto digest is working. There are, of course, things that don’t make it into tweets that I could blog about though.

Let’s see. Christmas is here and upon us now. It is Christmas eve and I have spent this one in the utmost capacity to go against Christmas by sitting around by myself and watching a movie. I did actually enjoy the movie, The Invasion. It kept my interest the entire time and had a good story line. I would recommend it.

I left work around one this afternoon and have pretty much already gone crazy with not knowing what to do. I really don’t think I can handle essentially a six-day weekend. There are four days left and I have a feeling they could be kind of long. My parents asked if I was coming down to open presents in the morning and I pretty much said no. One, if I do get up that early in the morning, I’m not planning on being in Fallbrook and two, what would I possibly do if I was there all day long? I suppose I would find something to do, but lounging around my own home sounds good to me. I guess I’ve really captured the spirit of the season now – I really want to be alone!

I had a craving for hot chocolate this morning and we had none in the office, so I took a road trip to the store and got some. I got all the fixings as well: whipped cream, cinnamon, peppermint syrup. If I may say so, we made some dang good hot chocolate this morning. Starbucks has nothing on us! We can leave out the part where I knocked over the DVD display at the checkout with my basket.

Batch surprised me this morning with the car charger for my iPhone that I had been eyeing. It has two USB ports so you can charge two things simultaneously and it comes with both an iPod cable and a standard mini USB, which will charge both of my phones. I can then also use it for headsets, my centro and whatever else charges through USB which seems to be more and more everyday.

I spent some time shopping after the temple on Tuesday, but really only got Susan taken care of. I don’t know what to get most of my close friends as I just don’t know what they could practically use. I think it is kind of sad when we get to that point in life where we either don’t know people well enough to think of something they could actually use or when they already have everything imaginable that doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars or more.

I ended up sending a package to Tara with a box of note-cards, cookies and a Target gift card. It looks like FedEx failed in their job on this mission, so on the bright side, I won’t have to pay for the overnight shipping costs. I am a bit frustrated that I worked so hard to rush and get the goodies to FedEx by the cutoff Tuesday though. If I wanted it to show up Friday, I could have taken my time and finished everything I wanted to do. Oh well. It is in Jacksonville, FL as of 1:15 this afternoon, they just didn’t get it to her. I hope she doesn’t think I forgot her tomorrow.

I just realized that if I had Christmas cards, I could work on sending those out tomorrow. But yeah, I haven’t even purchased those for this year yet! I have a feeling I’ll be hitting up a lot of sales on Friday, for both myself and for gifts!

I guess that’s about it for tonight. We’ll see what fun tomorrow brings.

Gift List

I don’t post this in an attempt to get gifts, but more as a way of thoughts for those who are looking for something to give to someone like me. It could also help me figure out what to get people who I have no clue what they could use and appreciate. I also enjoy looking back and seeing the things I thought were cool years ago.

  • Almost anything picture related, frames and so forth.
  • Art (i.e. things to fill the walls). I love landscapes, water, sunsets, snow, color or not. LDS Temple prints.

Wicked Trip Part 1

Wicked Trip Part 1

I think I was, for the first time in history, the last person to leave the Dowden’s house tonight, eh, this morning. I went over there for dinner and of course got to working with Sister Dowden on website stuff and the like. We eventually got to talking and that led to me being there way past my bedtime. This was even the second time this week I was home after Geoff!

I totally wanted today to be Saturday and wanted to sleep in this morning. In fact, I did sleep in a bit too much and was late to work. I think taking most of Wednesday off has confused me – or maybe I’m just that way naturally.

I should probably be sleeping. Unfortunately, I’m worried that if I don’t write about Wicked soon, I’m never going to do it! So, let’s see. In the interest of revealing more about myself than I probably should – I don’t know if I was nervous about going to Wicked, really excited, some of both or something else. I had been thinking about what I was going to wear for a week. A week! I don’t know if most girls would think about it that far in advance. I really wanted to get all ready to defy gravity. I, of course, wasn’t seriously going to wear a dress to the show. I was thinking a new shirt and tie for the evening and then just didn’t seem to have the time to make it happen. Well, I ran to Men’s Warehouse right after I got off work to exchange my shoes (they gave me a 13 EEE this time!) and to see what they had to suggest. They hooked me up with a green and black tie and we then found an olive striped shirt. Now to really show the girl in me, I texted Tara about this and she told me I was such a girl. I figured at that point I might as well let it all out and sent her pictures of the various suits I was debating wearing that night. I know, what a dork!

