He Sat Down in His Overalls

I’m definitely not doing so well with this internal debate I’m having. It’s a good thing I’m so sleep deprived; otherwise I’d worry that I’d be up all night discovering that on a “midnight Tuesday you can have pizza ordered in.” Oh wait, I forgot I’m living my life in a Brad Paisley song and not one from Emerson Drive. Also, I’m not eating. Well, I’ve been forcing myself to eat, but it hasn’t been going so well. Lunch o’clock came around today and I wasn’t even hungry. I think I’ve lost a few pounds since Saturday and am trying really hard to stay hydrated.

I spent most of the day today catching up on emails and bills. I actually felt like I was making progress and I saw the stack on my desk dwindle. On my lunch break (at 2 something mind you), Batch and I went to the bank (work), Radio Shack (work) and then Costco to pick up the pictures I had printed Saturday. Most of them turned out really well. I am still amazed at the black levels in the one picture of the moon; I’d have to look at the metadata, but I’m sure it’s at a really high ISO and there is no noise in the print.

I spent some time tonight framing those pictures and some I already had. I think I’m going to stop by Crate & Barrel tomorrow after the temple to grab some frames to match the one I already have the pictures from Wicked when Krystal and I went. I’m going to expand the Wicked wall there with at least a picture of Maegan and I. I may find some other expensive frames I like while I’m there too, so hopefully I can control myself. I also need to find something to house all the pictures of Melissa. That could be nearly impossible, but I need to get it done as I promised it to her over a year ago.

I’m so excited to go to the temple tomorrow. I definitely have some questions I’d like to spend some time discussing and get further clarification on some other things I’ve been pondering and feeling lately. I’m curious what I’ll be doing, but I’m sure it will be great regardless.

I hope I can get some sleep tonight so I can manage at the temple tomorrow. I almost ended up crying myself to sleep last night. I just got caught up in praying and lost it. I was finally able to get myself back into control and then I was out minutes later. In missionary correlation yesterday, AJ challenged us to choose something to fast from for 40 days and 40 sleepless nights. I think the sleepless nights was only for me. I think I’m going to fast from sleeping in as I think that is one thing that has been setting me back lately. I have not been doing so well with reading before I leave for work and I have just been getting there later and later. Tuesday’s will still have to be the exception where I don’t sit and read before leaving, but I think with my destination in mind the exception is warranted. I will resolve again to not leave the house without reading and will help to fix that problem and let me spend the appropriate amount of time by not sleeping in so much. I think it will be hard with my current sleep deprivation, but I’m going to try. And with that note, I’m going to bed, only an hour and a half late tonight!

Wicked Trip Part 2

Wicked Trip Part 2

Let’s see if I can pick this up where I left off last night. Cheesecake. The Beverly Hills Cheesecake is quite smaller than your typical Cheesecake Factory and you almost walk through the kitchen to get through the restaurant. The surprising part was that there was no wait when we came in even though it was about 5:30. I’ll spare you the details of dinner, you can just know that Krystal felt that her chocolate raspberry cheesecake was better than mine. I actually did try something new: the 30th anniversary cheesecake which is layers of the original cheesecake with Linda’s Fudge Cake. It was pretty good in my opinion and pretty rich. We actually had to call it quits about half way through the cheesecakes and saved them for after the show.

Wicked was amazing. I had been telling Krystal not to expect much from the seats because we got them at the last minute and so forth. I was trying to build her up to expect the last row of the balcony or something. Well, I think my story got blown when they told us what door to go to – door number three, which is downstairs. Oh, maybe it’s just the back row of orchestra. As we were walking she almost nervously said “we keep walking.” I should have said something like we’re just going to check out the orchestra pit when she asked what row we were going to. She was thrilled when we stopped at row F and then slid to almost dead center.