Surprisingly, I was right on time to pick up Krystal. I figured I was going to get some quality time of Waitin’ on a Woman. This was where I learned how punctual she really is as she was ready to go! I’m glad I wasn’t late and I managed to pull everything together in a matter of minutes. Oh yeah, I left out the part about searching for a car wash throughout the day. I had realized the night before when Jiffy Lube cleaned my windows how dirty the car was. Well, no one seems to have touchless car washes. I finally remembered the Mobil by Pat & Oscar’s and drove down there. Fortunately it was able to get most of the dirt off my car.

We had a good drive up and only hit a little bit of traffic on the 405 past LAX. We didn’t really have a plan of what to do with our extra time, so I took us to the Los Angeles Temple. I had only driven by once before (after my last time at Wicked actually) and had never spent any time on the temple grounds there. At the time Krystal didn’t think she had ever been there either, but remembered when we got there that she had been to a wedding there once. We got out and started taking a walk around. Krystal made some comment about not having my camera and I pulled out my little Nikon. I had left the big boy at home for once. We took the normal pictures and then decided to try and cause some trouble. I promise we didn’t see any signs that said to stay on the path as we decided to venture off into the trees. It was there the picture taking really started.

After an hour or so at the temple, and without getting yelled at, we headed off to The Cheesecake Factory Beverly Hills. Yet again Krystal managed to have been there, I guess for prom a few years back. It’s not everyday I run into someone who has been to a Cheesecake Factory that I haven’t been to.

OK… brain just shut off… till tomorrow.

Preparing for Wicked

I think I’m going to make this one short and sweet so I can try and get rested for the day ahead tomorrow. I drove to Anaheim this morning. I didn’t get Fudds, nor did I get to go to Crate & Barrel as I was hoping. I didn’t get all the things done this afternoon/evening that I was hoping to. I did get an oil change and I must admit I love Jiffy Lube and having a almost 0 weight oil in my car. I was the last one in and the first one out. They told me 25-30 minutes and I didn’t even get to catch up on my tweets before they called me out.

I have no plan yet for tomorrow. I still need to figure out our afternoon in LA and I haven’t figured out what I’m wearing. I totally sound like such a girl! I think I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to wear for a week now and the only thing that has been decided is that I’m not dressing up as Glinda. I didn’t go shopping for anything Wicked themed, so maybe I’ll have to go another show without a plan. Or maybe I’ll just ditch work in the morning and take care of the things I have left to do – like getting a car wash.

Any ideas for something to do for an afternoon in LA/Hollywood? Any ideas on what I should wear since apparently getting dressed up as Glinda was shot down?

On the Air and Online

Yesterday went well with the ham radio and FIOS installs. I was home all day and actually never even left. I thought about going out and grabbing some things on my list, but decided that I didn’t need to make a special trip since I was going to be out and about essentially every other day. I also had the electrician take care of a few other loose ends, like the switches in the back bedroom and putting a duplex in the garage instead of the singled edison that was there. It is great to have internet and be moving forward. I also got my TV mounted on the wall, and rehung the evid that was a little bit off from the other night. I should have my in wall evids coming next week, so I can clean that up and then I think the family room will be ready for paint.

I saw this beautiful dining room on HGTV this morning. It was a really light blue with dark wood. They paneled the bottom half of the wall with wood matching the table and made place and seat mats that matched the blue in the walls. I was thinking that might work for my dining room to spice it up a bit down the road. I think I’m going to start with painting the rooms that need it due to the patching of holes in the walls and such and then work on the other ones down the road.

Alison and Nathaniel came over for dinner last night. We just made pasta and bread, nothing special, but it was good. We just hung out for a while after and watched some Get Smart. Alison had never seen the show, but has seen the movie, go figure.