The cast was almost entirely different from what I had seen any other time. The only main character that was the same was Madame Morrible, played by Carol Kane. We had the understudy for Galinda/Glinda. She did a good job. Fiero was pretty good as well, I’d say second best to the actor on the tour, although I wasn’t as critical of his role the first time I saw it. I still thought the sound was a bit off. Maybe the crew is just tired of the production or maybe they don’t have good fill speakers for the front. Everything considered, I’d say that everyone seemed to do a great job in the show. I enjoyed it so much that I quite literally would have come back the next night to see it again. Krystal “is in love with Wicked and wants a remote that can rewind her back to the beginning of WICKED!!!!”

So, the short of it is that I don’t know exactly what made this trip to Wicked so great. I don’t think I could put my finger on one thing in particular. I think overall though this trip tops the chart and has raised the bar for a great evening out. I enjoyed the show and appreciated the company greatly. I would totally do it again this week.

Now, on to today. As usual, I spent most of the day cleaning. As I was vacuuming downstairs near the entry I found these black spots that I hadn’t seen before. When I ran the vacuum over them, they only got bigger and bolder. The best way I can think to describe them is something like dry toner. I don’t know why I would have something like that on my floor, or what it was in reality. Since the vacuum was only making it worse, I got out the carpet cleaner and decided that pretty much everything downstairs needed a good cleaning. Well, hours later the family room, dining room and hallways had been done. The spots came out along with a lot of other dirt as I had to make many a trip to the sink to empty and refill. This was of course in addition to the other cleaning chores I did, so it took most of the day.

Lauren called me about going to some work thin with her. I told her I’d try and be there, but had to figure out some timing things. I got sidetracked with some work things that didn’t work out as they should have, so i wasn’t able to be there right on time. I could never get a hold of her to figure out where I was supposed to be going or what to wear, so it never happened. I was really sad about it as I haven’t seen her for a few weeks now.

I ended up helping out with the movie in the park or drive in movie as they like to call it. They needed some more power cables and other things to make it all work, so that got me out of the house this evening. I got things going, waited for people to show up and then took off. I called Sister Dowden on my way home to check in and ended up going over there to see the new look for her site. Of course that turned into a longer thing and it was about midnight before I got home.

I’ve got lots to do for church tomorrow, so I should probably get to sleep now that I am wound down. Good night and I hope you will join me tomorrow for church. We meet at 1 off the 215 at Los Alamos.

Wicked Trip Part 1

Wicked Trip Part 1

I think I was, for the first time in history, the last person to leave the Dowden’s house tonight, eh, this morning. I went over there for dinner and of course got to working with Sister Dowden on website stuff and the like. We eventually got to talking and that led to me being there way past my bedtime. This was even the second time this week I was home after Geoff!

I totally wanted today to be Saturday and wanted to sleep in this morning. In fact, I did sleep in a bit too much and was late to work. I think taking most of Wednesday off has confused me – or maybe I’m just that way naturally.

I should probably be sleeping. Unfortunately, I’m worried that if I don’t write about Wicked soon, I’m never going to do it! So, let’s see. In the interest of revealing more about myself than I probably should – I don’t know if I was nervous about going to Wicked, really excited, some of both or something else. I had been thinking about what I was going to wear for a week. A week! I don’t know if most girls would think about it that far in advance. I really wanted to get all ready to defy gravity. I, of course, wasn’t seriously going to wear a dress to the show. I was thinking a new shirt and tie for the evening and then just didn’t seem to have the time to make it happen. Well, I ran to Men’s Warehouse right after I got off work to exchange my shoes (they gave me a 13 EEE this time!) and to see what they had to suggest. They hooked me up with a green and black tie and we then found an olive striped shirt. Now to really show the girl in me, I texted Tara about this and she told me I was such a girl. I figured at that point I might as well let it all out and sent her pictures of the various suits I was debating wearing that night. I know, what a dork!