I had Verizon coming back out this morning to fix the set top box for the TV which kept turning off randomly. However, shortly after I called in yesterday, I couldn’t reproduce the problem on the box so I’m figuring it was just downloading software updates or something. Hopefully all is well now. I turned off the wireless in the router Verizon gave me and got a Netgear unit in here that is doing a much better job! Those actiontek pieces of junk just don’t seem to work at all with the macbooks. I couldn’t stream music at all and I actually got to the point last night where I used my aircard to surf the net instead of the fios!

The roadshow went well today. I learned about and saw some new products that I knew had been in the works and some that I didn’t know of. I was interested to find that they released 90 degree versions of all the line array boxes (or most of them anyway). I guess it had been something that was specifically requested enough times they decided to make it a standard order part. I could see the use for it with the tighter beams on the top and widening as you go down to help compensate for the throw distance. I’m interested to see what it does to the specs on the rest of the box and then when the array is working as a whole since I presume that changes a lot.

I rushed out of the roadshow to drive over 100 miles from San Dimas to San Diego (Fashion Valley). Susan wanted to go to Cheesecake Factory for her birthday dinner. I didn’t think I was going to make it, but we got out early enough so it worked out. It was a bit of a long drive (especially considering I’m getting used to my 11 minute commute to work and 5 minute drive to church – when I leave the house, that is). After dinner we went shopping at Crate & Barrel and then Williams Sonoma. I got a lot of stuff at Crate & Barrel and will probably need to go back there with Sib or someone next week after I get a new list of things I need in order to cook and serve. I’m sure I’ll need a bunch of stuff for the housewarming party which I haven’t even started to think about yet.

Maegan and Larilyn came over tonight after institute. Larilyn brought the stuff to make the Boston Cream Cheesecake sometime in the future. While she was here, she helped eat the brownies and then we got into pictures from her trip. I got to use the SD card reader in my blu-ray DVD player which was kind of cool, other than we couldn’t figure out how to zoom or rotate any of the pictures. Maegan then wanted to continue with the pictures so I showed her what I had on my laptop which wasn’t nearly as interesting as Larilyn’s pictures.

I’m bummed I missed institute for the third week in a row and also curious what I missed at the stake priesthood leadership meeting tonight. I think I was in the right place though, so I’m just going to go with it and go to bed!

Good Sunday

Today was good. I still didn’t accomplish everything I was hoping to do, but I guess as long as the day wasn’t a complete bust I won’t complain too much. I had the whole morning off and spent it reading primarily. Church went well. I really like the talks from Melissa and Kim. Marissa was back teaching Sunday School and did a good lesson as well. It always amazes me at how much I manage to not pick up on while reading the lessons that we end up focusing on in class. We talked a lot about giving up a little sin that is holding us back. I was trying to figure out what that is in my life. I know I have lots of problems, I guess I’m just having a hard time focusing on one. Maybe it is not being considerate enough or forgiving.

We also talked a few times today about sharing the gospel and just opening our mouths. I was thinking what a great new opportunity I will have here with the house to start setting examples and traditions. I am looking forward to having a place where the Spirit will be welcome and a place where we can have those gospel discussions. Some examples were given of missionaries who were relentless with spreading the word and proclaiming the gospel. I wish I could have a fraction of the drive that they had to talk to a stranger when one helped you up from the ground after falling off your bike.

Larilyn and I made brownies after church for branch prayer. Sister Skaggs said that she wasn’t going to have anything chocolate there, so I called and asked if we should bring some brownies. They seemed like a big hit cause they were almost completely gone by the end of branch prayer tonight. It was the first time I got to use my new mixer and the oven which was good. Of course, we discovered more things that I was missing, so I’ve got some additions to the list. Maybe Sib and I will go shopping once she gets home next week.

I wanted to write to Sisters Caldwell and Shiess today, but i apparently failed at making time for that. I don’t think I have much planned for tomorrow night, so maybe I can get some letters off then and will be able to actually receive my own mail tomorrow too! I do need to go get the rest of the ceiling fans so they can be installed Tuesday and I’ve got a lot of things to do in the office tomorrow to catch up and to prepare for the board meeting Tuesday.

Well, that’s probably about it for tonight. I’m quite tired, so I’m going to call it bedtime from here. Good night to all!

Cleaning

Cleaning

Not too much of any interest to report today. I spent the morning cleaning – I got all the window sills cleaned downstairs and most of them upstairs. I also vacuumed the living spaces of the house which is a large accomplishment of its own these days. I can tell the house is getting cleaner, I really need to now start on actually unpacking some more of the boxes and find real homes for things.

I went shopping this afternoon. I was going to head up to the outlets to get some kitchen stuff, but wasn’t really feeing motivated to go do it by myself. I ended up just going to Home Depot, Lowe’s, the office and Vons. I started looking at all the things that I really need to hurry up and eat in my fridge and pantry and discovered there is a lot more food in the house than I thought. I’ve had some lunch meat sitting in the fridge for a full week now and the strawberries were hours away from death so I made smoothies with what was left.

I watched Underdog tonight. I wasn’t expecting much; it turned out to be a cute movie.

I picked out some ceiling fans today so they can be installed next week. It will be nice to be able to cut down on the air conditioning a little bit as I’m sure my first bill is going to be outrageous! Too bad I won’t have a full month to really see the difference between fans and no fans, but I’m sure I can do the math and get a good idea of how quickly the fans will pay off.

I’m thinking about having the housewarming party on the 2nd of August, three weeks from now. It’s a Saturday, I’m thinking we’ll start in the late afternoon and just let people come and go as they please up till about 9. That can be my motivation to keep unpacking and getting projects done and can also be a promotion for rooms for rent. So, mark your calendars and plan on coming or let me know if we need to change the date.

Day at Home

I spent most of the day at home. I had people coming throughout the day for various things and was busy making progress. I got almost all of the baseboards and windowsills vacuumed this morning before the electrician and pest control came. The washer and dryer showed up and the delivery guys had fun lugging those beasts upstairs. They did a remarkably good job getting them to fit in the laundry room which is great. I was expecting them to not fit so nicely side by side, so I am impressed.

After the pest control was done I had to leave the house for a few hours so I went and got my refund for the couch that wasn’t going to work and then went to SK to purchase the sofa and loveseat for the living room. Batch was kind enough to pick that up for me on his way back to the office and we got it all setup. I had been working with Ashley Furniture here in Murrieta on some other things. Shelly suggested I give the store in Colton a try and they were able to give me the items for will call today and give me a much better price to make it worthwhile to drive there! I think I saved close to a thousand dollars and got things faster by driving to Colton!

Nathaniel and Batch were kind enough to drive up in the truck to get my new furniture and then stay to help set it up. We made sure to stop at Cheesecake in Riverside on the way back and then I made, if you can call it that, strawberry shortcake after we got finished assembling everything.

After I get gas tomorrow, I feel like things will be complete enough to actually enjoy the house instead of just constantly working to get it ready to live in. It will have actually only taken me a week which Is pretty impressive! There will, of course, always be more things to do and I have a long list of upgrades to make and such, but I think I can actually start enjoying it and just having weekend projects instead of spending my life cleaning. I almost can’t wait to use my new washer and dryer tomorrow night!

Back to the Office

It was almost weird being in the office today. It seemed like it had been so long since I had been there – and it had in some ways. I did kind of enjoy my eleven minute commute to work this morning. It was weird not having to change radio stations, or even ham repeaters as I drove. Heck, the drive really wasn’t even long enough to talk to anyone, and I didn’t. I was at work extra early and then started going through my emails. I had amassed quite a few that I didn’t deal with on my phone as the days had passed, so I tried to catch up with those and get some bills paid which probably should have been paid earlier and then started to work through my stack of mail from the last week or so. I actually made a pretty good dent and then headed out to leave a bit early. I wanted to get some shopping done and keep moving forward with the house.