Surprisingly, I was right on time to pick up Krystal. I figured I was going to get some quality time of Waitin’ on a Woman. This was where I learned how punctual she really is as she was ready to go! I’m glad I wasn’t late and I managed to pull everything together in a matter of minutes. Oh yeah, I left out the part about searching for a car wash throughout the day. I had realized the night before when Jiffy Lube cleaned my windows how dirty the car was. Well, no one seems to have touchless car washes. I finally remembered the Mobil by Pat & Oscar’s and drove down there. Fortunately it was able to get most of the dirt off my car.

We had a good drive up and only hit a little bit of traffic on the 405 past LAX. We didn’t really have a plan of what to do with our extra time, so I took us to the Los Angeles Temple. I had only driven by once before (after my last time at Wicked actually) and had never spent any time on the temple grounds there. At the time Krystal didn’t think she had ever been there either, but remembered when we got there that she had been to a wedding there once. We got out and started taking a walk around. Krystal made some comment about not having my camera and I pulled out my little Nikon. I had left the big boy at home for once. We took the normal pictures and then decided to try and cause some trouble. I promise we didn’t see any signs that said to stay on the path as we decided to venture off into the trees. It was there the picture taking really started.

After an hour or so at the temple, and without getting yelled at, we headed off to The Cheesecake Factory Beverly Hills. Yet again Krystal managed to have been there, I guess for prom a few years back. It’s not everyday I run into someone who has been to a Cheesecake Factory that I haven’t been to.

OK… brain just shut off… till tomorrow.

Wicked Awesome

Wicked Awesome

I think I’m still on a Wicked high.

Today was pretty uneventful at work. I almost got there on time this morning, but decided that I wasn’t sure if the place I need to go first was going to be open at 8 and decided an extra hour of sleep would probably be a good thing. Especially since I really didn’t sleep well last night. I could not fall asleep for some reason. Maybe I was just too excited. I seriously would have gone back and done it all again today; I know I’m weird.

So I still need to come up with all the details from yesterday, but it is too late tonight to be doing that. Maybe tomorrow. I’m not sure what is going on there since I never found a date for the dinner paddle. Maybe I can finally have my quiet evening at home.

The girls came over after Institute and helped eat some Cheesecake. Of course Maegan left some for me to finish off tomorrow.

Wicked was Awesome with Krystal

Wicked was Awesome with Krystal

Totally amazing afternoon and evening tonight. The show was great. I totally think that this was the most excited I had been for any of the times I’ve been to see Wicked. I would do it again tomorrow night in a heartbeat.

It’s so past my bedtime, so in the interest of keeping this short. We went to the LA Temple and took some pictures and walked around. Then we went to Cheesecake Beverly and then it was off to the show. The timing on things seemed to work out perfectly and I thought of other great things we could have done like taking a tour of Beverly Hills, doing a studio tour, etc. I didn’t get my Crate & Barrel in, so I’ll have to make a trip to one sometime soon – maybe Friday night.

Hopefully I can finish this post up “tomorrow” with some fuller information. For tonight, I think it will suffice to say that it was awesome. The show was great, the seats were great, the company was great, the timing was great. I even got Krystal to say she would make me a Galinda dress for me to wear. Maybe we can go around as the witches on halloween.

Preparing for Wicked

I think I’m going to make this one short and sweet so I can try and get rested for the day ahead tomorrow. I drove to Anaheim this morning. I didn’t get Fudds, nor did I get to go to Crate & Barrel as I was hoping. I didn’t get all the things done this afternoon/evening that I was hoping to. I did get an oil change and I must admit I love Jiffy Lube and having a almost 0 weight oil in my car. I was the last one in and the first one out. They told me 25-30 minutes and I didn’t even get to catch up on my tweets before they called me out.

I have no plan yet for tomorrow. I still need to figure out our afternoon in LA and I haven’t figured out what I’m wearing. I totally sound like such a girl! I think I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to wear for a week now and the only thing that has been decided is that I’m not dressing up as Glinda. I didn’t go shopping for anything Wicked themed, so maybe I’ll have to go another show without a plan. Or maybe I’ll just ditch work in the morning and take care of the things I have left to do – like getting a car wash.