Tara (Tata) and I went furniture shopping after I went to Trader Joe’s and managed to get nothing that was actually on my list to get! How’d I manage that? We found a good looking table and sofa set at SK and then went to Ashly where we found even more good stuff. The things at Ashly did seem to be more expensive in general, but the dining room table was actually a bit cheaper at Ashly. I’m going to give a list to Sister Rodriguez and see if she can work on the pricing at all, although I really just want to get the furniture and get it in here. I’m tired of having an empty house with no where to sit and eat. I posted pictures on Facebook of all the things we liked and clearly will need some help narrowing things down. Once we get the basics there will be all sorts of other things to work on as well – like the theater.

Nathaniel came over tonight to check the place out and helped me get a few things done. We got a lot done in the kitchen and tried out some of the things I had bought previously at the store. He was able to get my shelf moved as he found the hidden latch and we unpacked the rest of the kitchen appliances. He also helped me deal with the ants that found not only the chocolate on the island, but the motherload in the corner of the family room. Those darn ants are driving me absolutely crazy. I’ve got Fowler Pest Control coming tomorrow to spray and hopefully that will help me to start winning the war. I’m afraid that things might get worse before they get better though.

Speaking of tomorrow, I’ve got the electrician coming in the morning to get going on the ceiling fans (which I don’t have yet), pest control, the washer and dryer being delivered and Angela coming by. It sounds like a pretty crazy day at home and I’m looking forward to making progress. The best news is that the day after tomorrow – I get gas so I can start cooking and will be able to have hot water!

Final Inspection

Sunday went pretty well. It was weird being home all morning. I tried to keep the packing tasks light and spent some time reading which was nice. Church went well and all that jazz. Zach and I went home teaching and then went to branch prayer. I guess it was pretty much the norm.

This morning I got up at my regular early time (about 6) and got serious about packing. I went to the shed and got all the boxes for the gear that needs to go back in them and then tried to break my back lifting my 42″ LCD by myself at 7 something in the morning. I was supposed to have the final inspection on the house this morning, but they took the lockbox off the door and we couldn’t get in. Angela was able to get a key from the selling agent finally and we went back this afternoon. It looks about the same, with possibly a few more bugs. I can’t wait to get in there and get going. I am really happy we finally have a timeline of when things should be happening. Let’s just hope that we stick to the schedule.

It looks like I’ll be moving Thursday. I should get a key Wednesday evening and will then have to start scheduling all the things that need to be done. I’m thinking we’ll get a good start with the moving in the morning, so we can stop for lunch and then be moving in early in the afternoon. Once I hear that things are still on track tomorrow, I can start asking for help as I don’t think it will take too much to get escrow closed and recorded once they fund.

My room is looking really weird with nothing on the walls and all sorts of things missing. Not having the speakers setup is almost driving me crazy. It’s almost like I’m traveling as I will soon be living out of a suitcase. I’ve packed almost everything and only have a few more things to deal with over the coming days. Well, a few more things to pack that is. I have a lot of things to deal with over the next few days: Locksmith, appliances, switching utilities, moving, installing fans, buying furniture, and who knows what more.

Cleaning Files

I’ve been spending time cleaning up each night, or at least as I have been able. Sometimes it amazes me the things that we save. Obviously at the time it made sense, and I would probably have done it again, it’s just that I should have come back years ago and thrown away the tissue paper order forms for float a handful of years ago. I probably also didn’t need the class competition standings or all the raw calendar information for 2004-2005 and other years.

I was looking through a file of stuff from BYU-Idaho at one point tonight. It seems that the story I’ve been telling doesn’t quite match with the dates on the letters I have and it really wasn’t just before the semester was going to start. There was probably ample time for me to get things in order and move to Idaho. At the time it must have seemed like it was next week; maybe I had just registered for classes or something at CSUF.

Not to play the what if game, but of course this lead me to pondering (not that I don’t do this too often already) how things would be totally different in my life if I had gone there. I doubt CBC would still be in existence. I’d probably be married and have kids by now! How scary is that? I probably would have continued in IT or accounting and not be out here on my own doing whatever the random task of the day is. I’m not saying I would have rather done that, just pondering how the smallest decisions in life can have such huge consequences.

I’ve been stressing myself out lately over choosing a refrigerator, washer and dryer. I thought I had it all figured out from Consumer Reports and then I went into Pacific Sales. They didn’t sell Samsung, so i started looking at other refrigerators and then the guy turned me onto this washer and dryer combo that costs more than what I was going in there thinking of buying. Some of the features (and the ratings) are good. Is it worth the extra money though? Then there is the problem of what will really fit in the laundry room. Some things sound great on paper, but yet I wonder how they would really function in the available space.

Oh, I went to WinCo tonight to pickup some milk on my way home. I had an idea since they took over the old Costco building that it wasn’t going to be your typical grocery store. It’s pretty much a cross between Costco and a grocery store and probably not my first choice of somewhere to shop. They probably have some good deals, I’m just not that good of a comparison shopper to know. The milk was priced weird. Most places are more of a 2 for the price of 1 deal, while Winco seemed to just have a lower price per gallon and no incentive to buy the second one. P.S. They don’t take credit cards, so I had to actually use some of that cash I collect and never use to pay the $6 bill for bread and milk.

Mall of America

Today went went through a lot of Dynacord products and briefly touch on Midas and KT. I think some of the things we talked about were way above the level that most MI people are or that they may aspire to be at, but it is good information for them to know. The unfortunate part is that some of it is quite dry, like how to compare an amplifier and why you can’t just rely on some spec such as watts to really determine the best purchase to make.

We ran a little late, so I didn’t get back in time to get my car, so I’ll have to deal with it in the morning which means I now need to get up even earlier. Nathaniel and I went to the mall this evening to check things out. I really wasn’t impressed with the Mall of America. If you take away the amusement park, the theater and restaurants you really just have a mall. My only guess is that people here in Minnesota don’t want to have to go outside when it is cold and want to spend as much of the day/time as possible inside one building. I guess going to one place where you can eat dinner, watch a movie and then do some shopping could be attractive to some people, and it certainly doesn’t hurt to have the extras there, I guess i was just expecting more. There did seem to be some stores that you maybe wouldn’t see in a typical mall (I’m no expert). I think we have such a variety of stores already in our California malls that it just doesn’t seem too different here.

The Apple store was old school style, with a theater and actual registers. I tried to take a picture, but the manager stopped me telling me that they don’t allow pictures in the store. What kind of marketing is that? Is there something secret about their stores? Do they not want me to promote their stores and products?

Making Music

We had our first elders quorum presidency meeting tonight. I had a feeling this calling was going to be a lot of work, but I didn’t quite think it through that it would mean less sleep as well too! We couldn’t start till after 8, so we didn’t end till about 10:15. We spent most of the time tonight working on home teaching assignments.

Work went pretty well today. I was able to get payroll done and submitted. I gave up on the whole online thing, I just figured it was going to take way too much work to go through all the steps and it seemed really slow. It is so much easier to call in the time and let them deal with it on their side. The downside of relying on them is that I don’t really get a preview and just have to hope it is all right as compared with doing it myself, but I think I can take that chance for now.

Since I stayed at work late I had to get over that working late hurdle. Around 5:30 it starts to kick in that you’re tired of being there and you’ve really accomplished everything you set out to accomplish that day. So you have to decide what to do. I ended up spending the rest of the evening working on getting the books current and going through the depreciation schedules and such. It was good to get that done and is something that tends to be hard to do during the day because of constant interruptions. I’m taking some time off tomorrow afternoon to go bowling with Sib, so that should help make up for the extra hours I’m putting in elsewhere this week. If anyone would like to join us, you’re more than welcome. I think we’ll be getting started about 2:15.

I went to Men’s Wearhouse this evening to get some new white shirts as some of mine were starting to look worn. Of course I started browsing ties and then decided to ask the stupid question of what killer deals did they have going on right then. They pointed me to some suits and I’ve now got two new ones on the way. This is why I don’t go shopping!

Last night pyro and I made music on hold for our phone system. We had been talking about getting some new music for a long time, but it is so hard to find good royalty free music that is cheap. Pyro finally suggested using GarageBand to make our own music, so we did! It was actually kind of fun. I’m sure if you looked at the time spend on doing it, it would have been cheaper to buy something, but this was more fun and we can say we actually made it ourselves!