Any ideas for something to do for an afternoon in LA/Hollywood? Any ideas on what I should wear since apparently getting dressed up as Glinda was shot down?

Me as Galinda?

Me as Galinda?

Krystal didn’t like the idea of me dressing up as Galinda. I wonder if she would be any happier with Glinda? Maybe we should dress her up as Glinda since she is the blonde after all.

Looks like I may have gotten my wish for some extra time tomorrow. Sister Dowden has postponed the temple night to Wednesday, so I won’t be able to go. Now maybe I will have some time to go shopping, work on home teaching assignments and eat some cheesecake!

Looks like I’m making another drive to Anaheim tomorrow to make something happen for a customer. I’m not sure if I can sneak Fudds into the equation or not.

That’s about all I have to report since it is 11:30 and I need to get to sleep. You didn’t get to read about my crazy day at work, our board meeting or my home teaching – sorry!

To San Francisco?

Today was a bit quieter than the past has been. Granted, that was probably only because our email was down for part of the day and we have yet to receive some of those messages.

We had a BBQ tonight at the Clegg’s. It was fun, but I spent all my time taking pictures and debating if I should go to San Francisco this weekend.

Since Connie & Michael are having their anniversary party this weekend, I thought that maybe it would be a good time to come up and see Brooke. Of course, we have a few things going on here as well that could use being dealt with, I was thinking a good weekend away could be good for me as well.

Sounds like I’m probably not going this weekend, but will soon. And I think I’ll have to go back in the spring to see Wicked!

I just learned that Krystal’s airing on the price is right is the week that I’m in Minneapolis! What are the chances of something like that happening? The other thing is that since she wasn’t going to be here, it probably wasn’t going to be a big deal, but now that she is staying, it probably will be a big deal and I’m going to be 2,000 miles away. I guess I’ll have the opportunity to watch it earlier though since I’ll be two hours ahead.

I was informed that Maegan is coming over for her birthday celebration after institute tomorrow night. I guess I have to bake a cake.

Did you like my random thoughts? I think my brain must have shut down or something. Maybe I got up too early this morning or maybe I’ve just gone into shock from actually making a real breakfast (french toast) this morning when it was still dark outside.

Saved by Wicked

Work was a bit crazy again today and I loved it. Things have been so busy lately it has been awesome. I had a good meeting this morning and continued the craziness. I finally got my email tamed near the end of the day. I use the word tamed because there is quite a bit that I still need to deal with, but I at least got everything marked as read and hopefully have dealt with all the urgent items.

As I was checking Facebook this afternoon I started talking with Krystal. Somehow or other we got to talking about Wicked along with me being killed for the pictures I had posted. Maybe I was just trying to stay out of one kind of trouble by getting into another. In any event, she sounded really excited and we are going next Wednesday. I guess that answers the question of if I’m going to go and see it again before it leaves the Pantages. I hope this means I will live at least until next Thursday.

I enjoyed a nice quiet evening at home. I talked with Geoff for a while before finishing the plans with Krystal and then finishing off dinner and watching RV. I wasn’t too impressed with RV and was hoping it was going to be funnier than it ended up being. It was decent (2/5), just not anything extra special.

Wicked is Leaving LA

From the Wicked News today:

TICK TOCK! THE CLOCK OF THE TIME DRAGON SAYS THAT
THIS IS THE FINAL SUMMER FOR WICKED IN LOS ANGELES!

Yes, Fellow Ozians, the Time Dragon has brought to our attention that this is the final summer to see WICKED at the Pantages Theatre before it flies off to the Orpheum Theatre in San Francisco. The Los Angeles production of WICKED will play its final performance on January 11, 2009, ending its record-breaking run at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. Upon closing, the production will have played 791 performances and 12 previews. The WICKED company will then travel to San Francisco beginning performances later that month at the Orpheum Theatre.

Producer Marc Platt states, “WICKED has been one of the biggest hits in Los Angeles theatre history and we are thrilled that theatergoers here have embraced the musical and welcomed us so heartily. Our run at the Pantages has been a joy for the entire company and will place WICKED alongside only two other shows in recent memory that have successfully called Los Angeles home for an extended stay – The Lion King and The Phantom of the Opera.”

Wicked

So I didn’t write yesterday because I didn’t get home until almost 2 this morning. I figured that was a good enough excuse to put it off until this evening. I went to Costco on the way to work and picked up a new Nikon Coolpix S700 digital camera. We had decided earlier in the week that the Sanyo digital cameras we got require a lot of work to get a good picture. I thought it could be worth a small investment in a little camera to hopefully get better pictures in those situations now. I haven’t really had much of an opportunity to try it out yet, but we did take a few pictures at Wicked.

WickedMaegan and I went to Wicked at the Pantages in Hollywood. The seats were amazing, Row L dead center. Traffic was horrendous, but the GPS nav was able to divert us around some of it. It also directed us to surface streets through downtown to Hollywood which I’m not exactly sure I agreed with because they were quite slow, but we got there and we made it on-time, so that is all that really matters. The show was great, even the third time seeing it. I wouldn’t mind going back and seeing it again! Maegan seemed to thoroughly enjoy the show although she seemed a little disappointed with how dirty LA is. I guess we now know why she has never been there before. All the characters were good. Megan Hilty was great as Glinda as always. Caissie Levy did good as Elphaba, but I think I liked the previous actresses I saw do the part better. Kristoffer Cusick did a good job at Fiyero as well, but the guy I saw from the tour wins hands down as he just fit the part so well.

We drove by the LA Temple on the way home and I finally got home just before 2. It was definitely a long day, but it was so much fun. We’re planning a trip to the Los Angeles Temple on March 1st if anyone is interested in joining us.

It was really hard to get myself out of bed this morning for the World Wide Leadership Training, but I did it nonetheless. I made it to the stake center with a few minutes to spare and discovered that they were having all sorts of technical difficulties. Sister Dowden tried to get me to go help, but I just didn’t want to get involved. They finally got the satellite feed going, but they were having problems playing back the recorded feed as they were trying to delay the broadcast an hour. We ended up just watching the second half and we will catch up on the first part later. It was all good, but it seems like the same old stuff. I guess that means we have more work to be done and need to continue to raise the bar to make better homes and wards.

After the broadcast I went out to breakfast with the Dowden’s and then went to work for a few hours. I got things together for the board meeting, took care of some emails and then came home. I was debating about going for a bikeride or taking a nap. I was planning on getting through the mail and receipts. I accomplished none of the above and I’m not really sure why. I did get pictures posted and started catching up on some of the news.

I found out that my Sunday School teachers are leaving me left and right tonight. Not only am I loosing Stephanie in two months, but Marissa and Kyle are leaving. Stephanie, the amazing Stephanie, is stepping in for Marissa tomorrow, so I’m going to owe her something big that is yet to be determined. Here is one more thing I was going to do today that we can mark off as not getting done. That would be getting to bed early, so I’m going to work on finishing this up and trying to get to sleep before 11.

Garmin Nuvi 680

Again I’m up too late and up to no good. Today went fairly well at the office, no real complaints to lodge. Jim and I went and home taught Amy this evening which went well and then I went to Costco. I had been thinking about getting a GPS on and off for some time now and for some reason woke up this morning determined to get one. I got the Garmin Nuvi 680 and activated the MSN Direct service so i can get traffic updates on it, which I believe will be my primary purpose in having it. I guess I’ll try it forĀ  a while and see if it is actually useful and if it seems there are any features that I am missing and need to upgrade to another unit for. That’s why I love Costco!

And Mr. Bouse hooked me up with some sweet seats for Wicked this weekend.

Well, I’m off to bed and I certainly didn’t read my five pages for the Hinckley Challenge today, but I worked on magnifying one of my callings! I think that’s the real Hinckley challenge – to just be amazing at our callings. I have a long way to go.
